I’m from a very working class northern background and I didn’t like the Royle family at all, despite outstanding performances from Ricky Tomlinson & Sue Johnstone.

I thought it was sneering and patronising, depicting a caricature of a working class family for middle class people to laugh at.

I think it’s a working class thing rather than a northern thing. We all roared at it. DH family (middle class) don’t get it.

Did anyone see that documentary years ago that had loads of famous people (Noel Gallagher JK Rowling etc) I think it was called Behind the Sofa? That was great. JK said her favourite moment was when Anthony introduces Emma to the family and Denise just looks her up and down. Remember girls doing that myself. Very intimidating.
