I've read the posts about XR on here over the last week

Happy to answer anything, but do keep in mind if I'm arrested again today I may well be out of touch for 24+ hours, and longer if my phone is impounded 😁

Ironically in terms of lobbying, you'd be better to join the Tory Party and use your local party system to further ideas and ambitions than marching on London, causing disruption and antagonising people

I do agree with this. I was simultaneously a member of both Labour and Conservative parties. I had no intention of voting for either, especially not the odious tories. But I wanted to get rid of Corbyn (who has been a disaster for this country by making Labour unelectable) and to stop Johnson (who has been a disaster by being Johnson). Mixed results, but at least I had a say!

Membership of the Conservative party is really the only way to have any say in national policy at the moment.

(By the way, I thought I'd get chucked out of one or both parties for breaking the rules and joining the other, but they clearly have no means of checking!)

I mean there's the Tory party fucking up covid, schools, parks, public services, hospitals.... etc

There are multi-Bazillionaires & massive companies fucking up the planet.

There's racists, misogynists, The Taliban.... but no, no, let's get our nickers in a twist & save all our vitriol for some people who are trying to save the planet. So that we can continue to live on it. SO VERY offensive! 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🙈🙈🙈

I do find it weird OP how worked up people get about ER.

I mean there's the Tory party fucking up covid, schools, parks, public services, hospitals.... etc

There are multi-Bazillionaires & massive companies fucking up the planet.

There's racists, misogynists, The Taliban.... but no, no, let's get our nickers in a twist & save all our vitriol for some people who are trying to save the planet. So that we can continue to live on it. SO VERY offensive! 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️🙈🙈🙈

As I say its about, identity and taking a swipe at parties.

Ultimately people just want to get on with living their lives - issues with covid, the NHS, public services, pensions, poverty etc etc are about this. XR makes it difficult for people just trying to get on with that and often comes from a place of privileged people telling people what to do, when they are already struggling and would just appreciate acknowledgment and awareness of that.

I'm done with this business of a hierachy of worthy causes which ignore the very basics - which goes across a range of subjects - and therefore frequently misses the underlying point.

Its about rampant unquestioning ideology v practical real world solutions to practical problems.

I am a rule follower. If there is one thing that I love, it is sticking to the rules and not breaking the law. I expect others to do the same. But recently it has occurred to me that the govts have done next to nothing about climate change. No press conferences. No encouraging smaller families. No restricting the number of business/holiday flights. No national environment day/getting schools/businesses involved in planting trees, no apps on keeping track of your carbon footprint etc. They have shown that they can do so much re covid when they want to. And also shown that they all repeatedly break the laws that they set. So as a mild mannered timid follower of all rules, I salute you! And hopefully on the next march I will be there, albeit doing my best not to get arrested or drop any litter etc.

@RedToothBrush** hmm surely the "underlying point" is that all the other points you are rightly concerned about are pretty irrelevant if we don't exist. Or have to live through devastating climactic events 🤷🏻‍♀️

Why can't people you deem to be privileged try to get this point on the agenda?

I don't think the majority of ER represent the political or monied elites who have the influence / power to change things.

But they are certainly getting noticed.

To all you lovely posters who asked they are all fine. The police got them out safely and then spent a good half hour talking to and with them. Their makaton skills are excellent.

No, we haven't forgotten; tthere were quite a few occasions when they got it badly wrong. And don't get me started on Emily Davison, who ran headlong into a bunch of galloping racehorses in the 1913 Epsom Derby, endangering the lives of all those animals and their jockeys.

People aren't getting worked up at XR for wanting to save the planet. Their anger is at the way they go about it.

Also, you can be angry and pissed off about more than one issue at a time.

No. They really didn't. They actually damaged the cause of Votes for Women and set back the work the Suffragists had been doing for a long time.

Another one ignorant of the actual facts of women obtaining the vote.

We need to draw attention to the fact that we are at crisis point. If we don't act now we will destroy our own life support system.

Oh yes, I literally only care about ER. I'm a one issue person and have never posted about racism or misogyny or the awful situation in Afghanistan. I'm sure that's equally true of all my fellow posters. (Sarcasm)

Imagine if the public showed the same level of hostility to governments breaking climate agreements as they do to XR blocking a road a couple of times a year. Or to oil companies dumping in the ocean. Or to politicians campaigning for more airports etc... I find the level of anger and hatred toward XR quite fascinating from a psychological point of view, I expect future historians will also. I don't agree with every action by XR but find the level of hatred aimed at them completely bizarre and out of proportion. Of course a lot of it is whipped up by MSM which has a vested financial interest in keeping the abuse of the planet continuing for as long as possible.
