NC for this as I remained anonymous, which was fairly pointless as I did tell some family and friends and it spread from there.

OP posts:

Spot on Bluesheep8.

It's even reported completely accurately, which is always a dead giveaway...

@bollihigh

Out of genuine concern for the OP, I hope she doesn't come back for her own sake given it is now in the tabloids. I can forgo my natural prurience in this instance.
Genuine concern?

Good grief

She started a thread. Called Ask me Anything.

On a hugely popular site with millions signed up.

Notorious for being picked up by the DM

Bizarre

Highfivemum · 16/06/2021 17:30

Great thread. You are living the dream we all dream about. Well done
Did you always do lucky dip ?
Do you still do those numbers ?
Did you buy anything that was hugely extravagant? Not a house but something that only those with money could buy.
Do you still look at sales rails. ? I always say even if u win the lottery I would still go to sales.

FuckyouCovid21 · 16/06/2021 17:47

@bollihigh

Sorry, but I have slept on this - the OP is obviously very articulate and intelligent and comes over very well but sorry no way is this true with £10 million plonked in a 'private account' and no Financial Adviser or Accountant or Tax Adviser.

National Lottery is very good at advising and supporting their winners and in no universe would they recommend going down that route. Plus 10 mill in a private account is hugely risky as only 85k is covered by government guarantees.

Who would do that!

Give it a rest for fuck's sake, jealously is a terrible thing

If the dream is posting fake threads and lifting them straight into a tabloid then yes, the dream is being lived.

bollihigh · 16/06/2021 17:49

My 'concern' was ethereal to say the least I got slapped down many pages back and smacked for troll hunting! So I'm minding my G&Ts carefully. Wink

bollihigh · 16/06/2021 17:50

me jealous - of a £14 million pound lottery win - NEVER !

Of Courtney?

JingsMahBucket · 16/06/2021 18:03

@Hollywolly1
If I won the lottery I would hire someone to scratch my head all day Grin Grin and I don't have nits

This had me burst out laughing!

Gwenhwyfar · 16/06/2021 18:22

"And how much? £50k? £100k? £500k? £1m?!?!? How do you grade it?

People are NEVER happy with what you give them. I can see the AIBU threads now.. "great aunt twice removed won £14m on the lottery and only gave me £50k AIBU or is she a mean cow?""

Yep. Do you give only to the struggling ones or to all? And what about the changing power dynamics afterwards? They may be grateful, but also resentful of having taken money from you.

Gwenhwyfar · 16/06/2021 18:24

"I don't wish to sound morbid but just bear in mind, you won't be able to pass it on to your son... 40% will go to the government, which reduces to 36% if you leave a good chunk to charity.
There are plenty of ways to minimise that further with Trusts etc."

You shouldn't really avoid tax if you're a multi-millionaire.

SofiaMichelle · 16/06/2021 18:36

You'd have to give everyone (of the same family 'level') the same, surely?

It's the only fair way and avoids the "£0.5m to the hardworking, sensible brother, £1m to the feckless, skint brother" unfairness.

If you start trying to decide who's more deserving you're opening a very big can...

KenAdams · 16/06/2021 18:40

Can you go into any more detail on what the pros and cons of going public are?

Do you enjoy little luxuries like upgrading your flights, having help for household chores and staying at better hotels?

LibbyL92 · 16/06/2021 18:49

Without telling people how have you managed to justify the designer handbags ect?

Have you told them you just have a really well paid job ect?

JellyBabiesFan · 16/06/2021 19:21

Did you hand in your notice before you got the money?
What class of airline seat do you fly in?

Bluesheep8 · 16/06/2021 20:04

It's already been discovered upthread that this is a fake thread posted by a journalist and lifted into The Daily Mirror.
Why are posters still asking the OP questions?! Confused

I might have missed a bit, but why does being in the Mirror mean it’s fake? Tabloids are notorious for trawling Internet forums for juicy stories to pad the newspaper out, Mumsnet often gets whole threads lifted. They get paid for a quick copy and paste job, easy money for a junior hack.

I think the suggestion was a journalist posted it in order to 'lift' it themselves, and cite mumsnet as source.

bitheby · 16/06/2021 22:19

Can I have some money please?

bollihigh · 16/06/2021 22:49

The issue here isn't really vaccination it's the chronic underfunding and understanding of a mostly second-class care system that is rapidly becoming unfit for purpose. Combined with post-pandemic as a society do we really care about reforming it and putting people not profit first ?

And then there's Johnson our current Lord of Misrule happy to point the finger of blame - look over there - migrants, unvaxed workers, flags and statues and pictures of the Queen and a £200 million pound Royal Yatch. We really are going to hell in a handcart.

bollihigh · 16/06/2021 22:50

Why haven't Mumsnet deleted it then?
