I’m a Manager at McDonalds Smile

I’ve worked for McDonalds for several years in different stores and have received personal awards for my customer service. I never initially wanted to become a manager, however with the support and encouragement of my business manager I went through the crew development programme to become one.

So... AMA? Grin

Is there any way I can get a "proper" double cheeseburger like they used to be before this made to order rubbish came about?
They improved by being kept warm 5minutes, the cheese properly melted (possibly also something to do with burger being straight off the grill). Every now and again I get a craving and it is never satisfied by the unmelted cheese double cheeseburger I get

Not read the thread but is true you don't pay full amount for holidays?

CoffeeAndToffee · 05/08/2018 21:28

Do you actually recycle? I spent ages after a meal separating all the plastic and drinking cups into the correct bins only to see the crew member come over and tip the recycling bins into the general rubbish bin before taking it to empty.

Why can't big tastys be available all year round?

Cupoteap They use a specific meat size that none of our other regular burgers do, and we just don’t have the storage to be able to hold them all year round. We like various promotions, so if we had the big tasty all year we wouldn’t have space for any other promotional meat.

What, if anything, do you eat regularly from the menu?

PandaPieForTea I mostly eat chicken, so selects/nuggets/sandwich.

Our local store is now mostly touchpad ordering with table delivery. Is yours like this and how has this changed your experience of working in McDonalds?

PandaPieForTea Your restaurant is on the EOTF system, which all U.K. restaurants are currently being refurbed into. My restaurant is like that, and I much prefer it to working on the old system. This system is much smoother; all crew have designation stations, which means you’re not running around trying to do everything! It’s also upped our staffing levels, as we require more crew now than before to work the new system correctly.

In a nutshell: it’s a lot less stressful!

OP, what are your thoughts about speed of service at McDonalds?

BonnieF Nothing has gone wrong. Each store does regular diagnostics on both service and production and wait times are a lot lower than they were on the old system.

Before when you walked in, you would get a burger that’s been sitting there for god knows how long, which wasn’t nice to eat and was not gold standard.

Now everything is made for you, but wait time is reduced.

Is the oil that the chips are fried in filtered overnight alongside oil used to fry non vegetarian items? I.e the oil is all mixed together in the filtering process

dovegrey18 The oil is filtered regularly throughout the day. After a vat has been used 12 times, it will prompt us to filter and we should always say yes. Vats are dropped in the morning if they are too high.

The fry vats, which veggie patties are cooked in, have their oil filtered separately to the chicken vats, so fries and veggie burgers and completely vegetarian.

Where do you get your gherkins from?

cameltoeflappyflapflap · 05/08/2018 21:32

And can you buy them here?

cameltoeflappyflapflap · 05/08/2018 21:34

Where did Ronald McDonald go?

M0reGinPlease · 05/08/2018 21:35

What's the deal with the Big Mac sauce? Why's is so darn tasty and is it used on any other burgers? Do you have big cats of it hanging around and how do you resist dunking your face in it?

Pompom42 · 05/08/2018 21:36

I like McDonald's Tea it's always really strong and I love strong tea. I think it's PG Tips but I don't find it strong if I buy it for home. Weird.
Also I really miss the McRib and would love for it to come back.

M0reGinPlease · 05/08/2018 21:36

Vats not cats!!!!

Atetoomanyjaffacakes · 05/08/2018 21:36

What is the recipe for big Mac sauce? Grin

WhatToDoAboutWailmerGoneRogue · 05/08/2018 21:36

Please can you add more chicken in the wraps and salads! I had a McDonald's salad and it only had 3 strips of chicken in it.

SlimmingMumOf1 All food has a specific way to be made, so if you want extra, you can ask, but you will be charged extra (though an extra select probably wouldn’t fit in a wrap).

What happened to the creepy clown?

flumpybear Nothing in particular, just our advertisement and focus is more on customers now.

Why is the mcflurry machine always broken ?

AnotherOriginalUsername It’s not. In all the time I’ve worked there I’ve only known the machine to actually be broken once. Most occurances of the machine out of use is someone accidentally putting it on heat treat... which takes four hours.

How do you get your chips so salty?they're bloody delicious.

SendYouUpInFlames Glad you like them! When the chips are salted they should be salted 20cm above with the Accusalt, which releases a specific amount of salt.

What items do you sell the most of?

CatOwned · 05/08/2018 21:41

Why are fries sizes so different across countries? Large fries in the US/Canada are at least twice as big as the large fries in Brazil!

Smallhorse · 05/08/2018 21:42

I bloody love McDonalds
I worked there for 3 years when I was a young thing.
Hard work.
Higher hygiene standards than anywhere I have ever worked (including some healthcare jobs)

WhatToDoAboutWailmerGoneRogue · 05/08/2018 21:43

dontforgetbilly We do not hold food anymore as that is not the gold standard product we want to give out. All food is made for you.

Not read the thread but is true you don't pay full amount for holidays?

ch0c0milkrox What do you mean? Holiday pay is calculated and paid correctly.

Do you actually recycle? I spent ages after a meal separating all the plastic and drinking cups into the correct bins only to see the crew member come over and tip the recycling bins into the general rubbish bin before taking it to empty.

CoffeeAndToffee Yes we do; we have a dedicated recycling system all crew should follow and if they are not then they need to be correctively coached on that. We take it very seriously.

Where do you get your gherkins from?

cameltoeflappyflapflap We have dual supplies in case of any issues, but I would rather not name the suppliers.

You can buy them here; all suppliers are UK and Ireland based with the exception of one I think it is.

Where did Ronald McDonald go?

See upthread Smile

It is not used on any other burgers, no. We get tubes of it on delivery Smile

Pompom42 Yeah, our tea is PG Tips!

What is the recipe for big Mac sauce?

Hi OP. Would MCD's in the UK ever think of serving wine, as (apparently) the French one does?

forgivenminds · 05/08/2018 21:45

What experience or skills do you look for in recruits, my dc both with previous years retail/hopsitality/catering experience applied to McDonalds stores when at uni as they heard it was accomodating but neither ever got invited for interview and said staff seemed more like school leavers around 16, is this because younger staff are cheaper ?

WhatToDoAboutWailmerGoneRogue · 05/08/2018 21:45

What items do you sell the most of?

Beef, mainly Big Macs! Although chicken sales have definitely increased in the last few years.

Why are fries sizes so different across countries? Large fries in the US/Canada are at least twice as big as the large fries in Brazil!

Different sizes to suit different markets Smile

Higher hygiene standards than anywhere I have ever worked (including some healthcare jobs)

Yeah, our hygiene and health and safety standards are exceptionally high!

When are you going to start delivering? And will the breakfast slot ever be made longer? Not sure if t has now...

cameltoeflappyflapflap · 05/08/2018 21:48

@WhatToDoAboutWailmerGoneRogue

I've bought all the different kinds of pickle in the shops and cannot find one that tastes the same.

Can you point me in the right direction?

Dadsbigsausages · 05/08/2018 21:48

Can I order an extra spin of the McFlurry topping grinder or is this impossible. I don't wanna be a cheeky fucker but I want double of the creme egg in my McFlurry Smile

WhatToDoAboutWailmerGoneRogue · 05/08/2018 21:48

Hi OP. Would MCD's in the UK ever think of serving wine, as (apparently) the French one does?

Doubtful; we don’t have an alcohol licence and it would take a lot to sort out across the entirety of the UK.

We don’t look for experience, we look for attitude. Often if people have experience in another food service area it means they are less likely to commit to the standards and practices of McDonalds and are harder to train.

We also like everyone to start from the bottom and work their way up; there’s a real sense of teamwork and a strong work ethic of everyone’s done exactly what you are doing now, even the franchise owners.

What does a typical day at work involve for you?

HannahHut · 05/08/2018 21:50

I worked at one for a long time.

I noticed there was a lot of preferential treatment to those with kids during the holidays. In the stores i was in you worked either Christmas Eve and boxing day or new years eve and day. Parents were always given their choice first which was Christmas. I worked Christmas shifts 6 years on the trot.

Was this the same in your store, and did you ever take part?
