Following on from the questions being raised around this over the past couple of days.

I left school in 2017.

Did you wear pink on Wednesdays?

TomatoSandwiches · 28/08/2023 14:19

Is this a joke?

Potatomashed · 28/08/2023 14:19

This is so fetch

backinthebox · 28/08/2023 14:19

Good for you. 🙄

Gellhell · 28/08/2023 14:20

Do you agree that popularity is a subjective construct?

Iamacatslave · 28/08/2023 14:20

Did you play netball?

CauldronOfLove · 28/08/2023 14:22

The ‘popular’ girls in my school used to go around bullying other girls and then eventually turned on each other (a massive fist fight in the sports field).

Did you and your mates go around bullying others? No judgement of you now, just curious 👀

MiddleParking · 28/08/2023 14:22

Are you fat and poor now? My understanding from many threads on the subject is that popular schoolchildren primarily exist so their peers can post on mumsnet about how fat and poor they are later revealed (at reunions etc) to be in comparison to the author thereof.

Applesaarenttheonlyfruit · 28/08/2023 14:24

What is your definition of popular? I find this a strange concept as it wasn’t a thing when I was at school.

TheAloe · 28/08/2023 14:24

@Gellhell

True. I remember leaving and meeting up with old school associates and them telling me I was popular. I absolutely wasn’t. Not in my mind anyway.

Personally I’m just happy to have left school with my integrity intact. I wasn’t a bully and I wasn’t unkind and that’s all that matters to me now as an adult. I still live in the same city and it’s amazing how many people I meet up with again via life. My sons grassroots football coach happened to be in my year for example. I’m just glad I wasn’t a horrible person.

DramaAlpaca · 28/08/2023 14:25

We wouldn't have been friends then!

Acornsoup · 28/08/2023 14:25

Are you still popular now OP?

Cowlover89 · 28/08/2023 14:26

🙄

WhateverMate · 28/08/2023 14:27

Is this thread a piss take? I can't quite work it out 🤣🤣

Stop trying to make fetch happen @Potatomashed 🙄 urg as if!

Is this a joke?

I completely understand how this comes across.

I started the thread because I've seen the topic over the past few days. Especially parents worrying about their children and not understanding the social workings of schools these days.

Being "popular" in school meant nothing then and means nothing now.

I get why people are rolling their eyes but I promise this isn't as twatish as it sounds.

Only in PE. I wasn't on the team.

No, I didn't bully anyone and neither did my friends.

I'm not fat or poor.

What made you 'popular'? As in how do you define that?

MichelleScarn · 28/08/2023 14:30

How did you 'know' you were popular?

user76541055773 · 28/08/2023 14:30

What would you define as popular?

I remember different people being popular with different groups for different circumstances (clubs, hobbies etc) rather than the American teen-movie cliche type of popular, but maybe some schools do really have just one small group of “popular kids”.

Dungareejack · 28/08/2023 14:30

Did you create this thread just so you could eat a massive salad and moan about your responses on another forum? 😊
