Meghan's letter to her dad in The Sunday Fail

IdaBWells · 10/02/2019 06:06

Shock really? Is this for real? She sent her dad a letter last August and he said she hasn't tried to contact her. He just gave the letter to the tabloids. If this is real he hasn't told the truth about anything.

Grab the popcorn.

Queenoftheandals, I got the full picture eek....

SamanthaBrique · 10/02/2019 22:49

Oh yes, Andrew's alleged wrongdoings and dodgy friendships @MissMaisel, far more sinister than anything the Markles have done. If there's anything the Queen should be up in arms about it's that.

QueenOfTheAndals · 10/02/2019 22:50

I should probably add that the link I posted upthread is NOT to a full frontal of Andrew but just an image the front page of The Sun when they covered the story.

SouthWestmom · 10/02/2019 22:55

Oh why did I google

Puzzledandpissedoff · 10/02/2019 22:58

It's all a horrible mess

Ain't that the truth Sad I'm not the biggest Meghan fan, but whatever the rights and wrongs of those involved, absolutely nobody deserves people like this

As I've said so often I hope they'll have a long a happy marriage, but given the family problems (and yes, that's on both sides) I just wish they'd waited a little longer or spent more time together before tying the knot

One thing's for sure though - if it does all fall apart, the RF will airbrush Meghan out so fast our heads will spin

certainlymerry · 10/02/2019 23:12

Desperately trying to find that photo if Andrew now! No success...
Found some others I wasn’t expecting though!

JonestheMail · 10/02/2019 23:13

It's all pretty distasteful really. NC is definitely the way to go.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 10/02/2019 23:14

How the press and her family are behaving is despicable

Kate did not receive this amount of vitriol she is heavily pregnant and some areas of the press can do nothing but attack or try to shame her

Puzzledandpissedoff · 10/02/2019 23:27

I agree, Enthusiasm - though to be fair, the behaviour really is a bit of a gift to the tabloid rags, just as that of some RF members has been

And while Kate got her share, at least she didn't seem to have quite this sort of background (except for Uncle Gary, whose head was no doubt firmly sat upon by the redoubtable Carole)

None of that makes any of it Meghan's fault of course; it's just that the constant seediness does get a bit wearing

areyoubeingserviced · 10/02/2019 23:28

Thomas Markle is a piece of shit.
Vile, egotistical and selfish
She needs to cut him off

twattymctwatterson · 10/02/2019 23:32

There are a couple of posters who always absolutely throth over in their hatred on MM threads. One in particular is recognisable even after a name change. Their agenda is so transparent.

Coffeebean76 · 10/02/2019 23:53

Meghan has been thrown into the deep end so quickly. The British press (Daily Mail) are pretty unforgiving. I think she was a bit starry eyed and naive and I don't think Harry prepared her enough.

I hope things calm down so she can have her baby in peace and retreat for a while from public life to focus on normal family life. I'd be an absolute wreck if I was being scrutinised this in the press.

Daisypie · 11/02/2019 06:06

That photo of Charles groping Diana is
Quite awful.

SaturdayNext · 11/02/2019 08:01

It’s strange that all that not one detrimental word has been written about Meghans mother . If rascism was the real reason anyone had any reservations about Meghan, you’d think her mother would have been even more of a target.

Her mother keeps herself firmly out of the limelight and hasn't had the temerity to marry a member of the Royal Family. Despite that, unfortunately it's not true say that nothing detrimental has been written about her.

SaturdayNext · 11/02/2019 08:13

There are multiple photos of Meghan with her half-sister

No, it's just the same three or four constantly being recycled. It proves nothing. You could dig out three or four photos over the years of me with my cousins, it doesn't mean we were constantly in each other's company.

Notmyrealname855 · 11/02/2019 08:33

The allegations around Andrew are so bad... surprised that was never more of a priority to deal with him / the allegations.

The Markle family seem nuts, and NC is so important. It feels like Harry (let’s not forget him!) and Meghan have - instead of going NC - been using a PR firm. Maybe H feels very protective and guilty for not telling M the truth of what it’s like in the public eye so much, I don’t know. Anyway their PR guys have gone OTT, on two points.

Firstly on the “five friends” piece. It is very rare for a royal to speak to the press through their friends (I can’t remember other examples). There’s no way that story didn’t go to press without H and M knowing/ authorising. But what’s the point PR guys? Any crazies who already don’t like H and M wouldn’t be convinced, and it was saccharine sweet and weirdly scripted - sounded like a Hallmark film character. But maybe H and M are desperate to stop the meanness around her (fine), but this was ineffective and gave more material to the haters.

Secondly, more stories about H and M and her dad. Where did this story come from? Her dad hasnt been in the press for months, this is like an old story line being rehashed. I’m not sure who started this again, but I’m actually not convinced it was her dad - he’s too unsophisticated to plant a story so he could release that letter, he’d just sell the letter from the get-go.

Actually a third bad move by PR (?). I saw that article in the Mail about doxxing those weirdos who have blogs that are anti H and M. If this was by the PR/ Palace, it was such a poor idea. Again, engaging with crazies. And for what? It didn’t win over any new people. It could have gone very very wrong (we don’t know the bloggers’ mental health state, esp if they’re writing what they were). Most importantly it was a sledgehammer approach - why not just highlight the blogs to show examples of what shite they were posting, not the bloggers’ names? It looked like Royals attacking individuals (however crazy), even ones abroad, even against freedom of speech (again, however crazy the speech). You do not win when you fight crazy. This is why the Royals used to say “never complain, never explain” - much better to have a dignified, distant approach.

PR are too keen to use stories to retaliate - it does not work with narc families, for crazies, or with anyone in the public who already doesn’t like you.

Basically it’s a mess but with their endless cash the Palace always has the upper hand - and they need to deal with this properly.

The contrast with the Middletons is interesting exactly because they do have black sheep and scandal. And so few stories are actually written on them - because they haven’t used outside PR. There’s just less content to go on, because less content put out there.

Anyway, the whole thing is giving me Royal fatigue. Though makes W and K seem less boring and more easy to read about, as it’s not constant calamity.

VanillaSugarr · 11/02/2019 08:37

And so few stories are actually written on them - because they haven’t used outside PR.

I think the Middletons do use outside PR - just a better agency who can squash more stories. I suspect they were hired after Pippa was photographed in Paris with a guy and a gun in the car.

Notmyrealname855 · 11/02/2019 08:50

Pippa, Paris and a gun? Well then yes they must be good PR!!!! Wow!

PenguinFeathers · 11/02/2019 08:54

The whole thing is just a debacle at this point. I think Harry made a mistake when he said in that interview something along the lines of the Royal Family being the family she never had. That has got to hurt the father, who by all accounts was quite close to Meghan before she met Harry.

I can understand why she is furious with them all. They have done their best to publicly humiliate her. I do think that the letter was written with the knowledge that one day it would become public. Why else put numbers on every page? It ensures every page is included and unedited. It carefully and concisely sets out her position. I think the 'friends' article was a little bit of bait to flush the letter out and change the public narrative.

I wonder if she has some romantic notion that one day her letters will become historical artefacts. The handwriting attests to this - very similar to the colourful script of kings and queens of the past. You can almost see a copy of it preserved one day in the National Archive.

I do think the best route would have been complete and utter dignified silence.

Meghan has been thrown into the deep end so quickly

Exactly - which is why I said it's a pity the couple spent so little time together before marriage. Okay so Meghan might still have wanted the glitz of it all, but at least she'd have had a better idea of what she was taking on

I'm just glad for her that her ex husband has kept schtum so far, though whether that will continue is anyone's guess

Daisypie · 11/02/2019 09:35

Yes she was thrown into the deep end but anyone with a vague knowledge of current affairs could tell you that being a royal is not all tiaras and applause. Half an hour on google (or a conversation with Harry) could have shown her how relentless the press would be and that she would never have a right of reply.
The ex husband does come out of it well so far.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 11/02/2019 09:47

No it was Andrew and I remember seeing the shots back in the 90s when I lived in Australia. Perhaps they weren't published in the U.K.

I remember a satirical magazine - probably Private Eye - did a spoof photo, with a string of sausages in place of the royal willie!
