Being a SAHM seems to be such an issue to a lot of people on here so feel free to AMA šŸ˜…

A SAHM once told me that a mother's place is at home with her children and mother's shouldn't work. As a SAHM would you agree with that statement?

Surprised by the number of people treating OP like an exhibit at the zoo. I know tons of SAHMs and they’re as varied as working mums šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø

I know! I'm dubious about the OP's reasons for starting this thread but some if the replies - you're a scrounger whose partner is going to dump you - are bonkers.

I find it so ridiculous that the system allows people to not plan for the future whatsoever because they know the state (taxpayer) will pick up the pieces in retirement.

Nothing wrong with a SAHM but what's quite shocking with this OP is that she's not considering the implications of both her future and if her relationship breaks down that she'd be entitled to nothing at all, and she is just šŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø about her financial security present and future

Sure- the questions that surprised me were those asking OP (as the disabled mother of a toddler) what she does all day or asking her whether she agrees with something said by another woman who happens also to be a SAHM. Just very ofd.

The people giving her a kick for receiving disability benefits have also been fairly unpleasant although sadly not surprising.

@DietCokeUser
Seeing as this is aimed directly at me.... It is an AMA thread! This is the only question I asked... I was wondering if her values were the same as my friend who is also a SAHM as it is a value directly related to being a SAHM. I don't know what is odd about it?? My wording was perhaps a little formal but I was genuinely just asking a Q I was interested in hearing the answer to, there was no ill intent in my Q! šŸ™„

@Annonymousse22 - you could work part time a few weeks then need a few months off?! But you're capable of being a full time mum - doesn't make sense - if you can be a mum why can't you have a job that's not taxing on your body without the need for all that sickness - you're contradicting yourself

It’s her life, she decides what’s best for her, not you.

Whatifthegrassisblue · 24/06/2023 08:52

Do you enjoy it? I am too, but I really don't enjoy it. I don't mind a couple of hours but I find the whole day too much. I feel a SAHM is mostly housework and not actually spending quality time with your child
