Gatwick has suspended all flights due to two zones in their airspace. They are now having to find somewhere for numerous planes to land if you want to watch on the app. I'm watching an Easyjet Madrid to Gatwick one. Thought it might land at EMA but it's still going.

It's a shame they can't put up a helicopter with heat seeking cameras, at least if the drone is being operated from nearby.

BriocheBriocheBrioche · 20/12/2018 23:45

This is so intriguing, I’m not going to be able to sleep tonight!!!

brizzledrizzle · 20/12/2018 23:50

It's more worrying than intriguing I think.

Or just moving to park?

italiancortado · 20/12/2018 23:56

It wouldn’t be moving to park, everything in the ground has been parked for absolutely hours. It taxied out and back to the same spot.

CormoranStrike · 20/12/2018 23:59

It’s very quiet at Heathrow according to FR

BriocheBriocheBrioche · 21/12/2018 00:00

Absolutely Brizzle, very worrying. I’m due into Luton on Sunday and feel quite anxious about it.

italiancortado · 21/12/2018 00:01

That’s normal for Heathrow at this time

CormoranStrike · 21/12/2018 00:07

Thanks Italian

Longdistance · 21/12/2018 00:11

Flights will start up again at 5am for LHR.

Flights in and out of LTN still going as we speak nearly over my head 🤔

LGW, dead as s dodo. Shame it doesn’t indicate the drone —to shoot the fucker and it’s owner out of the sky—

KenAdams · 21/12/2018 06:21

Some flights are resuming today

OP posts:
brizzledrizzle · 21/12/2018 06:35

Lets hope they get off successfully. I feel sorry for people who are nervous flyers on those planes.

MulticolourMophead · 21/12/2018 08:00

I've just seen a flight landing into Gatwick, so fingers crossed for everyone.

tinseltitties · 21/12/2018 17:15

Closed again

Last outbound aircraft over 15 mins ago, over 15 holding

tinseltitties · 21/12/2018 17:15

Over 15 inbounds that is

KenAdams · 21/12/2018 17:38

I can't believe this. Again!

Poor WB700 so many circles!

shortgreengiraffe · 21/12/2018 17:56

WB700 looks to be heading back?

KenAdams · 21/12/2018 18:02

Yes - on its way to Brussels again!

OP posts:
PerkingFaintly · 21/12/2018 18:11

Poor things. At least from Brussels they can just be put on Eurostar.

KenAdams · 21/12/2018 18:28

An Easyjet flight has just taken off

OP posts:
BeardedMum · 21/12/2018 18:33

I am at Heathrow and its business as usual here.

shortgreengiraffe · 21/12/2018 18:37

Apparently pilots need to be trained to land at each individual airport. If no training they can only land there in an emergency. Airport being closed isn't an emergency if they have enough fuel to get either home or to another further away airport which they are trained in.

italiancortado · 21/12/2018 18:53

Yeah that's not a thing.

There are some airports, London City for example, which require steep approach training.

italiancortado · 21/12/2018 18:55

The Brussels flight will return to base as it's the best place to have the crew, aircraft and passengers given the situation. Divert space is minimal now and there is no point having a crew out of house at Luton or similar, having to send new crew, bus the pax etc. Often return to base is the best operational choice.
