I’m A Manager At McDonalds... AMA!

I’m a Manager at McDonalds Smile

I’ve worked for McDonalds for several years in different stores and have received personal awards for my customer service. I never initially wanted to become a manager, however with the support and encouragement of my business manager I went through the crew development programme to become one.

So... AMA? Grin

If they have a plan in place why has it been going on for 3 years? Why would flies landing on food be going on for 3 years?

anitagreen The EHO act in the interest of the people; if it was a hygiene issue affecting the food they would intervene and shut the place down as that is their job.

The situation will be being monitored and a plan will be in place; EHOs are very frequent visitors.

DCs go into McDs to order their own food as a way of building their confidence but a member of staff told them off for filling their cup a bit beyond the line on the cup at the self service station and now they won’t go back in - is this company policy to tell off your customers who fail to fill their cups to the line, if it is maybe McDs should pay staff to fill the cups instead.

WhatToDoAboutWailmerGoneRogue · 26/08/2018 21:04

Isentthesignal I am unaware of any McDonalds with self filling stations.

Asda Norwich has self filling stations - it’s such a shame, my kids are shy and they love McDs, so encouraging them to order themselves was fairly easy, I just couldn’t believe it would ever work in your favour to provide a self service machine and then admonish customers for incorrectly using them.

WhatToDoAboutWailmerGoneRogue · 26/08/2018 21:47

Isentthesignal I’m confused, you’re talking about Asda in Norwich?

Interesting thread, and thanks OP
so is there any chance of the pizzas coming back?

also - could you shed any more light e.g. books/articles on the CBT that you found helpful?

:-)

Isentthesignal · 26/08/2018 21:52

Yep, there’s a McDs in Asda.

Iamtheresurrection · 26/08/2018 22:02

Our McDonald’s in Asda also has self filling.

20 minute wait in the normal McDonald’s. I sit and watch my family eat as the vegi options are woeful and there’s no decaf coffee. I have fed back but no acknowledgment.

DottyDotAgain · 26/08/2018 22:11

Hello! I'm just coming back to say thank you for your advice earlier - ds1 has got through the recruitment process and got his confirmation email today - he has secured his first job Grin. Just the ID stuff to do and he will hopefully start soon.

Really pleased for him and he starts VI form college soon too, so it's new beginnings all round!

I have to say the recruitment process was more robust than for some of the much higher level jobs I'm involved in recruiting to in the NHS- very impressive and has given ds a really good taster of different processes to go through (online application, situational judgement test, group assessment and 1:1 interview) in the future. Good stuff!

badger246 · 26/08/2018 22:20

Our Asda used to have a McDonald's too with self serve drinks

WhatToDoAboutWailmerGoneRogue · 26/08/2018 22:53

I don’t really know of any McDonalds in Asda’s so I assume they’re within their own special group and may have different policies to other McDonalds.

so is there any chance of the pizzas coming back?

EssexMummy123456 Probably not, sorry!

also - could you shed any more light e.g. books/articles on the CBT that you found helpful?

I didn’t read self help books; the majority of the CBT I did was practical and other materials I had were worksheets off my therapist.

DottyDotAgain That’s great news, I’m really happy for you both! Smile

Quick google shows quite a few McDonalds in Asda stores and more planned. Never knew that was a thing!
OP I am on a very long waiting list. for CBT - can you say what practical stuff you did or what kind of worksheets you used?
Went to our nearest McDonald's and to be fair it was immaculate - lovely Lady who works there (sounds like you) immediately sorted out any problems (no napkins or straws anywhere) but was disappointed to see the bins being emptied into one giant bag after we had carefully sorted our rubbish/food etc out into the separate bins. But its a recently renovated and very busy store so maybe just teething problems.

Why are quarter pounders cooked on a different grill to other burgers? (Only got that from info from McDonalds in asda stores) about why they don't sell quarterd pounders. Are they cooked on different grills in all stores?

WhatToDoAboutWailmerGoneRogue · 27/08/2018 14:35

Anyonewhoknows The practical stuff we did were more social experiments, so deliberately making a nuisance of yourself in public by dropping change everywhere or “forgetting” an item when you get to the till and having to go back etc. We worked up to those though but they definitely helped as they made me see that not everyone is looking at you and it doesn’t matter how ridiculous you are that people just don’t care!

But of course my therapist could have just said that and it wouldn’t have a jot of difference; I had to see it for myself.

I really hope you don’t have to wait too long as CBT was a massive life changer for me and I hope it will be for you too Smile

We did a lot of thought recording, and though I can’t find the exact one I used, there’s a similar one on PsychologyTools (which is a great website with lots of worksheets!) here: www.psychologytools.com/worksheet/cbt-thought-record/

Rubbish should be recycled correctly so if it is not it could be a result of new starters not knowing.

Quarter Pounders do not have to be cooked on separate grills, they can be cooked on any grill - the grill just has to be calibrated for it.

All meat can be cooked on all grills as long as it has been tested. So at changeover you do a full run of each meat type on every single grill to make sure it’s cooking properly. After that, you can cook anything on any grill.

Did you manage to get one of each of the Pokémon toys when they were out? Q😁 Do you pay for them?

wishingchair1 · 27/08/2018 18:26

Sorry if it's been asked before.

Are there vegetarian options I can ask for in a happy meal?

Considering vegetarianism is going up, will there be more vegetarian options in the future.

Love this thread thanks.

NotTheWayISeeIt I did! And yes I paid for them Smile I was rather sad they were plastic and not soft toys, though...

Are there vegetarian options I can ask for in a happy meal?

wishingchair1 You could ask for cheeseburger no meat (plain if applicable), or for two portions of small fries instead. Alternatively, you could buy a veggie meal and the toy separately, and we would place the veggie burger, toy and fries in a happy meal box for you Smile

Considering vegetarianism is going up, will there be more vegetarian options in the future.

While vegetarianism is going up in general, it’s not that relevant to McDonalds. Extensive market research has been done and at this time there just isn’t enough demand for a veggie happy meal or more veggie choices.

Why does the picture of the Fillet O Fish show a whole cheese slice but I only ever get half? (or sometimes it seems like even less). Did I imagine having had a bigger slice? Is this a cost cutting thing that some places do? X

WhatToDoAboutWailmerGoneRogue · 27/08/2018 22:08

ThisIsMyID It’s the way it’s draped. The filet is only meant to have a half slice of cheese as a full one is considered too overpowering, and it’s always been the case.

OP posts:
Hiphopopotamus · 27/08/2018 22:13

Again - I can answer this for everyone!

You want more cheese on your filet of fish? (Which I always do) You’re wrong. McDonald’s has determined through their secret special research that a whole one slice of cheese is too much! And that won’t change because demand innit

Veggie options? Yes - loads more veggies, veganism massively growing - but you’re forgetting McDonalds super special research!! So no extra veggie things for you.

The OP is a manager (and definitely absolutely not a corporate bot) So she is subject to all of McDonalds research figures and customer service analysis and totally knows their plans for the future.

WhatToDoAboutWailmerGoneRogue · 27/08/2018 22:18

Hiphopopotamus Oh, it turns out you don’t have anything better to do than leave rude comments. That’s such a shame for you Sad

OP posts:
Hiphopopotamus · 27/08/2018 22:26

If you look at my posting history I’m generally not rude!

But I do get angry when big corporations spread information in this way. It’s not fair, and it’s manipulative and I think it should be called out. I won’t apologise for that.

Hiphopopotamus I’m not a big corporation. I’m one manager amongst thousands that works for a company I’m exceptionally proud to work for.

I was asked to do this AMA off the back of another thread, and posters have recognised me as mentioning my job and how passionate I am about it throughout my posting history.

OP posts:
Hiphopopotamus · 27/08/2018 22:42

Ok - if this is an AMA...

  1. What would you change about the way McDonalds runs?

  2. what would you change about the McDonalds menu?

WhatToDoAboutWailmerGoneRogue · 27/08/2018 22:51

1) What would you change about the way McDonalds runs?

Hiphopopotamus It’s a system they’ve spent years designing. Even going back to the original kitchen designs of the 50s and 60s, they’re strikingly similar with only minor changes to incorporate new advances in tech over the decades, and with the EOTF refurb the original principals are still in place.

There is nothing I can personally think of that I would change; I really like the way it’s run. That it’s a smooth system is a huge part of why I enjoy the job.

2) what would you change about the McDonalds menu?

I think perhaps more of a focus on the chicken promotions. The beef promotions are huge and there is a multitude of choice, whereas there is usually only one promo chicken option to three or four beef ones.

NotTheWayISeeIt · 28/08/2018 00:55

Hiphopopotamus

The OP is a long time poster and has posted in a very similar 'cheery' positive manner for a very long time (look on the Pokémon go threads). She/he has used different names all beginning with 'WhatToDo' - She/He has always used the _annoying/ smiley face and has always been someone who explains things very carefully. ----

I'd bet that she/he is 100% legit.
