Saw on Facebook that its now 20 years old! Shock
I adore it and watch it over and over. Even the missing episode from series 3 where they leave baby David with Anthony so they can go boozing. Plus all the specials including the brilliant Queen of Sheba.

Dad! Your flies are undone!

Jim Royle: Ah, the cage might be open, but the beast is asleep.

Barbara Royle: Beast my arse!

Song - was it I'll take you home again Kathleen?

CaoNiMa · 15/09/2018 21:03

"Don't worry about me, Barb. I'll eat any old shite."

Pinkyponkcustard · 15/09/2018 21:05

I love it, can’t watch the one where nanna dies though. It makes me all nostalgic for the 90s

What is this missing episode and how can I watch it??

Arthuritis · 15/09/2018 21:12

Mary in the dyson

And spaghetti hoops for tea.

topcat2014 · 15/09/2018 21:16

Funnily enough, earlier today I found myself wondering if Liz Smith had died - and I found that she had, bless her.

I haven't tended to watch since Caroline Ahern died - but I remember it well.

The series stared with something like £5 phoning mary next door, and Jim saying "I'll put you a serving hatch in".

Ralf Little had given up medical school do to this, which was his break out.

MakeYourOwnFuckingTea · 15/09/2018 21:17

Candle I can't find the full episode but this is on YouTube.

I’ve got it- it was in the christening episode and Jim and barb sing ‘someday you’ll want me to want you’ (old patsy cline song)

Butterymuffin · 15/09/2018 21:19

The betting on the Antiques Roadshow.

It's sad to watch knowing Caroline Aherne is dead, but then I like to think it allows us to remember her and her brilliance.

topcat2014 · 15/09/2018 21:20

@butterymuffin - I agree.

topcat2014 · 15/09/2018 21:21

I used to watch it at my mums. Don't recall dad ever watching it.

There was a 'north south' divide in our house, with mum watching corrie and dad doing something else.

The Royle family fell into this category

candlefloozy · 15/09/2018 21:24

The golden egg cup is my fave by far. I've never watched a tv show which has left me with tears running down my face from laughing too much. Sat and watched it when it aired at Christmas with my mom and dad. I remember us all laughing so much and I just felt so happy to be with them all too.

FanciedAChangeToday · 15/09/2018 21:30

Jim pulling pants out of his bum
,"These cost a £and 50p of it is up me arse" Grin

SharonBottsPoundOfGrapes · 15/09/2018 21:48

The first 2 Christmas episodes they did make me feel so festive. It's one of the things I watch during the build up while wrapping presents.
Love the specials but found Denise and Dave became more and more unbelivable.
The worst episode is where Dave can't get a hard on and Joe tries dating new women at Jims house and they all dress up as waiters and Jim wins £££ on a cashcard and cadging Carol comes round and Barbara gives her all the food and they have nothing left so Carol "gives" her the food back and invites herself and philomema says a prayer for Daves dicky and Dave gets a semi because carols boobs jiggle and the puddings resemble tits... just not funny. They made Dave really really stupid when to begin with he was just a normal bloke. Sorry I know I've rambled.Blush

ColinsVeryJolly · 16/09/2018 01:03

This thread has made me start watching it all over again 😊

roadrunner11 · 16/09/2018 01:05

Always Jim vs nana. In particular when nana was talking about her favourite mode of transport and Jim said a broomstick Grin

ColinsVeryJolly · 16/09/2018 01:18

“They’re never on their own are they”
“Why? They don’t shit out of one arsehole do they?!”

slinkysaluki · 16/09/2018 03:08

The decorating scene

QueenOfMyWorld · 16/09/2018 08:48

The one where twiggy comes for Sunday dinner,Barbara is stressed coz she wasn't expecting him and he says it's ok Barbara I'll eat any old shit me

Asterado · 16/09/2018 08:52

This programme makes my heart so happy. I find it so hard to watch now my own Mum is gone though.

Jim: ‘I bet he’s got ginger balls too’
Barbara: oooo! That reminds me I have some tangerines! Anybody want a tangerine?’

DollyWilde · 16/09/2018 09:12

queenofmyworld ah and she’s going through a hot flash at the time! Always makes me giggle as my mum was exactly the same when going through the change, if we even mentioned she looked a bit warm she’d uncharacteristically snap at us to leave it Grin

QueenOfMyWorld · 16/09/2018 09:13

DollyWilde 😁

QueenOfMyWorld · 16/09/2018 09:16

The one where Denise is saying she's ill when really she's badly hungover

spidey66 · 16/09/2018 09:17

Denise: 'stick a broom up my arse and I'll sweep the floor.'

I often use that line at work when I'm busy.

Ymamiss · 16/09/2018 10:17

No other programme has the ability to make me roar with laughter one minute, then get choked up the next.
Most of my favourite moments have been mentioned.
When they are getting chippy tea and Cheryl says she’s not that hungry so orders a fish chips and mushy peas, then Denise lets the cat out of the bag that she and Cheryl had only just had a Burger King. Then Nanna says she’s not sure she would be able to eat a full portion and Cheryl says she will help her out...
When they’re talking about a hotel stay and Nanna says about the chocolate under the pillow... Jim: “Cheryl would want a chocolate bloody pillow!”
But the sad bits too, probably the saddest being the Queen of Sheba episode..where Denise introduces the new baby to Nanna as baby Norma...oh I cried, then laughed straightaway as she carries on with about 4 middle names.
Then when Nanna dies, that scene where they all stand over her to say goodbye, the bit where Jim’s face crumples and he sobs, that bit gets me every time and I’m a mess. So, so emotional.
