Girls were finally allowed to wear grey cords at my school in winter when I was 15. I have never worn a skirt in winter since.

I also liked Finbar Saunders and his Double Entendres, and Buster Gonad and his Unfeasibly Large Testicles.

I'm germophobic. I'm scared of Germans.

I'd forgotten Finbar (and yet I say "phnerr phnerr" quite often).

Actually, my MAIN favourite (even better than the Fat Slags) was Roger Mellie, the man on the telly.

KeepServingTheDrinks · 22/08/2018 15:45

Did anyone else watch the wrestling with their dad on a Saturday afternoon?

TornFromTheInside · 22/08/2018 16:15

I did. I liked Rollerball Rocco!

TornFromTheInside · 22/08/2018 16:16

All those old ladies with their handbags booing at Giant Haystacks and begging for Kendo Nagasaki to have his mask ripped off!

KeepServingTheDrinks · 22/08/2018 16:21

Don't remember Rollerball Rocco, but definitely the other two.

My dad took me to an actual wrestling match once. None of the really big names, though. Maybe Mick McMannus??? (was he the "cry baby" one?)
It was a bit scary live, although I quite enjoyed all the booing and shouting out. I was in what's now known as Yr 5, so I'd have been 9 going on 10. Not sure that a wrestling match is really the MOST appropriate day out for a kid.

TornFromTheInside · 22/08/2018 16:29

It was on World of Sport with Dickie Davis on Saturday afternoons - considered family viewing back then.

I think half the old ladies in the crowd had been auditioning for parts in The Sweeney, and opted to watch wrestling as they waited for their screen test

KeepServingTheDrinks · 22/08/2018 16:37

It was! What was the name of the compare? Was it Ken someone?

KeepServingTheDrinks · 22/08/2018 16:38

@Claw001 get your arse over onto this thread

TornFromTheInside · 22/08/2018 16:44

Kent Walton

KeepServingTheDrinks · 22/08/2018 16:46

Sparkly jackets?

TornFromTheInside · 22/08/2018 16:47

are you in need of some?

donniemurdo · 22/08/2018 17:07

WOS Wrestling is back on the tv for a 10 week series!!! Saturdays, 5pm, ITV - relive the old days GrinGrin

TornFromTheInside · 22/08/2018 17:19

Can you imagine it in HD?

I think this is a cunning ploy to get people screaming for SD so they don''t see all the horrible details!

donniemurdo · 22/08/2018 18:06

Ooooh, hadn't thought of the HD angle - could be grim Confused

TornFromTheInside · 22/08/2018 18:18

Would be quite good to see again though.
I'm becoming increasingly aware of how my actual recollection of past events vs the reality of them can differ significantly. Old TV shows, books, sometimes a hotel, or pub - never quite as you remembered them. Of course I know that buildings change etc, but sometimes you can find an image of somewhere set around timeframe you remember, and the fact vs memory gap can be quite startling!

So - I would love to watch a bit of the wrestling again, if only to laugh at my own claims that 'it was quite entertaining'.
I have a feeling it's going be appallingly bad!

KeepServingTheDrinks · 22/08/2018 19:03

Always need a sparking jacket!

Is it repeats or all new? I'd watch the repeats, not interested in today's "stars". Also, I'll feel sad because my dad's dead now Sad

TornFromTheInside · 22/08/2018 19:12

He gave us you. Pretty decent legacy x

iklboo · 22/08/2018 20:10

Oooh. We had to put my nana in the middle of the row of seats when we went to watch wrestling. One time she was at the end she was off and battering Mick McManus with her handbag Shock

TornFromTheInside · 22/08/2018 20:36

Easy!!! Easy!!! Easy!!! +Claps hands above his head+

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 22/08/2018 20:50

Your nana sounds great iklboo! 😂

I'm almost tempted to get my leotard on

donniemurdo · 22/08/2018 22:05

It's all new. Briefly caught it on Saturday and the kids were fascinated (until we told them in detail all about the history of wrestling on Saturday afternoons and then they all disappeared Hmm)

One of the wrestlers is the son of the British Bulldog and they all have a lovely selection of tight Lycra which hopefully doesn't chafe too much. One chap sports a very fetching big beard/mask combo

Maybe we should have a live 'watching the wrestling' thread where we moan about how it's not as good as it was in the old days interspersed with the odd "ooof", "oh, that must have hurt" and "those tights are awfully tight - leave nothing to the imagination" type comments?

KeepServingTheDrinks · 22/08/2018 22:06

Thank you for that comment, Torn Blush

Agree with PSB about your nana Iklboo

Torn, whilst I hope that you and every other MNer wears what is most comfortable for them whilst there on here, (and I'm mentally picturing yours as leopard-skin, whilst wishing I wasn't), - personally, I like to type wearing nothing by my patented MN nipple tassels [which these days, also serve as handy knee warmers].
Anyway, back to your leotard.... I'm really really really really REALLY hoping you've exceed your photo limit for the day. Because as wholesome as I'm sure you'll look, I don't think the world is yet ready, even amongst your ever-growing army of Torn fans

Where's Claw? Why isn't she here enjoying the fun. I namechecked her and everything.
