Wow, this thread took a turn didn’t it? If people aren’t interested they could just…scroll on by, perhaps?

I’ve always wondered, with situations like George Clooney who may or may not have a secret boyfriend living next door in Lake Como - why don’t the press expose them? If it’s an open secret among celebs and their staff, why wouldn’t they follow them, get photos, etc?

I often wondered this too? The tabloid press usually love exposés and salacious headlines. So why not out George Clooney if it’s true and well known? (Not that I approve of outing people! Just wondering why they wouldn’t as they aren’t know for their morals!)

GreenLaurel · 18/02/2024 10:02

I’ve enjoyed this thread too, and thanks for answering my question. Glad to hear Andy has a good rep, he seems v down to earth. The celebrity world is a million miles from what I do and I’m enjoying the peek inside the world.

Good luck with your treatment OP x

CheeseSandwichRiskAssessment · 18/02/2024 10:09

George Clooney did try sueing or agitating for greater protections against the paparazzi in the 90s. There were rumours his girlfriends had time limited contracts with some kind of benefit to them, like Tom Cruise and his wives.

Imagine a story now though "George is gay" running in the mainstream press, it would be seen as outdated and homophobic and probably get a lot of backlash. When he married Amal some thought it was because he had political ambitions and you need to be a family man for that.

I find it really sad that actors and other people in the public eye still hide these things. But I suppose with some of them, they are in so deep, that to get out, would need a whole load of explaining.

I wonder if it is their managers, reps etc who are paranoid about this? Who would care these days if an actor was gay? I don't even think anyone in China etc ( which is the usual excuse for closeting actors) would care about the actor. It would be more the portrayal on screen of a gay character, an even then, are they really that bothered? It seems mainly Hollywood execs who are worried. The actual countries would just cut the scene they didn't like.

  1. She had police guards round the clock since childhood. It's absolute basic knowlege to never go with somebody trying to kidnap you (look up - "secondary crime scene") obviously somebody out on the streets with no support will natural panic/try & save themselves by keeping the situation calm but somebody well prepared should know better

  2. it was fergie/everyone who was compared to Diana & Diana was nowhere near as popular as people make out until she died

Police guards were only introduced after Princess Anne’s kidnap attempt.
Security was surprisingly low before that incident.

She stood up to a man with 2 guns, who’d already shot her bodyguard, and refused to be intimidated.

"Get in the car"
"Not bloody likely!" 💪

The papers exposed Philip S, so why wouldn't that expose George and Leo if it's true?

Liking this thread OP, thanks for starting it.

CheeseSandwichRiskAssessment · 18/02/2024 10:30

Erm Philip was targeting teenage boys and exploiting a significant power dynamic ?

DishonourOnYouDishonourOnYourCow · 18/02/2024 10:37

Did you ever meet Alan sugar?

Yes they don't just out people for being gay nowadays. They may want to, but they know there would be a backlash. I presume it was an open secret for many years that Scohfield was gay but married to a woman. It was the exploitation of a younger much more lowly colleague that was what the story was about ( even though I suspect the tabloids didnt' give a toss about that, it did give them the excuse to print 'Philip Scohfield is Gay!' storyline.

Oh yes. That makes more sense now Blush

Rocketmenareoverrated · 18/02/2024 10:51

You’ve barely named anyone. A pointless thread.

Over40Overdating · 18/02/2024 10:57

@dayswithaY re George and other closeted celebs, there’s generally an unspoken agreement with the media that no one will be forcibly outed any more, unless, like PS and Kevin Spacey, there is an exploitative or dark element to their behaviour which relies on that unspoken agreement keeping the behaviour under wraps. Those two particularly are extremely nasty examples of how far that agreement can be stretched & still be respected even by the lowest of tabloids.
Huw Edwards is a an example of that agreement being breached unfairly & the repercussions for those who ok’d the story have been steep & will be steeper if HE ever decides to take action.

Unfortunately there is still a deep seam of homophobia, especially in the US, which would mean that coming out, especially as a male actor who relies on leading man roles, would destroy their career.

There are more closeted high profile actors than you might imagine and while many do make arrangements with others in their life so they can be themselves privately & live happily under the radar, for some, particularly any involved in a high profile organisation masquerading as a religion, it is more like a prison sentence. Albeit one with unimaginable luxury.

CheeseSandwichRiskAssessment · 18/02/2024 11:01

There's plenty of homophobia everywhere. How many Premier League footballers can you name who are out as gay @Over40Overdating ?

Over40Overdating · 18/02/2024 11:06

@CheeseSandwichRiskAssessment as I didn’t work in sport I can’t speak to numbers or arrangements but imagine it’s the same toxic masculinity at play.

My experience is directly in entertainment and in the US particularly, a leading man coming out as gay, even today, is considered career suicide.

For all that the arts are considered a safe space for gay people, when it comes to big money, it’s as homophobic as it’s ever been.

GellerYeller · 18/02/2024 11:30

For the PP who mentioned paps on the tarmac, you would hope, for security reasons that isn’t happening?!
There was a behind the scenes series at Heathrow some years ago and they had a couple of resident photographers who were based there.
A friend had an interaction in her job with a global star at the time she was first coming to prominence, years ago.
She said it was the entourage who were pushy and demanding, even towards the celebrity. Makeup artist poking at them, managers barking itinerary details at them, not being polite to the staff etc. The star seemed embarrassed and close to tears so my friend gave her a little maternal hand squeeze.

Daffodilsandtuplips · 18/02/2024 08:21

I’ve enjoyed your thread OP.
and hope your treatment is successful.
It’s been a nice distraction for me too, after eight hours at an urology clinic with DH after a worrying two weeks of catheters and antibiotics for a little bastard of an infection that didn’t give up without a fight. E Coli.

@Witchinawell The typo bj made me laugh out loud yesterday, considering which part of DH’s anatomy was involved at the Urology clinic.

I’ve nothing more to add apart from discovering Ellnett hairspray in the white tin smells much nicer than the the one Gold tin.

Sorry to derail the thread - @Daffodilsandtuplips is it a private urology clinic. I'm having a real problem with an infection and not getting help I need on nhs. Just wondered where it is. Hope your dh is ok.
OP - enjoying the thread.

HalleLouja · 18/02/2024 11:39

OP sorry to have derailed your thread into talking closeted gay stars. That wasn’t my intention.

My friend enjoyed her role which was probably similar to yours and it gave her an opportunity to move into something more inline with what she had done pre-kids.

3luckystars · 18/02/2024 11:48

So, anyway, to get back on topic, what about Harry Styles? Did you ever meet him???

It might be here but in the US and Hollywood it would be career suicide.

The US is not a progressive country.
Pray the gay away anyone…..

ArthurWrightus · 17/02/2024 19:09

I'm presuming from your comments you've had the same experience as me with celebs. The bigger they are, actually the nicer they are? And the influencers and hardly famous are much more 'affected' and treat people poorly.

I think that’s true in “real life” too. If you’re in a big company, for example, and you ever meet top management, they make an effort to be nice to people and don’t act like they’re too important to bother with manners. It’s the ones in the middle, with some power, but not REAL power, that treat you like you’re not worth pissing on.

User19798 · 18/02/2024 12:36

I meet loads of celebrities thru work and I have no NDA and nor do any of my staff - and we go in their homes and spend a lot of time with their children. Not everyone is that level - only very very few are.

IfYouLikedItThenYou · 18/02/2024 13:14

@LoftyAndWendyJoinTheCrew Once again Queen Latifah in the House ...

If this is AMA, here are my questions please could you answer them:

If I wanted to find a boyfriend who had the sort of money to fly me from a private airport, where would you suggest I go/what should I do?

Were there any common threads you discerned amongst the celebrities in terms of character? (as in having observed them would you say that certain type of characteristics/behaviours are more likely to lead to celebrity than others)

  • *you left out the part where another security guard heard the gun shot & came to the rescue & that the royals had round the clock protection after the IRA/provos & there supporters managed to shoot queen Victoria's son & blow up Prince Philips family in NI

She hardly fought them tooth & nail until she was able to run to Buckingham palace all fairy tale style & lock her herself in till a the man had disappeared into thick fog

How cowardly of her, an unarmed woman against a man with a gun.
