So why have you wasted time on it? I open threads, read a few posts, decide they’re not for me and move on. You’ve posted constantly on a thread you’re uninterested in. Why?

I agree, I don't think it was interesting enough for an AMA.

What was the point of this AMA thread? The original post was hardly insightful. Well done kiddos they've done what so many others have done. The OP even left the thread because it is so boring. And no I'm not jealous, I've done the same in a nearby area, as have my kids it's not that hard round here.

I agree, nobody should be mocking anybody for where they live. I couldn't agree more.
My only real point on this entire thread is that there will always be reasons why it costs more to live in some areas than others.
Quoting coulditbeme2323

Premiums? Look, we have completely different outlooks on one thing, but probably a lot in common.
My stance is that NO ONE, should be mocking people who don't live in London and the SE.
We're all happy in our own wee bits of the UK.
My "beef" is that people think the be all and end all is living in two specific areas.
Which, imo, has been borne out on this thread.
I don't know why people responded to the OP in the way they did, but it hasn't shown people who live in these areas in their best light.

That's great they own their own homes - but it doesn't change the fact they are expensive areas.
My children are all children, nowhere close to moving out.

Nope. I have three nephews living in Edinburgh, and an Aunty and Uncle, three cousins and their families in Brighton. All own their own homes. You just can't justify your own stance. What age are your children btw? 23?
Quoting Differentforgirls
coulditbeme2323 ·

But that wasn't your point, you keep jumping from point to point.
Your point was people being priced out of the area they live.

That isn't exclusive to the South East.
That's true of Edinburgh, Bristol, Brighton, large parts of Devon and Cornwall.

That people are being priced out of a home in the area they live. Due to, imo. greed.

Quoting coulditbeme2323

I honestly think that you should be up in arms about it because without people who work for minimum wage or under the £100k that appears to "not go very far" on here, it would be a desert with nothing that actually matters getting done.
People could sit in their ivory towers with overflowing bins, dirty houses, no restaurants, no theatre, museums, cinema, etc. No food deliveries, no supermarkets, no "attractions" open, no emergency services, no schools, no hospitals, no people who work for the council, no social workers, no "beauty" treatments, no pubs, no ubers - could go an all day.
The reason that it's "where the money is", is because of people like the above being exploited and being priced out of buying their own home, if that's what they want to do.
In my opinion.

I say live where you want, where makes you happy, I would never tell anybody where I live is better than where they live.
But I do understand why property is priced in the way it is.

I think we're all getting a bit offended due to multiple people on the thread openly laughing at the OP and her children as if they are "lesser" for not living in London or the SE.
She's proud of them and the people mocking her think they are, somehow, superior despite also saying how skint they are living in these areas.
There is far more to the UK than London and the SE.
Also, you mentioned the Yorkshire Moors and the Scottish Highlands.
There is a lot of money in both these areas and indeed in every area of the UK.
There is also a lot of poverty in London and the SE.
It would have been gracious for people in London and the SE to accept that people in other parts of the UK have better lives than they do, rather than mock them for it.
Manners cost nothing.

I would rather live in Maine than New York, but I understand why New York is more expensive.
I can totally understand why some people would rather live in The Yorkshire Moors or Scottish Highlands than London or The South East - but there will always be a premium to live near a global power.

Couldn't agree more. I'm northern but have lived in the SE and some people who live there (note I said some) really can't seem to see the wood for the trees in terms of what an utter rip-off things like housing can be in the area.

I would hate to be so obsessed by money.
This is why the SE and London are, in my opinion, like Sodom and Gomorrah.
No offence to anyone living there.
But, imo, this thread shows that some of the residents are completely obsessed with status and income.
It shows in the envy of people who do better with far less income plus have time for their children, and in the blaming the vulnerable for situations outwith their control.
It's unhealthy.
I am not blaming people with normal incomes who live there and take people as they find them. They're the most healthy.
But this thread has shown me how lucky I have been to live where I live.
And I'm further "North", than the people who have been disparaged on here.

So the houses were £130k and £170k is that right ?
here in south east that wouldn’t even buy a one bed flat
but well done them
i brought my home at 26 tho it’s 5 times the cost now
