All I'm interested in is outrageous dressing room riders! I used to work at a venue sorting out performer dressing rooms and had some v.silly requests, if you've ever worked in this capacity would love to know if you've had any good ones?

I was the VIP greeter / contact for a very posh hotel and would help operations with pre arrival suite set up. The funniest one we had was rolling stones’ Keith Richards. A fully functional cocktail & whisky bar had to be set up in his suite and his preferred communication method was writing requests down, then faxing them to his team who would communicate to us. This was 2012 and it was tricky sourcing a fax machine. A lot of the younger artists (who tended to be huge at the time) would request the suite was blacked out which invoked taping bj liners to the windows so they could sleep . Felt sorry for them really, everyone thinks they are living this amazing life and they are spending their best years literally performing and sleeping on repeat so a lot of people can make a lot of money off them.

It's no wonder so many go off the rails.

I was skiing a few years back and met some girls, one of whom had worked in the industry, She was adamant that yes - it is a completely open secret that George is gay.

I have no problem with that and doubt many people do these days - seems odd that he still wants to hide it and therefore be the subject of all this underground speculation. Quite sad really - but I suppose it's his choice (and Amal's).

I find it really sad that actors and other people in the public eye still hide these things. But I suppose with some of them, they are in so deep, that to get out, would need a whole load of explaining.

You couldn't run to black out blinds?
Or fully lined curtains? You can get them from Dunelm with a thick lining, really works.

The suites (and all the normal rooms too) had black out blinds and curtains, the preference was bin liners taped to windows that could not be adjusted.

Oh, so just a personal quirk then. I did wonder about the hotel facilities!

It's no wonder so many go off the rails.

In all honesty, I felt sorry for the ones staying with us but at least their management was shelling out €€€€ for them to stay at our property and enjoy a high level of security / comfort. We never gave rooms away for publicity, nothing ever leaked etc, but they all had to pay. For example Justin Bieber was at the absolute height of global fame when he came to town and his management only housed him in hotels whilst on tour that gave them the suite for free. Basically ensuring they could squeeze maximum profit out of him. He was quite young at the time, no one advocating for him really just a bunch of greedy managers and yay sayers. You do see things from a rather murky side when working behind the scenes.

Maireas · 18/02/2024 07:17

It had more to do with security. Once taped up they could not be easily adjusted (unlike curtains/blinds) and potentially allow drone / paparazzi shots from inside the room.

Say VB in Macey’s NewYork, she was launching something. Very tiny and all in black, very unfriendly face on her though. Was very late , so kept loads of people waiting ages, they were all fussing around her like the queen had landed. Couldn’t manage a smile even for her fans. I was watching from the balcony cafe, so there by chance. Disappointed in her when she tolerated the Loos affair, should have dumped him. What happened to ‘ girl power’

Edited

Her and DB used to live near me. They would stand for an hour+ at times in our local M&S signing autographs. VB is very shy. Friends DC we’re at at school with their dcs at one point.

Most people who’ve met them around here liked them.

Emma Bunton - I’ve met her a couple of times also nice.

WatchOutMissMarpleIsAbout · 18/02/2024 07:33

Good luck with your treatment 💐💐

LessButBetterThings · 18/02/2024 07:55

Hi OP,

I am enjoying reading this thread. It makes a change from the misery on MN.
I hope you are feeling OK, and your treatment is going well. I wish you a speedy recovery.

Ignore the misery chuffs.

Daffodilsandtuplips · 18/02/2024 08:21

I’ve enjoyed your thread OP.
and hope your treatment is successful.
It’s been a nice distraction for me too, after eight hours at an urology clinic with DH after a worrying two weeks of catheters and antibiotics for a little bastard of an infection that didn’t give up without a fight. E Coli.

@Witchinawell The typo bj made me laugh out loud yesterday, considering which part of DH’s anatomy was involved at the Urology clinic.

I’ve nothing more to add apart from discovering Ellnett hairspray in the white tin smells much nicer than the the one Gold tin.

Over40Overdating · 18/02/2024 08:21

@LoftyAndWendyJoinTheCrew sorry to hear about your treatment and hope it goes well.

Also sorry the dementors have descended to try to suck the joy out of things. There’s a real trend on MN right now for people who are clearly miserable & nasty to feel better about themselves by shitting on others. Attention just encourages them.

As for the ‘no one is interested’ that’s obviously such a lie : gossips forums and tabloids would not exist if no one found celeb lives interesting and I know from when I worked in that world EVERYONE wants to know the gossip! And because so many of them are mad it does make for interesting anecdotes!

Maireas · 18/02/2024 08:28

I hope your treatment goes well, OP 🙏.
You seem to have met many lovely celebrities and must have good memories.

Cazziebo · 18/02/2024 08:36

Thanks for the thread, OP. Nice distraction for a Sunday morning!

Daffodownddilly · 18/02/2024 08:38

Good luck with your treatment OP and thanks for the lighthearted thread.

dayswithaY · 18/02/2024 08:48

Wow, this thread took a turn didn’t it? If people aren’t interested they could just…scroll on by, perhaps?

I’ve always wondered, with situations like George Clooney who may or may not have a secret boyfriend living next door in Lake Como - why don’t the press expose them? If it’s an open secret among celebs and their staff, why wouldn’t they follow them, get photos, etc?

RampantIvy · 18/02/2024 08:52

IdaPrentice · 17/02/2024 23:16

I can't believe that even on a relatively light-hearted thread about celebs, some posters are sniping and making nasty comments and put-downs.

Actually on second thoughts, I can believe it.

I agree. I have enjoyed reading it. This faux, supercilious "I'm not interested in famous people" is boring. Why bother posting on this thread?

LoftyAndWendyJoinTheCrew · 17/02/2024 20:12

@ColleenDonaghy

Jenson button, who was probably the most lovely celeb I've ever met. Fascinating guy. And also Damon Hill, he was great too. Very professional, but very personable.

I've met Damon, such a lovely man. Glad JB22 is nice cos I actually love him 💕

Sususudio · 18/02/2024 09:20

Really sorry to hear about your health OP. Good luck with your treatment.

I am not ashamed to say I like a bit of celeb gossip. Makes a change from the grim headlines and CoL. Such miseries on here.

lol this old bag whos never had to do a days work in her life & so lets face it... hasnt "doesnt suffer fool's" ?!? like is that just a fancy way of saying she doesnt put up with people who she feels wastes her time?/is beneath her?/isnt as smart as her

like seriously when has this woman ever had to actually deal with a 'fool' who wasnt put in front of her purely due to status (her own!) & circumstance (theres)

In answer to your question, maybe when she escaped a kidnap attempt in the 70’s?!

Maireas · 18/02/2024 09:35

.....at gunpoint!

pictoosh · 18/02/2024 09:55

I don't give a toss about celebrity gossip and I've enjoyed this thread. OP is very pleasant.

The clumsy 'I'm more celebrity than you' disruption has given me a good, solid eyeroll too. Heh.

Good thread. Would recommend.
