I've been in this field for almost 20 years. I started out doing readings and then I branched out into teaching. I have had books published and I have read for and taught thousands of people.

Ask me anything if you are curious about this line of work.

I know that this is a controversial field of work - some people believe in it and some don't. Obviously I believe in it fully to be doing this. I will ignore any questions from people with an axe to grind (i.e. those that imply I'm scamming people or delusional).

Fine I'll find it

Good.
I'd love to see the definitive proof...........

We don’t imply you’re scamming vulnerable people, we know. If you honestly have this sort of gift, then quite frankly it would be disgusting to charge desperate people looking for help that you could apparently give without any effort

That's really naive. I am a specialist respiratory nurse. I do private work. Surgeries either pay what I charge or they don't. Would you think that I was depriving people who needed my help??

HeadacheEarthquake · 07/06/2024 21:29

How do you feel scamming innocent and vulnerable people out of cash. Genuine question.

ssd · 07/06/2024 21:31

@rosemary65 , i had contact with my mum through a psychic. I dont know how she knew so much. Please tell me it was true.

Statistically significant

CIA-RDP96-00791R000200180005-5.pdf

It's really not. Go back and read the conclusion

JamSandle · 07/06/2024 21:37

My mum died at home and my experience with her made me believe there is definitely something beyond us. It almost felt mystical when she passed.

Eh? I don't get what you're saying here at all. Surely there's a huge difference between a medic whose work can be proved and a psychic/Medium whose work can't be proved??

I saw a well known psychic from my hometown a couple of years ago and he told me I had a gift and he knew that I had seen things and felt someone was near me from time to time and if i wasn't so scared and more open I would see alot more. Is that true?

I'm skeptical so that's why I ask, but strangely he did seem to know alot even my strained relationships with my parents and described them personally that was freaky.

Telling punters that they have a “gift” is a common way to butter them up.

GreenShady · 08/06/2024 00:36

What do you think about John Edward? Before he was a professional medium he was a collleague of a relative of my exDH. They didn't know each other but he (John) approached him (relative)one day to say he had someone badgering him to pass on a message and wouldn't leave him alone till he did 😂
Turned out to be my exDH's grandpa and he had a LOT to say - all very specific and private family info which was very relevant. So I believe that John Edward is as genuine as it's possible to be but not everyone is.

You're probably right I did think that but wanted her prospective on it

CurlewKate · 08/06/2024 09:42

@GreenShady John Edward has been thoroughly debunked- have a quick google.

CurlewKate · 08/06/2024 09:47

@iamreallyabee Have you read the draft paper from 1995 you posted? Because it does not say what you think it says.

I suppose I would want to see the actual data to see what is meant by "statistically significant" I think it's important

Withswitch · 08/06/2024 10:42

What we considered suitable analyses in 1995 is now completely overhauled. The statistics now used on such data are far more sophisticated and many of the 'significant' findings in older pieces of research now wouldn't be replicated. So you'd need the data (assuming the data is valid and not subject to p-hacking etc) and re-analyse it.

Oh interesting - but that incident was 100% genuine - there's no way it couldn't have been. I was there when the phone call from the relative came - it was completely baffling. They worked in a huge workplace and didn't know each other at all. Different departments completely. And the relative was only a relative by marriage - there was no chance he had been randomly discussing his dead by a couple of decades FIL and been overheard. I know you can make up any tenuous explanation, and people have before on another thread, but it would be the most ridiculous overreaching and grasping at straws.

But I can imagine that if you build a career on stuff like that you are under pressure to deliver results and can fall into the trap of relying on other less honest techniques so as not to flop. So as much as I like him, yeah I'm sure that part is true.

GreenShady · 08/06/2024 10:59

Happy to have entertained you! 😂

Mojodojocasahous · 08/06/2024 11:00

Spirits are strong tonight….Im getting the word…

BobbyBiscuits · 08/06/2024 11:04

I'm afraid to say I'm very sceptical about the whole thing. I know there a definitely some frauds out there. I'm not saying that's you angle at all.
But..
What could you do or say to a person like me to make me believe your abilities were true?
Thank you!

IWantToBeASleepingCat · 08/06/2024 11:05

I've been a clairvoyant/ Spiritualist for over 40 years .Non practicing now..
I have helped the local police ( yes they do use us).

GreenShady · 08/06/2024 11:06

Should have said happy to have entertained you @IndecentPropolis 😂

testing987654321 · 08/06/2024 11:51

So what exactly is being claimed? That some dead people can communicate with some live people?
That some people can see into the future?
That dead people know the future?

I'm interested to know how someone is trained in this. What is involved in the training and how are your abilities assessed?

rosemary65 · 08/06/2024 11:53

Hi all,

Someone on here reported my account for spam and I got banned, but Mumsnet said they made a mistake and reinstated me today.

I understand what I do isn't to everyone's taste and not everyone believes in it, but trying to silence someone just because you don't agree with their beliefs is a bit much.

I got a lot of private messages asking for my website. I do have a website but I'm not able to pass it on as I don't want to be accused of touting for business on here. The readings I offer are akashic readings.

In recent years this type of reading has become very popular and tons of people offer this kind of reading online so if you search you may find someone whose work interests you.

Akashic readings draw on concepts from Hinduism, especially reincarnation and the idea that there is a place in the spirit world that contains information about who we are on the soul level.

The philosophy behind it is that we are souls on a journey and this life is one of many. Most of us are here to learn, some souls are not here to learn but to just have experiences and explore. By exploring who you were in the past (in earthly past lives and in the spirit realm) it can give you insight into why you are here, what you may be learning, and what you are good at (and why).

Answering a question, I think it was from the first page:

I rarely get refund requests. In the early years (20 or so years ago) I had several refund requests in a short period of time. I was still learning back then and probably not that good at it.

Since then I haven't had a single person ask for a refund on a reading after I had sent it off.

I do get the occasional refund request for a book or a course if a person purchases and then changes their mind. Very occasionally a person is on the fence about whether to go ahead, they purchase and then freak out that it isn't for them.

I open for readings maybe once a quarter and shut them again a couple of weeks later once the spots are filled. I don't charge by the minute or by the hour. People pay a fee, and I go away and do the research for the reading. It takes me a few hours to do. So people pay for the reading, not the time I spend.

A lot of my business comes through word of mouth.

I don't only do readings. I'm a writer and a teacher and I spend a lot of time working with students. I also spend time studying so I can get better at what I do and to give me material for my writing.
