Not that it matters, not that it's a big deal, not that you (should) care but if you've ever wanted to ask someone with dreadlocks a question or if you think of any now, feel free to ask me.

Anything at all, doesn't matter how it comes across. Happy to answer Smile

@TheNavigator

OP, thank you for this thread, it is so interesting and you sound so lovely and easy going. If everyone was like you, the world would be a calmer place.

My question: Do you ever cut your locks, or do they have a natural length they don't grow beyond?

Thanks

Aww thank you. The world would be boring though. We need the interesting ones to liven things up and give us something to talk about 😀

Not yet but I will if they grow too long.
Haven't noticed a terminal length yet.

What a lovely and informative thread OP, thanks.

Amazing thread, thank you OP.

My friend has long natural locs, but they are kind of crinkly. So gorgeous. I do get hair envy.

I can confirm her hair never smells lol, but she avoids the rain etc.

No, more like the attached, she plays with them plenty, I don't thinkvshe has ever taken them out. She wears them up with a scarf/bandana.

chickenyhead · 03/11/2020 20:09

Really soft to touch (I know) and not shiny.

She does get an itchy head though lol

DreadsVanLocksDarling · 03/11/2020 20:35

Ah ok... Yes they are beautiful. It's more like the 3rd pic but longer. They are more often the 'manicured' locs but styled in ways that make them curly by braiding/twisting them or using rollers.

I first thought they were like the first 2 pics which are called Sisterlocks - another type of locs. Very tiny and maintained like the manicured locs. They can also be left straight or twisted/braided/rolled to make them curly like the ones in the pics.

@DreadsVanLocksDarling

Yes, that'll be it. She adds tighter bits I think, so the crinkle. Not uniform, but absolutely stunning.

Her mum's ones go down to her knees when she let's them hang straight at home.

I have crap hair, can't hold a curl, won't stay straight if ANY moisture. But if I could choose my hair, it would be like hers. No shame. I know.

Mine will do, it suits me enough. But thank you for sharing so freely.

Amazing! I've seen loc-rapunzels online.Smile

I once saw a video of one of Bob Marley's sons (can't remember which one) stuffing his dreadlocks in his backpack, then carrying the back so he can play football. They were long and in the way.

Uh-oh. Think I've posted too many pictures. The link button has disappeared. Was going to show some very long dreadlocks, including Damien marley's (Bob marley's son) and the video link.

Thank you for this wonderful AMA. It has been a joy to read. Just what I needed. Your and your daughter’s hair sounds absolutely magical. As a person with boring very straight hair that’s prone to greasiness and can’t hold a style I’m jealous. Your hair has soul.
