WTF Album Covers

(un)Inspired by utterly dreadful 'Top Of The Pops' album covers of the 1970s, it struck me that there must be hundreds, if not thousands of weird album covers out there... I don't mean strange esoteric covers with abstract art, but I mean outrageously provocative (for the time), batshit odd, or creepy as heck covers...

Scorpions, Lovedrive album, just weird. And Scorpions, Virgin Killer, just wrong.

Dont know why these 2 just came to me first

TornFromTheInside · 17/08/2018 13:22

Many of Scorpions were iffy, I am a big fan of the music.

Animal Instincts was naughty

I wonder if this was an instrumental album... there are no words...

The first one that came to mind was some awful sort of death metal band whose name escapes me...

The cover was an actual photograph of their bandmate after he had shot himself in the head.

Grim. I feel like I have spoiled the fun of Kingsize Dick now though. Sorry Sad

TornFromTheInside · 17/08/2018 13:28

That does sound very grim! mind you, some of these covers look awful, but the one you said probably not likely to raise a smirk.
People can post what they like, but I was imagining ones that would raise a smile or an eyebrow, but little more!

Well, now you can be...

The worst one I saw was a recording of a long forgotten kids tv series where children sang pop songs and danced. The cover featured two little girls plastered in makeup and posing!

TornFromTheInside · 17/08/2018 14:00

There are definitely a few suggestive ones like that - I've been reluctant to post those for obvious reasons. There was absolutely a 'time' when stuff like that just seemed to completely escape most people's attention, but looking back now, possibly through cynical eyes - but it can look very sinister/dodgy

Just remembered, it was called MiniPops!

TornFromTheInside · 17/08/2018 14:02

It's music - I think they got away with so much more just because there were considered avant-garde.

Well the Scorpions managed to knock Wikipedia off the internet for a while ...

mypoosmellsofroses · 17/08/2018 14:20

Some great ones here, shamelessly lifted from one of my favourite FB groups

Oh I used to love the Minipops when i was about 5! I wanted to be one of those kids. ...

I think there's an awful lot of 80s rock and metal albums with extremely dubious covers.

JaneJeffer · 17/08/2018 14:38

In Ireland gee is slang for lady bits (pronounced with a soft g)

TornFromTheInside · 17/08/2018 15:07

So when someone asks if I fancy an afternoon at the gee gees - do I need to buy The Racing Post, or at least two condoms?

KeepServingTheDrinks · 17/08/2018 15:11

This one's ironic, because it's from a spoof film, but I give you:

KeepServingTheDrinks · 17/08/2018 15:13

I don't know if I can think of any specific albums or people, but there used to be those 1970s duos who were people you'd never heard of murdering cover versions to make them "lounge music"???

TornFromTheInside · 17/08/2018 15:17

Peters and Lee types. I've used up my 30 images for the day, so will have to stack a few up for tomorrow. Wish mumsnet could roll them over and let us accrue them! They can't be that short of server space.

JaneJeffer · 17/08/2018 15:21
