It’s either at least 2, possibly 3 and one a Masters probably from Oxbridge, or left school with one GCSE in home economics......

I have no degree, a clutch of GCSEs, a BTEC in Music and here I am 21 odd years later and I'm a manager in an offshore law firm.

Kind of like Richard Branson on not quite as rich Grin

I have a BA, MA and MSc. And a host of post grad diplomas. I think people change jobs/careers so you end up doing more degrees qualifications. I finished my MSc last year but may look to do an MBA or PhD in the next few years. I also think people also have an interest in continuous improvement and keeping skills up. It also depends on age I did my MA in my late 20s and I'm now in my early 40s.

I have 12 degrees, ok only one recognised but the other 11 should be. Such as when my elbow is cold it must be a cold temperature outside! #logic

Until this thread I'd never thought about the number of posters here having more than one degree. I really haven't been aware of people letting everyone know how many degrees they've got unless it's relevant to the question.

Most of my colleagues have two degrees (Bachelor and Masters) because that's part of being qualified in my profession. But as others have said, it's an age thing. I'm on my 50s and relatively few of my friends have 2 degrees. However most of my friends children who went to uni stayed on to do a Masters.

I have 4, one degree, 2 masters and a ph.D. Also AAA gold awards in my teens, but not so fast now. But I'm beautiful so no one believes it anyway. Hey ho

polarpig · 06/04/2019 03:47

I left school with one GCSE and have two degrees They aren't worth the paper they are written on because I don't use them.

WhentheRabbitsWentWild · 06/04/2019 05:22

lolll

I don't have none OP Grin

FenellaMaxwell · 06/04/2019 05:24

I only have one! It’s a joint honours degree though.

AlphaSigma · 06/04/2019 05:30

None for me and a very basic high school education.

TanteRose · 06/04/2019 06:09

I'm old and I've got just the one (dual honors) and a Desmond at that (how have I never heard of these nicknames for degrees before?!)
I work at a research institute (not as a researcher tho) so everyone has at least two and loads with PhDs - I love saying that I've only got an undergrad degree and that it's served me fine for what I've done since graduating 28 years ago Grin

Bowchicawowow · 06/04/2019 06:20

I have two and a post grad qualification which is the equivalent of a masters, so arguably three. I don’t mention them much and to be honest, most people assume I am thick as mince because of my accent.

LegoCake · 06/04/2019 06:25

None here but I'm working on it (half way through a BSc). I would love to go on to do a msc but we shall see.

AfterTrentham · 06/04/2019 07:57

I've got three - one from Oxford, one from one of the smaller and more niche bits of the University of London, and a Masters from the University of Birmingham. I also have a postgraduate qualification which enables me to do the job I do, which took 3 years of study.

I never upgraded my BA from Oxford to an MA though. I just never got round to filling out the form. Maybe I should 😂

ChopinIn10Minuets · 06/04/2019 08:04

I've heard of the Desmond, the Douglas and the Geoff, but no idea what the nickname is for a 2:1.

EvaHarknessRose · 06/04/2019 08:07

I have two and a postgrad 👩‍🎓

Piggywaspushed · 06/04/2019 08:14

One of my lecturers told me the 'exceptional people' get firsts and thirds and the ordinary wokaday folk gets 2:1s. I won't say what he said about Desmonds.

I got a 2:1 so now feel I disappointed him, and myself, with my ordinariness. My friend who got a first disproved his rule because she was a stay up all night grafter and he claimed it was lazily brilliant types who got Firsts. Teachers tend to have MAs these days (or did in the noughties : it seems to ahve waned again) but I am not sure what it achieves. I don't have one so have missed shortlisitng for many jobs - because of course a random MEd is what would make me good at the role Hmm

My DH got a Douglas : it was definitely a drinking degree and a not understanding degree level maths degree I would not call him exceptional but he is very good at Countdown...

TanteRose · 06/04/2019 08:14

a 2:1 is an Attila, Don or Trevor apparently ConfusedGrin

androbbob · 06/04/2019 08:15

I have two - a BSc joint honours and a Desmond, and then an MBA from an American university which I studied for here for free '- the lecturers flew over to teach us each unit for 6 weeks and then the next tutor came over. The funding was free as I live in a 'deprived' area and a local uni secured European funding for it. I am also professionally qualified as a chartered engineer.

Piggywaspushed · 06/04/2019 08:16

Not sure there ever was a nickname for a 2:1.

My - very clever university lecturer- DF has an ordinary degree in Geology Shock. He has no PG degrees or qulaifications and is an eminent scholar in advertising and marketing. I've never understood it either.

ABoozedMoose · 06/04/2019 08:24

Why does it matter what a bunch of anonymous people on the internet have?

I always assume that people with multiple degrees got them while in prison...

Patroclus · 06/04/2019 08:32

And always worked 'in the city for a year'.

Patroclus · 06/04/2019 08:37

And its because people are full of shit.

IJustLostTheGame · 06/04/2019 08:42

I've only got the one.
I've got four grade 8s though and a diploma, can I stay on mumsnet?

Runmybathforme · 06/04/2019 08:43

Well, I only have one, and now I feel like shit. ( creeps out of the room in shame ).
