I’m a Manager at McDonalds Smile

I’ve worked for McDonalds for several years in different stores and have received personal awards for my customer service. I never initially wanted to become a manager, however with the support and encouragement of my business manager I went through the crew development programme to become one.

So... AMA? Grin

My McDonald's don't do sundaes now, I'm quite upset even though Iv not had one for years so it may not be a new thing 😂

MyYoniFromHull · 02/10/2018 15:42

@WhatToDoAboutWailmerGoneRogue now I only went because you asked me to, just to be crystal clear

Just seen this thread so haven't read it all.

Do you support strike action?

SadieContrary · 02/10/2018 15:54

Loved this post. I worked for McDs when I was at school then into Uni and was always impressed by their high level of training and attention to detail.
I also try to dispel the opinions of those who have a negative view towards those who work there.
Like someone else said, I also used to go out after a close and be back in for an open... oh to be young again for sure!
In fact, my only negative memory was trying to sleep after a particularly busy close (usually a wknd) and I'd see the time cards (the metal ones) from the holding bin in my mind over and over when I was trying to sleep! 🤪

SadieContrary · 02/10/2018 16:06

I also still have my name badge in a box somewhere but I'm sure it has 5 stars. Was ridiculously proud of it at the time plus the wee pay bonus on the three months I got crew member of the month was an absolute treat!

greyspottedgoose Yeah, nobody’s does; they were removed from the menu last week along with the BLC. Sorry!

MyYoniFromHull To be fair, I didn’t mean specifically go for me just when you next happened to pop in Grin

Interesting! I am willing to bet they are finding that button under breakfast offers, but I will investigate when I’m next in work.

Breakfast Offers should only be used if we have extra breakfast left for 10/15 minutes after 10.30, in which case you can sell it for a lower price to compensate for it not being cooked to order.

Therefore they should not be using this button to give you another hash brown with your meal (hence it not being on the kiosks); it should go through as normal at 89p.

Do you support strike action?

wafflyversatile That’s exceptionally vague! Are you referring to the first and only time McDonalds workers have gone on strike on the UK, which was last year, and only at two specific restaurants? If so, then no, I didn’t support that.

Loved this post.

SadieContrary Thank you! Smile

Like someone else said, I also used to go out after a close and be back in for an open... oh to be young again for sure!

While I am very glad you enjoyed your time at McDonalds, that would thankfully never happen now! If you are on a close, the earliest you would be scheduled the next day would be 12.00 (and that would try to be avoided).

I also still have my name badge in a box somewhere but I'm sure it has 5 stars.

We have four stars (quality, cleanliness, service and vital ingredients) but congrats!

I was quite disappointed that it's smarties McFlurrys, had a little huff to myself and got a cone with a flake 😂

Winewinewinewine · 02/10/2018 22:29

Thanks for such a comprehensive reply OP. I wonder when they started using franchises and not just owning all the restaurants themselves. I suppose the business just got too huge to run as a single entity....

Oh and I love Smarties Mcflurries. 😂😂

Mightybanhammer · 02/10/2018 23:28

I visited one of your outlets in the 80s and another recently.

I am impressed by your dedication so crack on.Smile

The food I found repulsive though.

Please please don't call your outlet sites 'restaurants' . They are brand outlets selling pretty awful low grade 'food'. Bland nasty and weird .

greyspottedgoose You’re in the minority! People have been asking us to bring back the smarties McFlurries for years Grin

Winewinewinewine You’re welcome Smile Franchises were actually adopted very, very early on McDonalds history; way before it got huge. They started looking for franchisees in 1953, and found plenty, but the problem they had was that the franchisees didn’t stick to their rules or way of doing things (mainly because the McDonald brothers weren’t skilled businessmen), and so they didn’t have the consistency the McDonald brothers wanted throughout all their franchises.

The McDonald brothers really didn’t know what they were doing so were unable to successfully franchise restaurants to suit them. That’s where Ray Kroc comes in; he actually had to buy some franchisee rights back because of the issues they were facing.

Long story short, Ray Kroc was a great businessman and was able to successfully franchise restaurants and maintain contracts in a way that would ensure franchised McDonalds would all run the same and in the way they wanted them to.

Mightybanhammer The quality of ingredients McDonalds is able to acquire is excellent; it isn’t low grade at all. The beef is 100% British and Irish, forequarter and flank, and the chicken is 100% breast meat.

You may not like the food, and that’s fine, but our restaurants use high quality ingredients to make our sandwiches. They have the pick of the suppliers as the top of the food chain and they pick the best.

What is the company's plan for meat supply post Brexit ?
Why have you started calling burgers sandwiches ?

WhatToDoAboutWailmerGoneRogue · 02/10/2018 23:55

Mightybanhammer As I said, all our meat is British and Irish, and all our suppliers are UK based.

Why have you started calling burgers sandwiches ?

McDonalds has always referred to them as sandwiches.

I hope I have already asked this but my daughter is coeliac - are the fries safe for her to eat both from an ingredients point of view and a cross contamination one? What shirt the milkshakes and McFlurries? Thank you?

WhatToDoAboutWailmerGoneRogue · 03/10/2018 00:10

Leafy2018 I don’t wish to be unhelpful, but given the importance of allergens, I do not feel comfortable answering this definitively over the internet.

As managers we are trained on exactly how important it is that allergen sufferers make their own decisions in regards to consuming our products, so I would advise that the next time you go to McDonalds you ask to see a manager regarding allergen advice. They will then pull out the consistently updated allergen book for you to take a look at and decide how best to proceed.

Ouch. Someone got out of bed the wrong side and didn’t get a bacon egg mc muffin!

In my long-drive commute days I would have quite variable drive times to work and would often park up in a maccys if I was early and have a coffee and a bacon egg mc muffin meal.

Oh good times.

Nissemand · 03/10/2018 11:22

Oh, I have another question (prompted by my weekend trip for a Big Mac)!

When the touchscreen ordering things run out of paper for receipts, why doesn't the machine tell you?

I now have eagle eyes, and try to simultaneously watch for my order number as well as checking my payment has gone through, just in case the receipt doesn't print.

I still love the ordering machines though. You can customise away, and no one gives you a twitchy eyebrow. Grin

Mightybanhammer · 03/10/2018 20:09

Your supply now might be British and Irish but what is the plan post Brexit when the market will be flooded with cheap American hormone ridden beef? Will macdonalds continue to support Irish and British farmers despite the additional cost?

MistyMeena · 03/10/2018 20:37

Will there be mince-pie with custard this year? Missed it last year Sad

WhatToDoAboutWailmerGoneRogue · 03/10/2018 21:33

When the touchscreen ordering things run out of paper for receipts, why doesn't the machine tell you?

Nissemand Because a lot of the time when it doesn’t print a receipt, it’s not a case of it running out of paper. The problem is usually people yanking their receipts out of the kiosks, which causes a jam and prevents any more from printing.

If you just press no when it asks you to retry it will tell you your order number. If you have an order number, your payment has gone through Smile

You can customise away, and no one gives you a twitchy eyebrow.

Grill (custom) orders aren’t uncommon; people have been doing them for years, even on the old system, so crew would never find it out of the ordinary.

Mightybanhammer Brexit will not affect UK McDonalds using only 100% British and Irish beef. All suppliers are UK based; that isn’t going to change.

MistyMeena We haven’t had the Festive Pie since 2016, and though I haven’t seen the Christmas menu for this year yet I doubt it would be on there. Sorry!

PomPomtheGreat · 13/10/2018 16:19

Why can we get all day breakfasts her in Oz if it so difficult for the UK to serve them after ten thirty am? I can get an egg Mcmuffin 24/7 and often do!
