Girls were finally allowed to wear grey cords at my school in winter when I was 15. I have never worn a skirt in winter since.

We were reminiscing about wrestling in the TV from the 70's and 80's - it used to be on TV on Saturday afternoon.

Someone said it's coming back to TV - for a limited period - but we didn't know if it was a more modern version, or re-runs from the 70's.

That is how we started to joke about wearing leotards (in jest). At least I think it was in jest!

TattyFrench · 23/08/2018 01:21

But it was only on when football wasn't on? Or was football Sunday and wrestling Saturday? No, football was Saturday? But why do I remember Shepherd's pie and football on Saturday and roast dinner and football on Sunday? But then going to watch football on Saturday afternoon? There wasn't any time for wrestling! But I remember wrestling/news/The Generation Game and (a bit later/older) Starkey and Hutch/Chips/The Professionals. As a special treat we'd sometimes have a Yorkie bat and a can of Coke - that surely helped us sleep!

keepserving
Please do . My godson gets his results tomorrow after a rocky couple of years health wise . We can fistbump each other .

TattyFrench · 23/08/2018 01:23

KeepServing yes, of course share your news. Good luck to your DD.

TornFromTheInside · 23/08/2018 01:24

From memory, the wrestling was on before the football - so if you actually attended football games you would have been travelling to the match, and thus missed it.

In those days, I think all games were at 3.00pm Saturday (barring midweek matches).

TattyFrench · 23/08/2018 01:30

That might be why I'm muddled - on 'home' game days we went to the match but not 'away', wrestling must have been winter because I remember sitting in front of the gas fire in a jumper. On a round shag pile rug!

TattyFrench · 23/08/2018 01:32

I've just realised Match of the Day was Sunday afternoon after lunch.

TornFromTheInside · 23/08/2018 01:35

Was it?
God I'm going senile. I never knew that. I was sure it was Saturday night.

TattyFrench · 23/08/2018 01:40

Oh no! It was Grandstand!!! Was it? With the cool 70's lettering? Written in lines? Yes, MOTD was Sat night. Or did some teams play Sunday? There was definitely football on Sunday afternoon? Am I going senile?

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 23/08/2018 05:16

Keep yes, please share. I get you. I have a very bright DD and can only talk about how proud I am of her in RL to one friend with a DS with LD. Confused

Ah, we were JOKING

KeepServingTheDrinks · 23/08/2018 06:42

How old's your DD PSB?

Tatty it's not my thread either, but i'm all for inclusivity. Wear boots as big as you like to eat your Yorkie Bats (nice autocorrect!). Wink

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 23/08/2018 07:57

She's 10 Keep, 11 next month. She was assessed as GAT in year 1, with a reading age of 12.

OP posts:
KeepServingTheDrinks · 23/08/2018 08:00

That's a nice age, PSB. So going into Yr 6 in Sept?

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 23/08/2018 08:09

Yep! She's Shock that she'll be the 2nd oldest in the school, and her BFF's Shock that she'll be the oldest! The responsibility for the young ones! 😂

OP posts:
KeepServingTheDrinks · 23/08/2018 08:17

Sweet!

Good luck with the secondary application process. Is the choice clear for you?

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 23/08/2018 08:35

Yes, we've got a 1st and 2nd choice, she'll probably get into the 2nd as the 1st only has an intake of 125. The only criterion we fulfil for both schools is distance from school, that's 3rd for 2nd choice and 4th for 1st choice.

KeepServingTheDrinks · 23/08/2018 08:59

Good luck. If it helps 1 - 3 will be things like LACs, SEN and it's unlikely there'll be too many of those. The "older sib in the school" one is a bugger for your oldest. Long wait til March.....

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 23/08/2018 09:09

And for DS2 if she gets into 1st choice, as it's a girls' school... Thanks for the luck!

Fist bumps all round. DD got the points she needed and passed maths. She has her place in 6th form.

De-rail over. Back to the leotards.

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 23/08/2018 09:44

👊 well done miniKeep!

OP posts:
KeepServingTheDrinks · 23/08/2018 09:47

not that mini, PSB, she's nearly 6'.

I've derailed enough. Let's go back to grim and tacky now. (only I can't think of anything cos I'm shaking too much).

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 23/08/2018 09:52

Well, my eldest is known on MN as BathsLad, (something to do with previous nn) - KeepLass?

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 23/08/2018 09:54

I haven't contributed much grim and tackiness, shit memory. I just say: "Ooh yes, I had one of those!" Blush

I only have to turn up to make something grim and tacky.
