Is the "crispy seaweed" really fried cabbage?
Are people really so daft that they think coronavirus is going to strike in British Chinese takeaways? Confused

bsc · 27/01/2020 19:54

Also, on the Chinese Takeaway scene...are you keeping up with current trends and seeing an increase in orders for vegan dishes, or demand for Gluten Free/Dairy free dishes?

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 27/01/2020 19:55

@Angie6868 Is the "beef" actually beef?

What else would it be?

BikeRunSki · 27/01/2020 19:56

Why are Chinese takeaways always closed on Tuesdays?
I get that you need time off, I’m not disputing that but why Tuesdays? Every single one for about a 5 mile radius of us is closed on Tuesdays (I hunted high and low on DD’s birthday a couple of years ago when it fell on parents’ meeting day too). It’s been the sane in other parts of the UK that I have lived in too.

Christmaspug · 27/01/2020 19:57

Anything vegan ,and is it cooked separately so the food stays vegan

beyoncessweatband · 27/01/2020 19:57

If you are Chinese - do your family own the restaurant?
How much does the restaurant make annually ?
Is there a 'Chinese area '? I've never seen an area that has large numbers of Chinese people (apart from little china) unlike with say south Asians, black people, Jewish people etc

Angie6868 · 27/01/2020 19:58

@JesusInTheCabbageVan

I don't know, that's why I asked

Maryann1975 · 27/01/2020 19:58

Is it now unusually quiet because of the Coronavirus or business as usual?
Seriously?? Does anyone actually believe you can catch coronavirus by eating Chinese takeaway?

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 27/01/2020 19:58

Are there any ingredients we should know about for creating that 'authentic' taste? (I mean authentic takeaway, not authentic Chinese cuisine)

If the chefs are Chinese - is the good they cook for themselves very different to the takeaway style Chinese?

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 27/01/2020 20:00

Angie but what made you think it wouldn't be beef? Would you ask that of someone working in a pub?

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 27/01/2020 20:00

*Food, not good...

Bunnyfuller · 27/01/2020 20:02

Yes, ditto that authentic takeaway taste - char Sui pork, barbecue chicken and curry sauce in particular- as in is there a recipe....

macaroniandpizza · 27/01/2020 20:02

Is the curry sauce homemade or packet? If the latter mayflower tasted very similar and was really nice

NemophilistRebel · 27/01/2020 20:03

Do you deliver?

Thelnebriati · 27/01/2020 20:03

Did you like Chinese food when you started the job, and how do you feel about it now? I'd be scared I'd go off it.

JewelTheft · 27/01/2020 20:04

Do you have a recipe you can share for beef and green peppers in black bean sauce, please?

Mlou32 · 27/01/2020 20:05

Is it true that Chinese restaurants have less than ideal hygiene?

7dayslater · 27/01/2020 20:06

Hi OP, no questions but just wanted to say hi. I also work in a Chinese take-away / restaurant. Grin

Kittywampus · 27/01/2020 20:11

Assuming you are Chinese, how does the food in the restaurant compare to food that you would eat in China?

Dragonembroidery · 27/01/2020 20:12

Hi
Forgive me for this question but do you put on a fake stereotypically Chinese accent when serving customers?
I've met loads of Chinese people at work and at school and in all walks of life with very english accents. Hiya mate, how you hanging etc.
Every time I've been in chinese take away = very stereotyped accent. Different places.
Do people put this on to seem authentic?
Much love btw x

Bluerussian · 27/01/2020 20:12

I want to say Hi OP and Hi to 7dayslater, I do not work in a Chinese restaurant but do sometimes order from a very good Chinese restaurant; the house my son rents is owned by a Chinese couple who have a Chinese restaurant so we may all be related :-).

I like sweet and sour pork and a few other things.

bsc · 27/01/2020 20:12

@BikeRunSki I was told that the tax penalties for operating a seven day a week business we're quite severe, so takeaways always closed one day a week. This was in the 80s.
Don't know how accurate that is.

Fanniesyeraunt · 27/01/2020 20:12

DH and I always get the same thing: chicken chow mien, sweet n sour chicken, rice and salt n pepper chips.
If we were to go wild one night and deviate from this, what do you recommend we try?

Dragonembroidery · 27/01/2020 20:13

Username coincidental :)

Straycatstrut · 27/01/2020 20:21
