I am a long time user lured back here after being disillusioned by a particularly horrible thread.
Anyway, as I say, I’m from Wigan. If anyone is remotely interested, ask away.

My brother did his A levels at Wigan Tech where they did them in a year. He became a Barrister and eventually a QC and was proud to put in his entry in Who's Who 'Educated at Wigan Technical an Mining College'.

I did! Waaay back in the days when pubs finished at 11, we'd pile in a taxi to 'ximes every Friday closing time 🤩

Southport rock venue Saturday

The thought of 3 big nights out in a week now makes me feel a bit tired🤣

I thought Pimbletts were THE pies? According to my mates DH (but he's from Ashton).

The other poster said everyone wears only black or exercise gear - did the council bring in a local by-law to make that happen? Is there a strict border where you can cross to wear regular clothes in other colours?

I remember going to Wigan Pier when I was in school - they did some Victorian schooling thing that was weird

@Livpool the video they showed at the start while queuing, of the school playground with kids dressed as Victorian's playing with Victorian toys was filmed at my primary school and my DB was in it playing with a spinning top 😂

I did the Victorian school thing. It was quite the experience. I remember they had a pretend seaside thing too.

I loved that Victorian school thing! An actor playing the schoolmarm & she told my mum off for chewing gum.
We used to get taken to Wigan to visit friends of my parents and they had a lovely posh house and I loved that trip to the pier - I was maybe a bit over impressed with Brighton’s piers when I saw them a few years later 😁

I used to work there, loved Friday, hated Saturday. Missed out on going to the Tudor as a result, but made up for it at Indie night at The Pier. Was anyone there the night Fat Mark refused to play any more Goth music so they all staged a sit in on the dance floor and had to be bodily carried out? Good times.

Loving this thread. Wigan born and bred but live (all the way) in Lowton now. Went to Winstanley. I bet we were all born in Billinge.
