as to the identity of Liz Jones mystery rock star lover? Apologies if I am repeating a thread but just read today's 'wingefest' and can't believe its anything other than a work of fiction.

Methinks it just has to be Midge Ure
Ure resides in a village near Bath. Ure has been married twice: to actress and writer Annabel Giles (with whom he has one daughter, Molly) and to Sheridan Forbes (with whom he has three daughters, Kitty, Ruby and Flossie). Ure's two main passions are music and cooking.
Silver grey hair(although not a lot)
Ure is a recovering alcoholic.
Perhaps he had to speed off before he was forced back on the wagon...

Midge ures children are young. We know it's jk afterall, his daughter is having twins in rl as well as in the column. There's no point in thnking it's anyone else. What is she going to write about now we have all sussed her?

Of course the column is about a month out of date so it could all be back on by now - if in fact it did finish. All we are told is that he drove off 'out of her life' but one of them could have phoned the other (if it was Liz she could have come to her senses and apologised)
Somehow though I think we all knew it would go pear shaped sooner or later didn't we? I do honestly wish her well but I can't help feeling she will never be happy.

D'you think that him driving off out of her life is a red herring 'cos we've sleuthed who it is??

Aw, I hope not. I want her to be happy as well but she has a self destruct button, doesn't she?

The RS was the only interesting theme that she had written about ever.
If the diaries continue to be about sheep and cats, this thread will be out of business.......
Liz will never be happy, happiness is not within her grasp.
But then if she changed, would her writing be as interesting...????

What a fantastic thread. I absolutely LOVE Liz Jone's columns and books and have really enjoyed reading these threads! I really admire her but recognise that she contradicts herself quite a lot. Had thought that RS was Robert Plant but now am edging closer to Jim Kerr.

And I don't believe we have seen the back of him

Has anyone else been reading her comlumn since it was called 'Married Life' in the You mag? Her revelations about how her husband treated her seemed so extraordinary to me that I honestly didn't believe that 'Liz Jones' was a real person. I couldn't understand how a supposedly intelligent , successful woman would put up with being treated so badly, so was convinced that she was some sort of spoof character dreamed up by a journalist on the mag. Then I saw a piece in the DM about her attending a book signing, complete with a photo of her, and was amazed to realise that she actually existed!
I have been hooked on her writing ever since.

I'm sure there will be another book....

I am quite fascinated by her too - as I admitted earlier on this thread, but I think that it's because I was just like her when I was growing up (absolutely zero self esteem, painfully gauche and shy)

However, unlike Liz, I know that I have grown up now, learnt to laugh at myself and gained confidence and self esteem along the way - I don't put up with unacceptable behaviour anymore

I think she subconsciously sabotages things so she doesn't get hurt again....hence her behaviour towards the RS. I so want her to be happy - I really do!

Well he has given her an ultimatum - to stop writing about him, or presumably they are finished. You can read it kittya as it sin't all about the animals!
I am gutted. The column will be quite boring if it is all animals BUT I can see why she must stop. He sounds so nice, so patient with her, AND he is rich. She mustn't do anything to jeapardise the relationship. It is so frustrating though isn't it, that if she stops writing about him we may never learn for certain who it is Aggggghh!

Oh, we will see them together at some point. Thryvare touring all Summer and someone around here is bound to kno someone who knows someone working in the industry. They cant hide forever. I'm even less likely to read it now. Animals don't interest me. I'm surprised she got away with the glassy little eyes comment tbh.

It's Robert Plant. I live in the village. Sigh. Not really a secret here but they are a very nice couple.

And Robert Smith from the Cure runs my local hairdressers! Anyone else care to make spurious claims we have no way of checking?

Red herring springs to mind. I still say Midge Ure - small eyes,scottish, pregnant daughter (his daughter is 24, so not too young), skinny, lives in Bath (which is near Exmoor)

I honestly can't see HOW it could be RP. His site lists all his tour dates past and present, and he's basically been on tour for the best part of a year......a large portion of time being spent in the US. The last I heard about his romantic life, he was seeing US musician Katrina Chester. My bet is still on Mr Kerr!
