Why does nobody on Mumsnet ever have one degree?

It’s either at least 2, possibly 3 and one a Masters probably from Oxbridge, or left school with one GCSE in home economics......

I’ve only got O Levels. Oh, and a couple of City & Guilds qualifications.

Bittern11 · 05/04/2019 22:49

I’ve got two... but neither from Oxbridge...

TheCrowFromBelow · 05/04/2019 22:49

I’m here with my one degree!
2:1 in case you’re interested.
Can’t type for toffee though, and that might be handier TBF.

I have two - one I did straight after A levels, and an OU degree I did when I was a (by necessity not choice) SAHM to help combat my depression. Neither related to the job I now do, which I have a diploma for.

bourbonbiscuittin · 05/04/2019 22:50

I have cycling proficiency and brownie hostess badge Grin

Thankssomuch · 05/04/2019 22:51

Interestingly most people posting have not answered the question but instead just said what their qualifications are. I don’t know why people on Mumsnet have more than one degree.
I’ve got a BA (Hons) and M.ed 😀

Awrite · 05/04/2019 22:51

I opened this thread to post that I only have one but then I realised that I have two. Such a long time ago. And, I don't think I've ever posted about them on here. Or, indeed, anywhere.

elephantoverthehill · 05/04/2019 22:51

I think it depends on your subject. I was talking to Ds1 about this the other night. He has a BEng, an MEng is almost expected before joining the job market in that field. I have a BEd, if any teacher immediately took an MEd without passing their NQT year it would be a bit odd imo.

PickAChew · 05/04/2019 22:52

Nowt like a shit load of hyperbole to round off a Friday night.

colehawlins · 05/04/2019 22:52

Ive a BA and MA.

It makes sense women on mumsnet would be educated though.

Good point, and two degrees is fairly normal really. It's not like having six.

Maybe it's a generational thing? Way back when only a small percentage of the population went into university at all, and one degree was plenty for most people's purposes.

JustAWaferThinMint · 05/04/2019 22:52

I only have the one. Admittedly, it took 5 years to achieve (standard duration). I also have both O levels and GCSEs though.

I think DH has 4 degrees last time I counted.

InternationalSchool · 05/04/2019 22:53

I have 1 Bachelors and 2 Masters! Truly!

It’s because I changed my field slightly so did the second Masters to specialise.

It’s not that odd if you think about the circumstances of the poster cohort.

WoollyMummoth · 05/04/2019 22:53

I’ve one and a bit. Degree and PGCE.

PlasticPatty · 05/04/2019 22:54

I have a nice degree and a PGCE.
So what?

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 05/04/2019 22:54

I have one usual and one masters in my specialist area-though that was a mature student many many years later-and was SO fucking hard to get down to whilst holding down a job and a premie baby!
I do also have my gold swimming badge and was a queens guide
No idea why it seems that MN is awash with degrees but suspect it is the demographic it works within.

I'm a baby boomer that left school at 16 but did very well in the world of work, without one. I'm not going to be popular

catinboots99 · 05/04/2019 22:56

I've got two and a Level 2 Award in Cross-cut Timber Using a Chainsaw.

That the latter impresses propel the most.

Flowersmakemyday · 05/04/2019 22:56

For people that have a B/M degree how do you then finance further degrees? Is it all self funded?

TheHobbitMum · 05/04/2019 22:57

I have no degree at all, not even one Grin

catinboots99 · 05/04/2019 22:57

That the latter impresses propel the most.

The latter impresses people the most.

tabulahrasa · 05/04/2019 22:57

I’ve only the one... and I left school at 15 with 1 GCSE, ach ok, it was 16 and 3 standard grades...

Still do I get bingo? Or do I need the extra degree? It’s in 3 combined subjects if that makes any difference?...

elephantoverthehill · 05/04/2019 22:57

Little DS1 is not going to have to a PhD as well is he? Shock

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 05/04/2019 22:59

@Flowersmakemyday my MSc was funded through an education consortium (healthcare related)

Deadringer · 05/04/2019 23:00

I don't even have one. In fact I failed my leaving.Sad (That will only make sense to Irish mumsneters). I am not thick though I promise.
