32 year old woman, separated, one child, healthcare professional .

I've read the posts about XR on here over the last week

Happy to answer anything, but do keep in mind if I'm arrested again today I may well be out of touch for 24+ hours, and longer if my phone is impounded 😁
@pinktable11 as others have asked the same question, I'll change mine.

What changes have you made to your lifestyle, to reduce your impact on the planet? Are there further changes you plan on making?
I'm not perfect but I do my best, like many people

Cutting right down on diary and meat is the main change, I suppose. They went from daily, to once a week treats, to less than that as I got used to doing without them

Other things, like never owning a car, limiting myself to one child, buying anything I can second hand, especially phones and things like that, have been long term, not new

Do you actually think selfish antics like this will effect climate change?

The world is waking up to CC anyway with the extreme weathers we are having.

You chaining yourself to street furniture achieves nothing.

I've no actual question, except will it affect your job if you are a public sector worker? Job applications etc.

@MaMelon

I see that the easy questions have been answered and the trickier ones glossed over or ignored completely.

I’m finding myself fast losing patience with XR and other eco causes. Last time the XR lot were causing chaos here in Edinburgh I took a stand and didn’t recycle that day Grin. I suspect there’s a lot like me who are now digging their heels in - this kind of protest doesn’t inspire me to do anything to help the cause, in fact quite the opposite.

So your answer to being annoyed with XR was to choose to contaminate the earth a little bit more.

Wow.
MaMelon · 30/08/2021 17:53

Two smartphones on the go? Tut tut - so many resources involved in making them. And the landfill…

MaMelon · 30/08/2021 17:54

Wow indeed.

@Outbutnotoutout

I can't get past the fact an eldery husband wasn't there when his wife passed away in a Bristol hospital because he was held up in traffic for hours because of protesters like you.

You lost any and all support that day.

That's very sad. Had it been known at the time, he would have been escorted through

What solutions do you have to the 'crisis' you claim we are in ? I suspect none. From what I've witnessed this week ER are nothing but a bunch of whiny middle class twats with nothing better to do. Maybe you should come up with some ideas as to how we can help reduce climate change rather than constantly moaning

knittingaddict · 30/08/2021 17:55

@saladcreamandegg

Not really a AMA when you don't answer the questions 🤷‍♀️

I was just about to say the same thing. Are some of these questions too hard for you op or did you think you would just start another ER bunfight using a different mn board?
Notgoingonholiday · 30/08/2021 17:56

Your protests mean my BIL doesn't get back to my Dsis and their 2 little girls because he's a policeman in London. He works longer/different shifts than normal because of the protests and then has to travel home. He certainly doesn't support your cause, and nor do his colleagues.

I have no question to ask, but your groups hypocrisy is sickening.

MurielSpriggs · 30/08/2021 17:57

Uhoh, now you really have declared all-out war on Mumsnet. Do not, for heaven's sake, admit to drinking more than a thimble full of sherry at Christmas Grin

CrazyCatLazy · 30/08/2021 17:57

@Pinktable11 why should somebody have to explain the hardest day in their life to complete strangers, so they can be with their life partner in their deathbed?

Pinktable11 · 30/08/2021 17:57

@nancybotwinbloom

What do you do on your protests? Do you just sit there?

What happens if you need the toilet?

Yes, sit for hours and hours. Avoid drinks before hand. Some situations mean we can have toilet breaks - some don't. Some people wear astronaut style adult nappies. I've never resorted to that yet

@FlowerPower3110

Don't have a question, just want to wish you good luck OP! Smile The level of hatred towards XR on MN is utterly bizarre.

Not really.
Most people think they're a bunch of twats.
Soontobe60 · 30/08/2021 17:58

@knittingaddict

Yes! I have been very well fed and looked after in custody. A certain number of the police are on our side, and many who don't agree with ER still respect it

Do they now?

Probably because of all the overtime the police clock up when they have to police these events 🤣
corlan · 30/08/2021 17:58

That's very sad. Had it been known at the time, he would have been escorted through

Can't you understand how arrogant that is?

00100001 · 30/08/2021 17:58

Why were you on train that is powered by electricity, created by fossil fuel?

Why aren't you vegan?

trappedsincesundaymorn · 30/08/2021 17:59

That's very sad. Had it been known at the time, he would have been escorted through

he shouldn't have needed to be escorted through, anyone with a shred of decency would have known that.

CrazyCatLazy · 30/08/2021 17:59

Absolutely this.

I work in an industry regularly targeted by ER and it causes my colleagues and me great stress and worried about my safety getting to work, my safety at work and the stability of my job. The job the houses, feeds and clothes me.
MaMelon · 30/08/2021 17:59

@Pinktable11 no, there’s nothing from Extinction Rebellion Bristol that confirms they would have been waved through. Their official statement after the event was:

Extinction Rebellion Bristol apologised to residents for the disruption, saying: “some have not only been inconvenienced but have also been deeply impacted on a personal and emotional level, and it really saddens us.

“We’re sending great empathy and love from our community to them.”

“Despite this, we were there to cause disruption because our government isn’t acting on the climate and ecological crisis. And it is a crisis – that has very real and immediate human consequences.”

Ihaventgottimeforthis · 30/08/2021 17:59

Do XR actually produce any action plans as to how we should move away from fossil fuels, or be carbon neutral by 2025, or do they just demand it without any idea how to implement it?
What would make it possible for you & your friends & family to be free from fossil fuel use?
Do you support nuclear ENERGY, & large-scale investment in public transport infrastructure (outside of road building) like for example, oooh I don't know, HS2?!?!

PlanDeRaccordement · 30/08/2021 18:00

@MaMelon

So your answer to being annoyed with XR was to choose to contaminate the earth a little bit more. Wow

Wow indeed.

It is a good example of the damage XR are doing to the green movement. Their actions are undoing decades of work gathering public and government support and action to protect the planet. The OP needs to hear that their actions are alienating members of the public to such a degree that they no longer care about the environment and deliberately stop doing green actions that they were previously doing. This poster is not unique, there are thousands if not millions that feel and act the same way as a direct result of XRs counter productive activism.
Bellagonna · 30/08/2021 18:01

Did you need a wee in the 4 hours you were in the police van?

Why are your protests reactive rather than proactive? Why not lobby for better cycling routes or hydrogen powered buses rather than telling people (who are often less priviliged than you) what NOT to do?

nocoolnamesleft · 30/08/2021 18:01

If you're so passionate about the environment, why did you do the single most destructive thing for the environment possible, and procreate? (No, I'm not a hypocrite: I chose not to have children).

Pinktable11 · 30/08/2021 18:02

@COLLIESHANGLES

Can you explain like I'm 5 what ER is/does?

Extinction Rebellion is a non violent direct action pressure group aiming to make governments and big companies to tell the truth about climate change, take mediate action to avert a total climate disaster, and be accountable for their actions
