Following on from our epic first thread I had a breast reduction

We are a group of ladies who have breast reductions for a number of reasons and are all at different stages of recovery.

I had a breast reduction AMA | Mumsnet

I had a breast reduction two weeks ago. I’ve gone from a 34GG/H to a 34D. Crack on with any questions!

So I’m planning on going back to the gym this week for a little cycling and leg weights. He told me no swimming till Oct but that’s not long so I will be looking for a nice cozzie for my nice boobs.

MorrisZapp · 17/09/2023 13:04

Still tired and very swollen but with hope in my heart ♥️

I have a second wound review this Thursday and I'm hoping they remove the surgical tape as its driving me mad.

Taking off the dressings last week left me with sticky bits and I have to peel my bra off carefully each day.

Itching kicking in but it's manageable. Oh for a fast forward button! I've nicked the pads out of another bra and I pop them in for extra armour when I go outside 😊

Heartfullofcheese · 17/09/2023 17:10

Fingers crossed @MorrisZapp !
a second bra helps the vulnerable feeling- I popped a crop top over initially.
This bit is hard. I think once all the tape etc is gone you start feeling a bit less “surgeried”.
Do you feel happy with them?

MorrisZapp · 17/09/2023 18:56

I love my new landscape and can't wait to get excited! So much to look forward to. Meanwhile I'm on the sofa, totally washed out because I popped to the local shops. Hoping for enough energy to watch the Woman in the Wall later.

Singletrackmind · 17/09/2023 20:25

@Heartfullofcheese sounds good!
I’m on week 3 of my gradual gym return… taking it steady
@MorrisZapp early days … just take it easy & chill, sleep, potter about. Lots to look forward to!

MorrisZapp · 20/09/2023 20:48

My boss got wind of my op and refunded my annual leave! He said it counted as sick, I can't believe it! I was too embarrassed to ask as it was an elective, private surgery. I'm over the blimmin moon with that and regret not taking longer

My tapes are driving me insane but they come off tomorrow then I'm going for lunch with DP. Roll on the weekend!

How's everyone else doing?

user80 · 21/09/2023 07:24

@MorrisZapp that’s wonderful news! So pleased for you. I didn’t tell my work what I had done but just told them it was surgery and no issues. I don’t think they’re allowed to ask for any further details, and my surgeon just wrote “planned surgery” on my sick note.
Now to plan a lovely break with your bonus annual leave! 🙌🏻

Madagascary · 21/09/2023 07:38

How exciting! And great news about boss. How did they find out?!

H is doing laundry and just put “your tiny bras” to dry on the radiator.

lol

Singletrackmind · 21/09/2023 08:57

@MorrisZapp well that’s a total win 😀
what are people doing about scar treatment? I have the silicon gel which I’m using in the eve after a shower & the bio oil stuff that I’ve not used yet.

Heartfullofcheese · 21/09/2023 12:24

I got some scar tape which I’m using on the worst bits (the sides) and the drain scars. Other than that just Dove baby so far. I do have bio oil but not keen on it for some reason.
@MorrisZapp that’s fantastic news! My boss said I could have done it in term but I couldn’t have coped with school after 2 weeks so I’m glad I didn’t. She said there were sound medical reasons which is true.

I love having tiny bras. Could have used my old ones to sleep a family…

Madagascary · 21/09/2023 13:50

I couldn’t work out what to do with the scar tape. I used two tubes of the special swanky scar cream, then just use moisturiser. I’m not convinced it makes a difference but I thought it did.

MorrisZapp · 21/09/2023 14:33

I've heard that a basic occlusive cream works as well as anything else so I'm planning to use an aveeno healing cream when the time comes.

Just back from the 'ozzy, lovely Trish the nurse gave me a very kind bollocking for doing too much too soon. I've to sit on my arse and shut up for the foreseeable 😂 left boob tender and swollen so we're keeping an eye on it.

Tapes don't come off til next week, boo hoo, but she explained how much the dried blood helps healing so I'll suck that one up.

I've to apply a paraffin cream to my tapes the night before removal, it stains everything but washes out.

It was my gobshite workmate who blabbed to the boss re my surgery so I'm going to buy him a home keg of his favourite beer to say thanks 🍻🤣

Anyway I've got today off and Cat Ballou is on this afternoon so I'm on operation chill the goddamn beans.

MorrisZapp · 21/09/2023 14:39

And my lunch with DP was a steakbake and a cup of tea in the shopping centre carpark but it was perfect 😂👌

Madagascary · 21/09/2023 15:02

Yes, please stop doing stuff you’ve got the rest of your life to sashay around with tiny tits. You must not get an infection

Singletrackmind · 21/09/2023 19:45

Slow down Mauriceeeeee … early days and all that. I was defo back at work too soon with hindsight … another week would have helped massively. 7 in weeks and I can still feel plenty of swelling & tightness, especially at the end of a long day. Thx for scar treatment thoughts everyone. Think I’ll get through this gel I have & switch over to the bio stuff after, I also have the cream … belt and braces 😂

Notooserious · 21/09/2023 20:09

I’m supposed to be using the silicone gel stuff but honestly apart from the ‘ole, my scars are so thin and unnoticeable even 12 weeks in that I’m not bothering! Fortunately the pesky hole now looks pretty much just a bit of pink skin rather than something I once pulled a foot long dripping side tape out of… 🥳

Madagascary · 21/09/2023 20:43

@Singletrackmind I went back after two. What were you?

Singletrackmind · 21/09/2023 20:53

@Madagascary just under 2 as op was late on Tuesday 1st Aug & I was back at work Mon 14th. It was doable but actually looking back another week wld have been MUCH better!

Burtiscute · 22/09/2023 12:16

Glad to hear that everyone is healing well, and interesting to hear about how the scars are looking at different stages.

Mine are looking much better now at 12 weeks post op. Just very thin pink lines on the boobs, but underneath are alot wider and darker still.

My fat necrosis hole has finally healed and no more discharge, it looks a little strange as it's on the outer areola and as it's quite pink it gives the nipple a odd shape. Hoping it will heal and the dip will fill out.

Seeing my surgeon next week and wondering if this will be the last time.
Not really sure how often is normal to see your surgeon as my recovery wasn't straight forward.

Forgot to ask earlier on in the thread about back pain. If you suffered before your op, did it go away after? Mine is still there but much less and I'm hoping now I'm healed I can work on my posture to help it.

Madagascary · 22/09/2023 13:41

I had upper back/ lower neck pain that I thought was due to me hunching but probably now was boobs

I think I saw my surgeon as late as April and I had the op in November

Notooserious · 22/09/2023 14:54

I’ve got my last follow up in January - surgery was end of June. But saw him pretty much weekly for about a month as every time he was in the building for a clinic and I had a dressing change with a nurse arranged he popped in to check it.

Weekly? 😳

Notooserious · 23/09/2023 08:48

I was having the dressings changed 3
times a week…it was a bit of a clusterfuck and he was wanting to keep a very tight eye on it.

Heartfullofcheese · 23/09/2023 10:40

I’m glad it’s all sorting itself out now @Notooserious
The last of my un healed bits is now looking pink and unscabby suddenly. I still feel like there’s some chunks of inside that need to sort themselves out but it’s still only 7 weeks.
Unable to pass a mirror without checking them out and smiling at them. First time EVER I’ve felt like that. 8k well spent then. Desperate to book a holiday so I can lie by a pool feeling normal. In a bikini that hasn’t cost £80 odd…going to be fabulous.

MorrisZapp · 23/09/2023 13:09

Bra price paradox! It's unlikely I'll break even on my eight grand investment but each affordable bra from a normal shop will bring me untold joy and yes, bargainous hand rubbing 😁
