Wow, legit thought I'd do this post as before I did this job I had no idea how it all worked and genuinely thought people may be interested or want to ask questions. Getting a lot aggressive judgement and abuse..
I don't take my clothes off. I'm not a pushy sales person. I'm very passionate about my field of expertise and have shared that on socials and it's grown unexpectedly. It's actually really challenged my self-confidence and has been a really empowering journey which has given me financial independence and buisness skills. For all the woman on these boards that bang on about female empowerment, not judging others, letting any woman be who she wants to be .. you equally have a way of tearing other women down.
So I'm outta here...

Oh that's a shame. I was genuinely interested! And wondering if you were a horse account as my dd loves them.

Also the absolute irony of people posting bollocks on a forum all day laying into someone who's managed to make a career out of it.

Rapunzel22 · 20/02/2023 15:34

Is it guinea pigs?

TheDailyCarbunkle · 20/02/2023 15:34

@Mrseven - the 'next thing' is going back to a more traditional advertising model. Facebook, IG and all other social media platforms are advertisers, they're essentially fulfilling the same function as tv and print media used to fulfil in terms of getting the word out about products via other content. The ability to build a business as a lone person will lessen as bigger companies start to implement the more 'old-fashioned' advertising model once again - big accounts, big numbers, professional ads etc. Tech just reinvents the wheel and presents it as something new and shiny over and over. It all turns out the same in the end.

NotAnotherBathBomb · 20/02/2023 15:36

Also OP I know you've flounced but in case you're still reading, I do think a bit more info on the work that you do would have been helpful. I think people hear influencer and immediately think of Mrs Hinch or a tiktokker flogging makeup and don't realise how wide and varied the area can be.

Sadlifter · 20/02/2023 15:36

Some of the posts in this thread are awful. You should be ashamed of yourselves. I'd rather my dds watched someone who recommends a horse brush on Instagram then read the absolute bullying shit posted on here.

You mean, paid-for ads on social media? Is that more cost effective than throwing a few freebies to an influencer and reaching hundreds of thousands of people who are actively interested in the product and more likely to trust the promoter?

Is Mrs Hinch not successful?

Well she probably would have got round to it if she hadn't received a lot of gobby abuse.

Of course it isn't.

I'm sure she cries about it on her way to discuss her next product line!

Being an influencer is the same as being involved in an MLM to me. Distasteful.

Sadlifter · 20/02/2023 15:46

Are a lot of these posters blokes? I can't get my head round the venom otherwise.

OP, you posted on MN. People are salty as fuck towards influencers for some bizzare reason.

Not sure if most of you have IG (which I’m guessing probably not due to some of these stupid comments), but most influencers started out as a normal page. They may have posted pics of themselves or maybe their page was full of their hobbies etc.

Over many years they gain a certain amount of followers. These influencers aren’t begging people to follow them, people just are. Brands then recognise these people and ask to collab or will pay them to post certain things etc.

Not sure why people on here are so miserable😂 there’s one influencer called 6kenza who just started out posting pictures of herself for her own personal profile. Nearly 6/7 years later she has 1M followers for simply being pretty and posting pictures constantly.

Actually writing this, I think most people are salty that some people have managed to get the best out of social media. It’s just like youtubers. So many have gained hundreds/thousands/even millions of followers just from posting content that people seemed to be interested in. It’s not really difficult to understand

Do you ever buy magazines or watch itv? You must really struggle.

Why? People sign up to see your content. It's less intrusive than a billboard in a public place. If you don't want to see it, you don't have to.

I’d LOVE for you to explain how. Influencers are paid by brands to post. How is that anywhere near a MLM?

TheDailyCarbunkle · 20/02/2023 15:47

One example is streaming platforms including ads (proper, acted ads) in programmes, rather than making people subscribe. It's a much better way to generate income as more popular programmes can command big audiences and therefore a lot more revenue. There is also a growing realisation that personalisation (showing people ads tailored to their preferences) has limited value because people end up seeing the same thing over and over - the classic situation being when you buy shoes then see the shoes advertised everywhere - you're hardly going to buy them again straight away so that advertising spend is being wasted.

Traditionally advertising worked based on the content - good newspapers sold big on ads because people paid to the read the news and then got advertised at while they were doing it. Newer media is 'relearning' that lesson, very slowly and is drifting towards a more old fashioned media format where someone makes the decisions about what content to present (as opposed to the fairly random free for all of SM) and then includes advertising within that. It's a good business model that's worked for a long time, so it makes sense.

Depends what the content posted is but most times followers are young women who are close in age to me. So early 20s, even late teens
