Gatwick has suspended all flights due to two zones in their airspace. They are now having to find somewhere for numerous planes to land if you want to watch on the app. I'm watching an Easyjet Madrid to Gatwick one. Thought it might land at EMA but it's still going.

Ukraine I meant Smile

brizzledrizzle · 20/12/2018 01:00

I thought you might but then saw the other one looping back

PerkingFaintly · 20/12/2018 01:02

Hmm. Haven't followed drone politics recently, but last time I noticed the manufacturers/sellers were successfully lobbying for drones not to be registered and licensed like cars "because it would stifle a profitable new industry."

I wonder what impact a Very Fucking Expensive incident like this, impacting an industry plentifully supplied with its own lobbyists, will have on drone regulation?

I like your technical term Grin
I guess it depends on if it is idiots or sabotage by somebody more organised (also idiots) and if they try another airport next.

Pavlova31 · 20/12/2018 01:04

TUI from FUE about to land at Manchester now.

brizzledrizzle · 20/12/2018 01:05

Yeah, that TUI has got to be coming in here.

brizzledrizzle · 20/12/2018 01:05

or somewhere close by anyway.

brizzledrizzle · 20/12/2018 01:07

There's one from Fuerteventura scheduled to go in to Manchester about now, the other is coming into Bristol I believe.

italiancortado · 20/12/2018 01:10

Manchester has accepted the flight from FUE, but Bristol must have either accepted just after, or they may have declared a pan pan emergency and needed down faster.

DoNotTouchTheTree · 20/12/2018 01:10

This is so interesting! I should be asleep, instead I'm watching that Fuerteventura-LGW approaching Bristol.

TUI from FUE about to land at Manchester now.

That flight was for MAN anyway.

brizzledrizzle · 20/12/2018 01:11

Looks like it's heading for Cardiff not Bristol. Guess now the tolls are off the bridge they can afford it Grin

brizzledrizzle · 20/12/2018 01:12

Spoke to soon, it's landed here.

Pavlova31 · 20/12/2018 01:22

Thanks for correcting me !

brizzledrizzle · 20/12/2018 01:31

I was just watching it because I thought it might fly over my house :-)

SoleBizzz · 20/12/2018 02:30

No, just silver here.

MulticolourMophead · 20/12/2018 03:17

The BBC are now reporting this. Whoever was flying the drones is a moron. Be interested in any justification they try to make if ever identified.

Ragh · 20/12/2018 04:37

Thanks for this - missed most of the action but have been using playback to go through the scheduled landings to find out where they ended up. Last flight to actually land at LGW was st 21:01 from Naples, everything else has been diverted without the airport updated.

There's obviously still some issues as the Buenos Aires flight is heading to CDG by the looks of things, Punta Cana to BHX and Bridgetown maybe LHR

brizzledrizzle · 20/12/2018 05:00

It's closed again now as a drone was seen sometime before five when it was due to reopen.

KenAdams · 20/12/2018 07:02

Airspace around both Gatwick and Heathrow looked strangely quiet at around 1am. Apparently more drones were spotted just before 4am leading to a longer shut down. I'm hearing that LGW will remain shut until at least 10am although those reports are unconfirmed at moment. Really hope everyone manages to get home before Christmas.

I am also a Gold member - definitely worth the subscription.

Meanwhile on twitter people complaining (like this Dr.) are getting short shrift:

'led to havoc for thousands of travellers. I have a baby who is fed up/crying, re-routed to East Midlands, on coach that will get to Gatwick at 5 am instead of 950pm previous day! Hope @ThomasCookUK cares enough 2 compensate fairly'

I pity the people having to sort out all the diverts, they've just sent one into Cardiff - fitting them all in somewhere must be a logistical nightmare especially with Heathrow obviously being very busy as ever.

Lokisglowstickofdestiny · 20/12/2018 07:35

I understand it's inconvenient but what would you rather do, sit on a coach for a few hours or die in a plane crash? I assume they believe there is a serious risk with these drones. Ironically there is a shop in one of the Gatwick terminals that sells drones.
Hopefully they will ban the things or at least put a strict licensing regime in place so that they can only be used for legitimate business purposes and not spying on people in their gardens.

Sophiesdog11 · 20/12/2018 07:41

Brizzle - my DS is on a placement year at NATS, one of his tasks is analysing incidents like drones!

I've just been messaging him as he got ready for work, he works close to and has visited Swanwick tower regularly, which I am guessing will be the tower managing the diverts!

We will no doubt hear some NATS info on the incident when he comes home tomorrow.

BeardedMum · 20/12/2018 07:46

Idiots. I hope they catch them. I don’t see any reason why drones should not be banned. Is there one?
