I am a long time user lured back here after being disillusioned by a particularly horrible thread.
Anyway, as I say, I’m from Wigan. If anyone is remotely interested, ask away.

Pemps was an infamous nightclub where the owner walked up and down the queue and wouldn’t let you in if she didn’t know you .

Pies are a contentious issue. My favourite are Galloway’s party pies but I also like Waterfield’s (from Leigh) meat and potato and Steak. Greenhalgh’s are good too but from Bolton.

There is a pie shop near me and they do pie, mash and peas and I asked for just pie and peas. The owner asked me if I was from Wigan and I said yes. He said he knew that because people from Wigan only ever order pie and peas, never mash.

I was going to ask if I have finally found a fellow Latics fan on MN but see you like Warriors so probably not!

I'm with you on Galloway's pies though, petition to get them in the DW.

I have actually watched Latics a few times but I can’t say I am a fan.

I am from Salford and have family in Hindley and Ince. My grandma was from Goldborne, just for reference.Once I was visiting Hindley and stopped to ask a local something. Honest to god I could not understand a word he said he had such a broad accent.

I love Lancashire accents.

I still have my accent, which a lot of people mistake for a Yorkshire accent (baffling) but I do articulate my words carefully. I have always been very self-conscious about my accent especially in work settings but a friend of mine described it as like a Lancashire female Simon Armitage. I have felt a lot more positive about it since she said that.

I would love to meet Hacker T Dog. I would like him to be my dog’s boyfriend. He is a legend.

We went for a day out to a beauty spot as a kid. Bloody big hill with a view, lake that everyone was paddling in. I’d live to take the kids. Where the bollocks did I go?

There are lots of lovely spots in Wigan and surrounding areas. There a fair few ‘flashes’ which are lakes that occur due to mining subsidence. You may have been at one of them or Worthington Lakes? Somewhere like that.

Or where you a little further out in Rivington? That’s a gorgeous place.

What happened to the Roller Rink? That was awesome

I believe there is still a roller rink in Wigan. Unlike the Nevada in Bolton which burned down.

Oh my god, I had my first Galloways at 8 months pregnant and sent DH back for 2 more meat & potato pasties the heartburn was horrendous and SO WORTH IT.
Washed down with a chocolate eclair!

Roller rink is near the Pier I think. Used to love the paddling pool at Haigh Hall as a kid
