Have you ever gone off a celebrity because of something they've done?

I used to really like Ewan McGregor until he had an affair.

Same with Robson Green in the 90s.

I loved Michael Moriarty (still do) but he's become a huge loony and an old soak.

Liked Ant McPartlin before the drink driving and infidelity.

Have you ever liked a celeb and then gone off them because of something they've said or done? Does it just prove that celebs are human like the rest of us?

I did once like Emma Thompson, but apropos of the Brexit vote, she proclaimed she thought England was a miserable, grey, cake eating nation (or words to that effect). Of course she is entitled to her opinion on the vote, but does she have label the whole country in such a way, a country incidentally that she still chooses to live in.

Binglebong · 20/11/2018 13:38

I went off the Last Leg people after Brexit. The week before they were saying follow your heart, bite the way you ferl, there's good on both side but nake sure you vote. The week with the results they basically said backward xenophobic idiots had doomed Britain. It was really really strong and horrible. I want to like them still but can't. Just left too bad a taste in my mouth.

Binglebong · 20/11/2018 13:39

Vote the way you feel*

Wavyheaded · 20/11/2018 13:44

Is there a link to Eddie Izzard's comments? I've always beena huge fan. What did he say?Shock

Haworthia · 20/11/2018 13:51

Re. Eddie Izzard: despite dining out on his “action transvestite” routine for decades, he’s now washed his hands of the term and has decided that he was/is a transgender trailblazer. So instead of saying “I’m a man but I love wearing women’s clothes and heels and nail polish” (which is fine) he’s decided to rebrand himself as transgender (which is bollocks).

I went off the Last Leg people after Brexit. They have a strong agenda about everything. The right thinking sort of course.

derxa · 20/11/2018 14:03

There's going to be quite a strong backlash against people like The Last Leg people, Emma Thompson and Eddie Izzard. Maybe Brexit was partly fuelled by it. Preaching by celebrities is becoming more unpopular.

LuckyDiamond · 20/11/2018 14:09

I went off Last Leg’s Adam Hills when he became too earnest which made him hugely unfunny.

He used to be side-splittingly funny live.

LuckyDiamond · 20/11/2018 14:11

@BlancheM

At least two Mumsnetters have been on the receiving end of the famed HFW hair treatment while sleeping.

AdobeWanKenobi · 20/11/2018 14:19

Guy Martin after he talked about cheating on his girlfriend in one of his books. Went off him a bit after that.

ihatethecold · 20/11/2018 14:25

my dh worked in royalty protection for 5 years... It's very true that Andrew is despised by most that come into contact with him.. he is insanely jealous of his older brother and how Charles' kids get more attention than his.

I could probably fill a whole thread with stories about him working there.

He's now at the BBC... that is a whole other level of idiots..
Gary Lineker has someone to carry his pass because he's too important to do it himself.

Ian wright is abusive to the security staff.... I could go on and on and on..

RiverTam · 20/11/2018 14:31

ihate ooh, very interesting. Who was his favourite royal? My guess would be Anne? One of the younger ones?

I am now totally envisaging your DH as Richard Madden!

MrsJayy · 20/11/2018 14:36

I went right of Emma Thompson when she bowed for her damehood she imo is a hypocrite !

Re the Red Hot Chili Peppers - this is a disturbing read:

Binglebong · 20/11/2018 15:17

I think it was the hypocrisy that really got me on the The Last Leg - if they had just said "we think you should vote this way" I wouldn't have liked it but would at least respect it. But the way they did it....

Wavyheaded · 20/11/2018 16:26

Hmmm eddie izzard's comments aren't that surprising to me, no one says transvestite any more, i guess it's a case of evolution of language? And he's always said he's a "lesbian in a man's body". This hasn't really changed my mind, I think

rightreckoner · 20/11/2018 16:32

It changes my opinion of him. He’s erasing women.

Wavyheaded · 20/11/2018 16:46

It's impossible to erase women.

FromEden · 20/11/2018 16:54

And he's always said he's a "lesbian in a man's body". This hasn't really changed my mind, I think

He used to say that as a joke. Now he is being serious, and he isn't in a "man's body" anymore according to him. He used to open about being a man who enjoyed crossdressing. I used to find his pushing of gender roles refreshing. Remember his whole "they aren't women's clothes because they belong to me, a man" thing? To claim he has been an out transwoman all this time is a complete lie and a rewriting of history.

VanillaSugary · 20/11/2018 17:00

Is Eddie Izzard gaslighting us?

Haworthia · 20/11/2018 17:04

I wouldn’t say the erasure of the word “transvestite” has anything to do with language evolving, actually. Transvestite and transgender don’t mean the same thing.

Transvestites get a sexual kick out of wearing women’s clothes. It’s a fetish. But nowadays that gets brushed under the carpet in favour of the transgender argument of: “I have a lady brain”, “I have girl DNA” and “I was born in the wrong body”.

BlancheM · 20/11/2018 17:27

Yep Eddie Izzard colluding to erode women's rights fucked me off as well. His turnaround means he was lying all along or is lying now. It's one or the other, it can't be both.

Moononthehill28 · 20/11/2018 17:30

Ewan McGregor as well. What a disappointment.
Tom cruise because of the way he dumped Nicole, not the Scientology stuff.

Wavyheaded · 20/11/2018 17:42

Ok, thanks for explaining. I'm not well up on all the various trans definitions. It's too confusing! I do know in interviews that he has always said there is a "genetic component" to how he feels though - whether that is sexual fetish or "lady brain" i have no idea. Perhaps he was clarifying that using today's jargons.
