Saw on Facebook that its now 20 years old! Shock
I adore it and watch it over and over. Even the missing episode from series 3 where they leave baby David with Anthony so they can go boozing. Plus all the specials including the brilliant Queen of Sheba.

Dad! Your flies are undone!

Jim Royle: Ah, the cage might be open, but the beast is asleep.

Barbara Royle: Beast my arse!

I loved the bit where the next door neighbour started singing "I'll take you home again Kathleen", possibly Nana's funeral episode?? Also, Jim playing the ukelele! (Not quotes, but still).

CurbsideProphet · 14/09/2018 22:50

All of it, just all of it Smile

If we have the telly on at 7pm and The One Show comes on DP and I give each other a look, as it always makes us think of the Royles.

MakeYourOwnFuckingTea · 14/09/2018 22:51

Curbside do you sing along? One. One! Ooooonnnnnneeeeee!!!!

Love when Dave is reading a Mills and Boon to Norma in a monotone voice. He makes it sound so dull although Jim finds it erotic.

I’m from a very working class northern background and I didn’t like the Royle family at all, despite outstanding performances from Ricky Tomlinson & Sue Johnstone.

I thought it was sneering and patronising, depicting a caricature of a working class family for middle class people to laugh at.

LucheroTena · 14/09/2018 23:02

I think it’s a working class thing rather than a northern thing. We all roared at it. DH family (middle class) don’t get it.

Maverick66 · 14/09/2018 23:03

The Christmas one when they went to Dave and Denise for dinner.
Dave's dad kept calling Barbara ..Bar-Ber- ahh

Magicstar1 · 14/09/2018 23:05

The one where Nana spends ages in the toilet but can’t go. Then she laughs and let’s out a loud fart....when she wafts her skirt at Jim to share it cracks me up. I love them all laughing and Jim shouting “good old Norma”

LucilleBluth · 14/09/2018 23:09

When they are watching Catchphrase and Dave keeps repeating, 'if you see it say it' and Denise says 'Dave, if you're not seeing it stop saying it'...or something to that effect.

Jim getting ready to go to the Feathers 'Get your coat Barbra' 'why are you taking me' 'no, I'm turning the fire off'.

When they sing songs from Annie to Cheryl's ginger boyfriend and of course the hairbrushing scene.

The way they ridicule Anthony when he talks about his band going to London.

I'm Mancunian and although I never went back after uni The RF makes me feel all cosy.

Afonavon · 14/09/2018 23:18

“Dave, take your coat off...take your coat off Dave...” I always quote this to DH when he sits in his coat on the sofa, he refuses to take it off too!

“Greeeeeen” (in a Scottish accent) when they are watching Millionaire. That’s the only way we now say green (we’re not Scottish!)

VeryBerrySeptember · 14/09/2018 23:23

BonnieF , my mum thinks the same as you.

0urKid · 14/09/2018 23:27

Just started binge watching. Thanks for that. I'm powerless.

blancheduboiss · 14/09/2018 23:31

Elsie’s funeral has me in stitches
“I bet you were bloody delighted, when Elsie bloody croaked it” Grin

FireCrotch · 14/09/2018 23:34

No way. It was made by working class people for working class people. Not sneery in the least. It was warmhearted and sincere. I hated it as a teen. I didn't understand the humour even being from Manchester. But I love it now.

JaneJeffer · 14/09/2018 23:43

I love when Nana is talking about how lovely Valerie is and asks them "Do you know who she reminds me of?" And when they say no she says "me" Grin

I haven't watched since Caroline Ahern died because I will cry.

JaneJeffer · 14/09/2018 23:45

And when Barbara and Denise are trying on Valerie's coat in the background.

Costacoffeeplease · 14/09/2018 23:49

A lot of mine include cheryl

2 weeks, 2 months or 2 years

Emptying nanna’s catheter down the side of the washing up bowl in the sink

I’ve lost half a stone, no wait, half a pound

anitagreen · 14/09/2018 23:51

When Jim is trying to get the tv Ariel going in the caravan and denise won't do it so he says "if you want something done do it yourself, Go on barb get up there" Grin

HollowTalk · 15/09/2018 00:02

When Denise asks what eyeshadow Cheryl's wearing and she says Boots Own No. 7

YolandiFuckinVisser · 15/09/2018 00:05

When nana has her eye operation and the surgeon was called Michael Crawford. "You know Barbara, Michael Crawford, ooh Betty"

MakeYourOwnFuckingTea · 15/09/2018 00:12

When Cheryls new jacket turns out to be too small. They're American sizes.

AviatorShades · 15/09/2018 00:23

the sing song " i want a girl, just like the girl who married dear old dad" , or something similar, with jim playing his ukelele and anthony playing the spoons. unforgettable!

JaneJeffer · 15/09/2018 00:30

Nana taking all the stuff out of her handbag including a remote control and then passing a pound along to Anthony because he's going to London.

And when they found Joe's drill down the back of the sofa.

The gravy in the measuring jug.

I love all their ancient looking Christmas decorations and them drinking snowballs.

We're Mary and Joseph but instead of Jesus we have Cheryl.

It's just so good. I will have to brave the tears and rewatch it all again.

CheddarIsNotTheOnlyCheese · 15/09/2018 02:06

Denise and co discussing Valeries boobs.
Denise "I'd love a reduction but Dave won't let me have one."
Barbara "Dave works all week Denise. Be fair."
Dave nods along solemnly while staring at Valeries chest. Grin

Did anyone see that documentary years ago that had loads of famous people (Noel Gallagher JK Rowling etc) I think it was called Behind the Sofa? That was great. JK said her favourite moment was when Anthony introduces Emma to the family and Denise just looks her up and down. Remember girls doing that myself. Very intimidating. Grin
