Following on from the questions being raised around this over the past couple of days.

I left school in 2017.

Are you still popular now OP?

I think the definition of popular is different when you're in school, compared to adulthood.

I have friends and would like to think I'm well liked. Definitely a smaller circle of friends now and recently I've been keeping to myself mostly.

So, er, how did you know your group was popular? Was there a vote? Or were you just popular with each other within the group? Like a Mutual Appreciation Society.

This is weird.

myr · 28/08/2023 14:31

Our group was referred to as "the populars" and not by us.

It's of course incredibly cringey to look back on for me!

How do you know you were in the popular group at school? How is it defined?

Jntprcsbllyngcnt · 28/08/2023 14:32

Did you andcyour group of friends pick on the less popular? If so, you definitely would have picked on me.

I completely understand how this comes across.

I started the thread because I've seen the topic over the past few days. Especially parents worrying about their children and not understanding the social workings of schools these days.

Being "popular" in school meant nothing then and means nothing now.

I get why people are rolling their eyes but I promise this isn't as twatish as it sounds.

Are you currently in school then?

And do you really think worried parents are going to stop worrying because a random on the internet says so? 🤦‍♀️

No, never.

I was lucky to go to a pretty friendly school, beyond year 7 and 8 everyone was generally pleasant.

Of course there were issues but nothing major. Staff said they'd never had such a lovely, stress-free head group.

This thread is incredibly cringey so clearly embarrassment isn't something the bothers you Blush

ActDottie · 28/08/2023 14:38

Lol

GeneJeanie · 28/08/2023 14:39

I think I understand where you’re coming from OP. What do you think made your group “the populars”, as opposed to just another friendship group?

Also, how many of you were there?

Sorry, thought of a third question - what roles did you see people take on?

egowise · 28/08/2023 14:41

Which mlm are you a member of?

You say you didn't bully anyone, but I don't believe you.

No, it isn't done thing that bothers me actually

Whatswhatwhichiswhich · 28/08/2023 14:43

Why do you think you were part of the popular group? You’ve said only others referred to you as that which sounds an awful lot like they were taking the piss out of you more than anything else. The “popular” group wasn’t actually popular when I was at school, they were a bunch of pricks that bullied their way through school. DD is in high school now and reports the same, popular means bullying prick not someone well liked.

Blinkinbloodyhayfever · 28/08/2023 14:44

What are you hoping people will ask you? I'm not sure what you want to achieve by this thread apart from a humble brag about how clever and pretty you were? Not having a go because you might have been perfectly pleasant, but the "popular girls" when I was at school, and certainly the same for my dd, were a spiteful little crowd, who got their own way, and used their pretty privilege to undermine and bully everyone else.

SquashPenguin · 28/08/2023 14:46

The ‘popular’ girls in my year were vile. They made mine and others lives miserable.

myr · 28/08/2023 14:47

This thread has clearly offended people, for which I am sorry.

In view of this I won't continue to post or respond so as not to upset anyone else.

I am not a bully and never have been. Quite the opposite actually.

Thanks everyone!

Ah that's nice, were you a bitch as that's how I remember 'those' girls!

WhateverMate · 28/08/2023 14:50

I'm pretty sure most people are amused rather than offended.

But using the word 'offended' makes it look like they're the ones with a problem.

pimplebum · 28/08/2023 14:51

What questions did you expect to be asked ?

Poudretteite · 28/08/2023 14:58

I expect most people on the thread will have been at school themselves and have some knowledge of these mythical popular people, in 2017 or otherwise

boobies1234 · 28/08/2023 14:58

If you were as nice and friendly as you say, then there wouldn't have been a popular group would there.
What job do you do now? Were you queen bee? Are you all still in touch?

VivX · 28/08/2023 14:58

This is such a bizarre OP. What were you hoping people would ask?

At my school there were different groups. I guess there was a "trendy" group but there were plenty of "not-trendy" people who also had lots of friends.

Personally, I feel that being intrinsically happy from within is a much better than being (somewhat subjectively) "popular".

Fallingthroughclouds · 28/08/2023 15:00

Is this some form of tourettes?

Drews · 28/08/2023 15:10

What's the weather like op?
