I've been a part-time wedding Registrar for a couple of years and love my job. Happy to answer any questions.

Hi @Loveweddings

I’m getting married next year and even reading this makes me nervous. Do you have any tips?!

DecentPleasant · 19/10/2021 12:37

Love your answers to everything. Thank you. What do you wear? Do you go ‘weddingy’ or more office wear?

Miller2021 · 19/10/2021 12:40

Love your answers, your passion for your job really comes through. What was your favourite wedding you've ever done, and what made it so good?

Yogawankonobi · 19/10/2021 12:50

I loved our registrars! They were supportive, fun and ready for anything! We got married in a field and I really appreciated their willingness to go along with it. They ended up in wellies and had an umbrella ready! They danced to the music as we walked back down the ‘aisle’.

You sound just as fabulous!

Can I ask what attracted you to the role and if you have another job as well?

Our celebrant cried at our wedding! She said it was one of the most moving ones she'd ever done in 25 years Grin

@Loveweddings if you’re still around...

How do you decide what words to use for the ceremony? We had choices for vows and chose our readings etc but when it came to the celebrant bit she started talking about our parents and what a great team they must have been and how they bring us to the wedding together etc. I can’t remember if she checked both my parents were even there, but they are divorced in a very unamicable fashion and as she was talking away I was cringing to death inside!

Do you have a favourite thing you say, do you vary them depending on the couple? It was a lovely service apart from that but I was half worried they were going to start rowing!

Are you married? What made you decide to do this job?

What is the general age of people who do it?

Hi,

I gave notice of marriage. I never changed my name legally so brought all my documents birth certificate provisional ect. They ask if I was known by any other names I presumed they meant just legally known by names but after googling it can mean other names your known. To friends ect and when I was at school I used my mums surname but never officially changed it to this. Is this going to be a problem I did ring registration service and the receptionist said that would be fine. I am not known legally anywhere as my mums surname and never changed legally? Did notice my daughters birth certificate says OTHERWISE known as with my mums surname so I’m confused what I should do?
