I’m a Manager at McDonalds Smile

I’ve worked for McDonalds for several years in different stores and have received personal awards for my customer service. I never initially wanted to become a manager, however with the support and encouragement of my business manager I went through the crew development programme to become one.

So... AMA? Grin

Very interesting/informative AMA.....however, EOTF??? I can’t help thinking it means Eat Off The Floor!

Smallhorse · 18/08/2018 19:09

Top thread!
Thanks for putting so much time into your answers, OP.
It’s so nice to hear someone enthuse about their job.
And you are right, it is very hard work indeed. ( former full time crew member in the 1980s !)

I love all the food at McDonalds , but the grande Mac was something else

Filzma · 18/08/2018 19:14

OP it's a shame people are quick to judge and even proceed to make derogatory remarks.
It starts from a young age when teachers threaten kids with, "you'll end up flipping burgers at McDonald's". I find that disgusting especially from a teacher!!!

Anyway, I'm really taken in by your positivity. I'm a big believer in, one choosing daily how they want to see things - positively or negatively. Sometimes people project their own energy into something and cannot imagine that others think or do things different. For instance whenever I tell people, I've NEVER seen my parents fight or raise their voice at each other... never! I'm always met with skepticism, some dismissive and others go ahead to call me a liar. Yet, it's my experience/ what I've witnessed - much like you and this thread. Don't worry OP, MN is just a microcosm of the population. Would be boring if we all saw things the same. WinkSmileFlowers

Thank you for answering!

magpie24 You’re welcome, enjoy!

Smallhorse Thank you! I’m so glad you’ve liked the thread Smile

It hasn’t been announced, but I would be very surprised indeed if they didn’t bring the Grand Mac’s back for another promotion as they were exceedingly popular!

Filzma Exactly! It’s really quite shocking.

Yeah, that’s exactly it. I think it’s such a shame not everyone has the same positivity about their jobs as I do because we spend the majority of our lives in our workplace, so it should be something we enjoy!

I would take a job I enjoyed over an extremely well paid job any day. For me, I want to get the best out of and enjoy life, so being happy about where I work is very important to me. It is perfectly fine for that not to be the case for others, but I find it rather confusing when people are so quick to call you a liar because they can’t fathom it themselves.

That just makes me feel very sorry for them, because they don’t have that in such an extreme way that they can’t even imagine it, similar to how people felt about your parents.

They may be trying to use it as a put down, but all it really does is give us a very sad view into their own lives.

Don't worry OP, MN is just a microcosm of the population. Would be boring if we all saw things the same.

Thank you, and that’s very true! At the end of the day, all I can do is write about my experience Smile

Oh yes totally, unfortunately it was escalated and the Ops Con got involved also. As it all got very serious it was all suddenly never mentioned again and hasn't been since. Lots of stress for nothing.

GreatestShowWoman · 19/08/2018 11:27

I knew a girl years agi who worked in McDonalds to support herself through uni. She is now the manager at one of the biggest/busiest Scottish stores and earn 10x those who used their degree! My cousin got a job managing a store for a big high street retail store because he’d been through the McDonald’s programme.

I have to say here- as a teacher, it’s the students that say this to one another more Often than not! I always pick up on it and tell them they’d be lucky to work for a company like McDonald’s as it can really take you places if you want it to. I worked for a big fast food name all the way through from 15- 23 until I started teaching and there’s no part of me that would use a job like one in McDonald’s as a negative threat to a child.

anitagreen · 25/08/2018 22:19

Totally going in the wrong direction now but me again the fly woman! Yesterday when we was in there people was taking photos of the flies flying around and landing on trays so hopefully it will get sorted soon. I took some sneaky ones myself the staff thought it was funny Shock. It is a shame but it is so off putting

cushioncovers · 25/08/2018 22:24

Why don't McDonald’s offer hot drinks made with other types of milks? It's just cows milk which I don't drink at all your restaurants

WhatToDoAboutWailmerGoneRogue · 26/08/2018 01:10

GreatestShowWoman Yeah, the McDonalds management programme is one of the best and most well respected in the country Smile

anitagreen I’m just going to say the same as before: the restaurants EHO will be aware of it and have a plan in place to deal with it. It will be being monitored.

cushioncovers There isn’t enough demand for it.

Ok guys - we can eliminate a few questions from the AMA.
If you ask this OP why McDonalds don’t do something/carry something, the answer would always be ‘no demand’
If you ask this OP about anything negative you will get a corporate bot response.
To be honest this AMA is made completely redundant if you go to the McDonalds website and look at their FAQs

Hiphopopotamus You know you aren’t required to read and reply, right? If this thread isn’t for you, there are plenty of others Smile

I’m not going to make up outlandish answers just because they might be more interesting, I’m giving you my experience and my answers to the questions based on working there.

If you don’t like it, there’s not much to be done about that, but I’m sure you have better things to do than leave rude comments. Don’t you?

AsAProfessionalFekko · 26/08/2018 09:41

Not really a q...

I read a little while ago about a young man who was badly stabbed and ran into a McDonald's.

The manager had been trained on first aid and locked the doors - and saved the mans life before the emergency services arrived (doing first aid and keeping him safe).

The manager said that he had been trained by the company what to do in case of emergency and first aid and seemed very proud of the company.

AsAProfessionalFekko Yeah, one of the requirements of getting on the management course is that you are first aid trained; you aren’t even accepted if you aren’t.

Then on the management course itself and further courses you are trained in emergency situations. It’s the reason the McDonalds management course is so well respected - because the training is exceptional.

The company should be ashamed of their veggie options, they are disgusting.

That's why no one buys them.

Are you sure you're not from head office? Not one bad thing about working there yet Wink

DannyDogg · 26/08/2018 15:31

Details of errors above in thread, seems complained to HO and was given 10 pounds in vouchers (seems a pittance for five orders being wrong with items missing...)

Against my better judgement tried to use the vouchers but was told they were out of date, crew member refused to give them back until I paid , and upon inspection it would appear that she didn’t understand the difference between issue dates and expiry datesHmm

I mailed (again) no response, how else can I complain?

WhatToDoAboutWailmerGoneRogue · 26/08/2018 15:58

Golde Have you told McDonalds this? Because if they don’t know about a problem, they can’t fix it. The more people that say they don’t like something, the more chance there is of it changing.

DannyDogg I would always suggest complaining to the store you visited rather than head office, as you are more likely to get a better and more personalised response.

Were you able to use the vouchers?

Also if the crew member was refusing to accept them, did you call for a manager?

OP posts:
DannyDogg · 26/08/2018 17:23

Nope still have the vouchers, had to really argue to get them back as she was adamant. That they have to be kept and binned if out of dateHmm. She refused initially to give them back until we’d paid, then decided she couldn’t as it was ‘company policy’

Didn’t speak to a manager as went through the drive thru although did have to go into the store as there was a hash brown missing from the order. Tbh I’ve given up now.

I tried speaking to the store and they said that I’d need to return to get items replaced or actually provided in the first place. not always easy when you’re not that close to a store/ have hungry people to feed/small children to organise.

WhatToDoAboutWailmerGoneRogue · 26/08/2018 17:58

DannyDogg She’s right that if the vouchers were out of date, she would need to bin them. However in this case she had just read them wrong.

If you ever have any problems, say items missing off an order or an incorrect grill, if you’ve left the store you need to phone up the store you visited as soon as you notice.

What they should then do is write your name down in a password protected document with an agreement of what will happen next time you come in eg. If a nugget meal is missed we would give you a free nugget meal next time you came by.

OP posts:
DannyDogg · 26/08/2018 18:18

Ok none of that has ever been offered and we are now up to 6 incorrect orders plus some who can’t read. It shouldn’t happen in the first place and a replacement meal is no good after the time it was required, factor in organisation and petroleum, it seems like you want the customer to pay for the company’s errors..... so to go back to my original question, how else can I can I complain, more specifically, what’s the CEO’s email?

WhatToDoAboutWailmerGoneRogue · 26/08/2018 18:39

DannyDogg You’re right, it shouldn’t happen. But we are only human and mistakes will be made; that is inevitable, especially in such a high paced, sometimes stressful environment.

We do correctively coach crew on order accuracy, but after the fact all we can do is offer a like-for-like replacement.

I do not have that email to hand. My AMA isn’t to deal with individual complaints; those you need to take up with the store at the time of the incident. Any later and it’s rather fruitless as anyone can just claim something is missing.

OP posts:
cushioncovers · 26/08/2018 19:06

I have to agree about the veggie/vegan options they are absolutely rubbish and Im not sure I believe that there isn't enough demand for alternatives to cows milk. Plant milk and veggie options are one of the fastest growing food markets.

Have McDonald’s ever tried to offer milk alternatives and vegan burgers??

WhatToDoAboutWailmerGoneRogue · 26/08/2018 19:32

Have McDonald’s ever tried to offer milk alternatives and vegan burgers??

cushioncovers No, because extensive market research tells them it just isn’t viable.

You don’t need to buy it, but that doesn’t stop it being true. They may be fast growing markets, but they are pretty redundant for the vast majority of McDonalds customers, hence it not being doable to offer them.

OP posts:
anitagreen · 26/08/2018 19:55

If they have a plan in place why has it been going on for 3 years? Why would flies landing on food be going on for 3 years?
