Following on from our epic first thread I had a breast reduction

We are a group of ladies who have breast reductions for a number of reasons and are all at different stages of recovery.

I had a breast reduction AMA | Mumsnet

I had a breast reduction two weeks ago. I’ve gone from a 34GG/H to a 34D. Crack on with any questions!

I went to get a mug out of the cupboard and after reaching up a little I thought “nope” 😂 I’ll spend the next few days worrying that I’ve popped the stitches just by existing (I felt the same last time I had surgery), so I’ll definitely be taking it very easy with the lifting and doing things.
I’m struggling to get comfy on the sofa now so will head to bed soon.

LilyGlobe · 02/10/2023 20:52

How would I know if there ever was an issue though? I’ve got dressings and a bra on, it’s not easy to tell. I guess pain?

Heartfullofcheese · 02/10/2023 22:23

Your body will tell you when to stop, well, mine did. I had one real “ow that wasn’t good” moment but it was fine. You’ll be well taped.
I found I could reach a reasonable amount after 48 hours.
It’s major surgery though. Snuggle down with Netflix and some biscuits.

LilyGlobe · 02/10/2023 23:00

That’s good advice, thank you! I definitely feel tighter and more uncomfortable as the evening goes on. I wouldn’t say I’m in much pain, which is good. I am going to take the oramorph for tonight though, I want to sleep and I know that’ll help.

I’m all done! Having tea and biscuits, leaving here at 4. Back Monday for dressing change and lympathic drainage.
Feel really good though!

Another foot soldier in the troop! Well done, so exciting! Now sit down and DO NOTHING. Actual nothing, not 'oh I'll just sort this out then sit down'. Sort nothing out. No reaching, no turning, no leaning down. Just be.

LilyGlobe · 03/10/2023 09:31

I’m still in bed, have had 2 cups of tea delivered to me but I’m going to move to the sofa soon to watch some trash on Netflix.
I only got 2hrs sleep for some reason, but I’m not in much pain. I’m swollen and a bit uncomfortable though. Will nap throughout the day I reckon.
I promise I will do nothing today (except a tiny bit of work on the laptop - I have to send someone an invoice because I forgot to do it on Friday! 😂)

Madagascary · 03/10/2023 16:11

Just remembered this morning another weird thing about having a reduction is that when you cross your arms over your chest, you suddenly realise that you do it differently because there’s not so much chest there!!

MorrisZapp · 03/10/2023 18:47

I found it so hard to sleep at first! Getting much better now but just grab some zzzs whenever your eyelids drift down, don't worry about night and day.

Heartfullofcheese · 03/10/2023 21:46

I didn’t sleep for ages. Couldn’t even nap. For some reason I felt really wired for the first couple of weeks. I think the general messed with me. Hope you got some naps in @LilyGlobe
3 pack of M and S bralettes. £18 I think. I can’t get over it. I’m discovering options that just were never a thing I could consider 😊

LilyGlobe · 03/10/2023 21:50

No naps! Also feel wired. It’s so strange!

Madagascary · 03/10/2023 22:05

In the pink obv

goingtotown · 04/10/2023 09:06

Anyone had the surgery in Herts/Essex who would recommend.

Singletrackmind · 04/10/2023 13:39

Yup arm folding under rather than ‘across’ boobs 😂
The M&S flex fit bras are nice & soft + I’ve just bought some of their ‘good move’ sports bralets which are lovely & totally fine for everyday.
@goingtotown re. surgeon recommendations get yourself on the UK breast reduction Facebook groups … you’ll get plenty of advice there too.

When my boobs finally give up and deflate, will I have stretch marks? Skin feels so tight just now.

Managed a wee side snuggle nap though so that's progress. I was 34g before and currently fitting 34dd in the same range of bras, although it is SO WEIRD laying the bra across my boobs instead of using it to scoop them up 😂

Notooserious · 04/10/2023 17:42

Mine have started to soften (aka sag) but no stretch marks other than the ones that were already there. I think they just make the skin taut but not stretched.

Madagascary · 04/10/2023 19:36

@MorrisZapp yes. No leaning forward or scooping. The lift part of a BR us ace

Madagascary · 04/10/2023 19:37

If you don’t already, guys, my advice would be ready to use this as a chance to relaunch an exercise routine,

remember I booked in with a personal trainer?, it was to tell me what I was doing, and not having to worry about feeling self-conscious it’s just so liberating!!

. So use this as a chance to change.

LilyGlobe · 04/10/2023 21:30

I’m missing the gym already! I see a PT once/twice a week and go 2-3 times on my own. Cannot wait to get back in there, hopefully wearing some nicer fits!

I’ve had a good day today. Did the school run, went to parents evening and got a little bit of work done. Have had a really good wash too. Had so much energy! Dropped the painkillers down too. Have spent the evening resting and just feel so happy. This is life changing.

Singletrackmind · 04/10/2023 21:39

Yup mine are softening but no sag yet … love that laying of the bra description!!! Totally that. Absolutely on the gym … back in there but going super steady & things feel different in a good way.
@LilyGlobe are you super human or summat?

LilyGlobe · 04/10/2023 22:29

😂 no, but I had a foot op last year and the recovery from that was bloody awful. I’ve never felt pain like it so in comparison, this isn’t as bad! I plan on taking it super easy tomorrow though.

thelonghaul · 05/10/2023 00:43

Hi, just posted in another thread but thought I'd try this one too.

Looking for some help to know what size compression/post op bra to buy. One site suggested buy to current size to allow for swelling. I'm hoping to drop from an G to a C (hopefully) or D.

Any suggestions, please?

Heartfullofcheese · 05/10/2023 05:33

They will give you a compression bra after the operation - a lot of places give you two, so I wouldn’t worry now. The bras go by band size but have cups that are flexible so go by that.
The Macom bras seem to be the best. The Theya ones are what I had and are very soft and comfy - they just come in s/m/l.

Madagascary · 05/10/2023 06:16

I had to buy my own Macom. It was tiny. I never believed it would fit.
I got a red one! Sold on vinted later.
