Meghan's letter to her dad in The Sunday Fail

Shock really? Is this for real? She sent her dad a letter last August and he said she hasn't tried to contact her. He just gave the letter to the tabloids. If this is real he hasn't told the truth about anything.

Grab the popcorn.

I do think the best route would have been complete and utter dignified silence.

Absolutely.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 11/02/2019 09:59

Can't find it - checked "Punch", too. Very frustrating!

Loads of stuff about the "paedophile prince" etc though.

Here's the Pippa story for all to see in your favourite paper. But Pippa's not royal.

SamanthaBrique · 11/02/2019 10:12

I remember a satirical magazine - probably Private Eye - did a spoof photo, with a string of sausages in place of the royal willie!

I saw the original photo. A whole string was unnecessary, one chipolata would've done...

Puzzledandpissedoff · 11/02/2019 10:15

anyone with a vague knowledge of current affairs could tell you that being a royal is not all tiaras and applause

You're right of course, but the early, heady stages of relationships don't tend to lend themselves to sensible reflection - and whirlwind Hollywood romances, while okay for Hollywood where everything seems instantly disposable, don't always work in a more structured environment

ScrumpyCrack · 11/02/2019 10:19

I think there’s a huge difference between private photos and conversations being leaked and this...

m.youtube.com/watch?v=pFKleWOhehs

It’s always so silly when people compare the two.

SheStoopsToConker · 11/02/2019 10:26

Meghan's grilling video and Kate modelling in her underwear are hardly comparable in terms of scandal to the more unsavoury allegations about Andrew and his paedophile friend...

ScrumpyCrack · 11/02/2019 10:31

Yes, one is clearly a fan of the limelight and is hardly the shy and retiring ‘just wants to live a quiet life with her husband’ wallflower posters on here would have you believe, the others are private and leaked conversations/photos. There is no comparison.

SheStoopsToConker · 11/02/2019 10:41

Um, you do know what the allegations against Andrew are, don't you? Hmm

GoFiguire · 11/02/2019 10:53

No, please tell us all the Andrew allegations.

SaturdayNext · 11/02/2019 10:53

I’m not sure who started this again, but I’m actually not convinced it was her dad - he’s too unsophisticated to plant a story so he could release that letter, he’d just sell the letter from the get-go.

If there is one thing the last year has demonstrated, it is that the Markle family are certainly not unsophisticated in terms of getting themselves into the papers. And, as pointed out, he may well have sold the letter as soon as he received it and the Mail may well have chosen to sit on it till it decided on the best moment to run it. With MM being in the news a lot due to her pregnancy but a couple of months off giving birth, it's easy to see why they would have chosen now as a good time.

ScrumpyCrack · 11/02/2019 10:53

Um, what relevance does it have to MM sending a letter to her father? Hmm

SaturdayNext · 11/02/2019 10:54

No, please tell us all the Andrew allegations.

No, please don't. There's no need for yet more gratuitous muckracking.

SaturdayNext · 11/02/2019 10:54

Muckraking, not muckracking.

PineappleFwitters · 11/02/2019 10:56

@ScrumpyCrack What relevance does that video you posted have to it? Doesn't the letter Meghan sent to her father fall under your definition of private or leaked communications?

ScrumpyCrack · 11/02/2019 11:01

MN posters: Poor MM, she’s done nothing to deserve this press attention. Her father is a narcissist and she’s a delicate wallflower.

MM: watch me grill!

Relevance = she’s clearly a fan of the attention and so it comes as no surprise that she’s still getting it, in whatever form. As I said earlier, the letter looks like it was written with publication in mind and both her and her dad are as bad as each other.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 11/02/2019 11:12

MM: watch me grill!

Err, yes - I thought of that

I know it's not really what the thread's about, but writhing around for a lad's mag did seem a bit odd, coming from a self-avowed "feminist" d Hmm

What on earth is that video?! Maybe she’d run out of cash though? Lots of royals have had previous careers in modelling etc (one of the Scandinavian princesses?)

Cerseirys · 11/02/2019 11:17

Meh, she was a jobbing actress and probably needed the money. Most of them do it at one point or another and it dates from before she even met Harry.

Some posters on this thread go on like it's the 19th century and "actress" was thought of as a scandalous profession!

Notmyrealname855 · 11/02/2019 11:19

To be honest though, that’s really not a great video Blush Think I’d rather downsize than get money for that, but each to their own

Puzzledandpissedoff · 11/02/2019 11:25

Maybe she’d run out of cash though?

If so she must have been getting through a lot of it - considering she'd been in Suits for a couple of years when the ad was made

bringing up some random little acting promo video she did six years ago is just weird

It might be, yes, if not for the endless references she makes to female empowerment and feminism. Sorry, but when she claims to back such causes it's not surprising when the obvious hypocrisy's pointed out ... unwelcome perhaps, but hardly weird

MsLucyLastic · 11/02/2019 11:27

I really don't get the dislike for MM.

So she wrote a letter to her dad and maybe knew it would be published so chose her wording, and the handwritten medium, with that in mind.

I don't blame her for that at all. Instead, I find it massively sad that she has has to anticipate her own father flogging her private communication to him. What loving father does that?

MM's mother seems to be dignified and a real support to Meghan. TM and Samantha seem to be annoyed that they haven't directly benefited from MM now being royal, as if they feel they are entitled to a share of the "spoils". They are tacky and crass.

I don't blame MM for wanting to set the record straight, via her friends, as a response to allegations TM and Samantha have made. It must be so upsetting to be unfairly demonized.

I just hope that MM feels better, that the truth is now plain to see, and can put the whole thing behind her.

I wish the public would support her. She has done nothing majorly wrong, and has seemed to be committed to her new role.

isitspringyet · 11/02/2019 11:30

Such a shame the relationship has soured.. she appeared to idolise him referencing him positively in the Elle interview and regularly on her website social media thing

Cerseirys · 11/02/2019 11:33

Yes but actors always do that to project an image. I expect she was embellishing the truth but she wasn't to know that she'd meet Harry one day and her entire social media activity would come under such scrutiny.
