Inspired by a thread about hygiene - carpets in kitchens and toilets, I thought it could be interesting to recall some of the diabolical tat from the past.

You say that like it's a surprise!

Oh oh I have that stag!! My granny died recently and I got to take him home as I thought he was cute and always remember it being on grannys mantlepiece.

Under my mum's stairs (which she called a pantry due to it leading into the kitchen) was reminiscent of the entrance to Tutankhamun's tomb, except there were things in there that were a lot older.

The used to have an absolutely huge magnet (at least the size of a house brick). No wonder time seemed to stand still when I explored in their as a child - I think it stopped my watch, it was that strong.

My Mum treasured her day-glo orange Kenwood Chef. It was the size and weight of a small car and produced a level of noise similar to that of a jet engine.

And this thing of beauty hung in pride of place above our fireplace.

Did anyone have an Afghan Coat? I don't have a pic of mine but it was a bit like this and it smelled really badly of wet sheep samiraatash.com/vintage-afghan-style-part-2-the-afghan-coat/

CocoCarrie · 17/08/2018 17:43

Sidge: Those indoor rope hanging plants are back in fashion with the hipster kids. I can't decide if I love them or hate them hmm

EdWinchester · 17/08/2018 17:44

My childhood bedroom ensuite in my parents’ house STILL has those chicken tiles! (I had no idea they were called that)

Fake grass is an abomination. Hideous, crass and tasteless. I think in a few short years it will be as loathed as decking is today, yet that was all the rage 10 years ago.

Oldraver · 17/08/2018 17:46

I still have an Acoroc smoked glass dish. I was looking for old Pyrex on Ebay recently and the smoked glass stuff is expensive

elephantoverthehill · 17/08/2018 17:49

DiagramAlly I so wanted an afghan coat at about the age of 5. Dm said it would smell in the rain so I never got one. I saw one in a vintage shop the other week and was sorely tempted Grin.

ghostyslovesheets · 17/08/2018 17:57

I still have Wade Whimsies!

I remember these on every bed

Bend me over backwards on me Hostess trolley.

(Sorry if someone has already come out with this.)

ghostyslovesheets · 17/08/2018 17:58

KeepServingTheDrinks · 17/08/2018 18:04

Ain't happening.
Go ahead without me, but you'll never get me in a wedding dress

Right, screw you Torn. You've had your chance .

EVERYBODY: I'm declaring this wedding a MAN FREE ZONE and everyone on this thread, you're ALL invited. We've got our flower girl, and we've got the awesome Claw (who's doing all the work). You all need to consider wearing nylon, (but you don't have to) AND WE ALL GET TO PUT IN OUR ORDERS ON THE PRESENT LIST Yup. That's right... Presents for everyone! Tat all round.

Who's in?

Let's set a date and go.......

KeepServingTheDrinks · 17/08/2018 18:06

My childhood bedroom ensuite in my parents’ house STILL has those chicken tiles! (I had no idea they were called that) Ed they were called that because if they're all the same way round and look at them right, they look like an army of marching chickens. Once you've seen it, you can't unsee it!

Purplealienpuke · 17/08/2018 18:07

Sidge where did you find that picture? My aunty is looking for some of those! I'd love to buy her some 😊

PerfectlySymmetricalButtocks · 17/08/2018 18:14

Not if I have to wear a dress Keep.

TornFromTheInside · 17/08/2018 18:16

TheOnlyAletheia · 17/08/2018 18:33

This thread is making me larf, really properly.

Charolais · 17/08/2018 18:39

The Bay City Rollers - That is not camel toe - that’s moose knuckle.

CatchyUsername · 17/08/2018 18:41

These were all the rage when I was at primary school in the 70s.....I DESPERATELY wanted one. It was not to be.

CatchyUsername · 17/08/2018 18:43

....and caramel coloured wedges when I was at secondary school in the late 70s. I wanted the ones with the trendy tassel. I got the sensible lace up version.
