Please help me (so hungover)

Work Christmas lunch yesterday. Ended up a highly boozy affair. Got home about 1am. Threw up (tidily). Threw up again this morning and now I can’t get out of bed. Every time I sit or stand I want to be sick. My head is splitting.

I have two under-fours. This is my first night out in a long long time. DH took them out for Christmassy things this morning and I am gutted that I couldn’t be there. I just couldn’t. They are heading back now and I need to get up and help.

Please help. Someone out there must have a hangover cure.

Up until recently I would have said Lucozade but now they've added all those disgusting chemicals it will most likely make you feel worse. Sorry OP no help at all. How about Alka Seltza?

Bubblysqueak · 22/12/2018 13:03

Definitely full fat coke and a McDonald's (not forgetting paracetamol and ibuprofen!)

Glitteryfrog · 22/12/2018 13:04

Get them.to bring a cold can of coke and some crisps home with them.

Nee naw nee naw the fun police have arrived above I see.

Maccys usually sort out a hangover for me, quarter pounder with cheese and large fries. Full fat coke as well.

Theunsungsong · 22/12/2018 13:05

Your DH sounds like a keeper! If he'd followed mn usual advice he'd have the children sitting outside the bedroom playing with their noisiest toys.

Lucozade used to be good for hangovers, but then they changed it.

hiphopapotamuses · 22/12/2018 13:06

Full sugar coke or Fanta, something carby to eat, a shower, clean pjs and sit in front of the telly. Then pop off to have a little sleep and you'll wake up as good as new.

ScreamingValenta · 22/12/2018 13:06

If you have anything with ginger in, that really helps.

A hot curry sorts me out, if it's an option.

WhoTookTheChristmasCookie · 22/12/2018 13:06

If you can avoid painkillers, I would. Ibuprofen on an already dicky stomach will make you feel worse and paracetamol can really wreak havoc on your liver if your not careful.
If you can't avoid them, then drink lots of water and wait 6 hours between doses instead of 4.

The headache is partly down to dehydration so lots of fluids, water mainly but a full sugar coke won't hurt.
For me, I find salty foods help. So salt and vinegar crisps or just ready salted. Twiglets are great for a hangover - as is Marmite on toast!
I stick to savoury because that's what I crave when hungover but listen to your body.

My cure (it sounds mental but don't knock it until you've tried it!) is to drink a cup of oxo made with one red cube and a couple of packets of ready salted crisps - give it 20 minutes and you'll start feeling human again.
No one believes me when I say oxo but when me and my colleague were hungover after the Christmas party I told her to try it - she was shocked that she actually felt better!

Hope you had a fab night! You've only got a few more hours to get through. Then the kids will be in bed, you can have a hot bath and crawl into bed.
It'll all be over tomorrow Xmas GrinThanks

themoomoo · 22/12/2018 13:07

Positive thinking. You'd feel a lot worse if you hadn't puked up a load of the alcohol yesterday.
Sip plenty of fluids and eat carbs.
Are the kids old enough to appreciate a snuggling under a blanket watching a film with you day?

Almostthere15 · 22/12/2018 13:07

Oh it's the worst isn't it. Some painkillers with water and then flat coke if you can with ready salted crisps. Hop in the shower while you wait for I'd do take effect. It'll give you enough time to look enthusiastic at the little ones while they tell you what they did.

Then I'd do Christmas craft for s bit (like play doh but just add glitter) followed by a Christmas film on the sofa. A mcds for tea followed by an early night!

You can get through it, make sure you drink loads

Flooffloof · 22/12/2018 13:08

Don't drink. Or drink and know your limits, extremely irresponsible of you as you have 2 young children

Oh dear, do you have a hangover too?
Cos nobody ever in the world has small children and sometimes gets hammered. Sheesh I did it a few times, but I didn't have a husband to help.
OP flat coke and a McDonald's meal. Usually works for me.

beela · 22/12/2018 13:08

I feel your pain op. I rarely drink enough for a hangover but I managed a spectacular one a few weeks ago. Dry cream crackers were all I could manage. Never again.

Vivaldi1678 · 22/12/2018 13:09

Sorry to go against the grain but I would recommend a Bloody Mary. Just one shot of alcohol, no more, will be the quickest and most effective cure.

Kernowgal · 22/12/2018 13:09

Chicken noodle soup is my hangover cure, with some marmite toast to dip in it. I can't do greasy food when I'm hanging, so prefer something clean tasting, as it were. Lots of fruit, maybe some steamed veg. Curry or pizza are amazing.

Orangina is a good alternative to coke, but it can't be the diet stuff. Tea also good.

kalinkafoxtrot45 · 22/12/2018 13:09

Get some water, sugar and salt into your system.
I find a cold pillow really helps too, stick one outside for a bit and then pop it under your head.
Long shower and hair wash, and painkillers after you’ve eaten.
Ignore the sanctimony squad on here, the damage is already done and hopefully you’ll feel better before too long.

Mistlewoeandwhine · 22/12/2018 13:10

Yes to McDonalds and lots of sugary drinks. A milkshake might be nice. Once you are rehydrated, have a warm bath.

Thisnamechanger · 22/12/2018 13:11

Coffee, shower, shag then eggs and a bloody Grin

Me and DP are both still in bed suffering!

MissyCooper · 22/12/2018 13:11

McDs for tea. That is happening.

WhoTookTheChristmasCookie · 22/12/2018 13:11

@Vivaldi1678 doesn't hair of the dog just postpone the hangover?
I've only tried it the once and felt brand new for about an hour, before the hangover came back with an absolute vengeance Envy

frippit · 22/12/2018 13:12

Water, painkillers, indigestion tablet then coffee and a bacon butty after a shower. Keep sipping water to cure dehydration headache, good luck.

MissyCooper · 22/12/2018 13:12

Two under fours = no daytime bonking any more. I don’t think DH would fancy it anyway. I’m gross

PollyFlinderz · 22/12/2018 13:13

Op, can your husband go and buy Oral rehydration salts? The kind people use when they have a tummy bug?

itwaseverthus · 22/12/2018 13:13

Stir a teaspoon of sugar into a full fat coke, seems to stop the sickness. A banana for potassium, something greasy like a burger and chips. I agree with the pp, a bonk is helpful for some bizarre reason.
