How we tested the UPPAbaby Ciro Highchair

Mum-of-two Bethan used the Ciro multiple times a day as her baby's main highchair for meals and snacks during a testing period of six months.

Our son uses it for breakfast, lunch and dinner and at other times in the day for snacks. It’s been very well used (and loved!)

How easy is the highchair to assemble?

"The chair arrived in large packaging," said Bethan. "The assembly was very easy. The legs screwed in easily with four screws and then it was simply sliding the tray onto the chair and it was finished. It was very straightforward to assemble."

How easy is the highchair to use day-to-day?

"The chair is very easy to use day to day. Our son has used it daily since the start of his weaning journey and he is now 13 months old. We have found it a real delight to use, he is very comfy, supported and he seems happy in it. It has a five-point harness which is easily adjustable and comfortable."

The chair is a soft curve-shape and our son has always looked really comfy. When he was in the early weeks of weaning, we loved how wide the tray was and how it can be adjusted to come in or be pushed further away to create space. We have always found it easy to pop him in and have never struggled with getting his legs in or out like some highchairs can.

"I would say it’s quite a compact chair and doesn’t take up too much room which we appreciate. We use the chair in the kitchen and dining room so frequently carry it from room to room and find it’s light and easy to do that with. It can be a little tricky to do that one handed when carrying the baby if I need to quickly grab it from the dining room but I recognise most people who use it would probably have it in one designated spot rather than moving it multiple times a day. Even so, I don’t find it particularly tricky to do one handed."

It also has floor-friendly feet so sometimes I drag it across our wooden floors which has never caused any issues or scratches. There's also a bib hook on the back which is handy.

How easy is the UPPAbaby Ciro highchair to keep clean?

"The tray slides off and can be washed in the sink or the dishwasher which is what we do if it’s been a particularly messy meal. It’s very easy to wipe clean too and the white tray is still white despite tomato-based sauces being used directly on it regularly.

"Other times we just wipe clean and due to the slightly curved nature of the design, it’s easy to wipe clean as there’s no corners for things to get stuck in. The main chair is also very easy to clean and gather up any bits of food that have fallen as it’s seam-free and all one material which helps with the wipe clean nature of it."

In the manual it also highlights that the tray is designed to prevent mould with vented holes and to specifically dry quickly. We’ve found it easy to keep the tray clean with heavy use.

Is the chair adjustable?

The chair has two main adjustable elements. The first is the tray which can be pulled in or pushed further away and has three different positions. The second is via the footstool which has two separate heights to it by a 180-rotating mechanism. The chair doesn’t fold down or collapse so something to bear in mind if you are hoping to have a chair that can be put away or reduced in size.

What's the longevity like for the UPPAbaby Ciro Highchair?

"We use it daily as our son’s highchair but our nearly three-year-old has also used it on occasion as the tray can be completely removed so the seat is seated at the table and is standard table height. Our nearly 3-year-old has done this on quite a few occasions, and she is very happy and comfy in the chair so I think we will be using it for a long time to come with our son."

The manual states the chair can be used from 6 months to 3 years, so it isn’t a grow with your child type chair like some others on the market that lasts throughout childhood, but it is a great weaning to 3-year-old chair that we have really enjoyed using.

What are the standout features of this highchair?

"The footrest has also been so helpful in how comfortable my baby (and toddler) has felt in it and has make a big difference to how long both my children will stay seated. If my toddler doesn’t have a footrest, she is much more likely to complain and want to get down so we think this really is a standout feature and a great one to have on a highchair."

We love that the chair has an adjustable tray and the way the seat has been designed does make life that bit easier when dealing with a lot of cleaning in those early months of weaning.

Would you recommend the UPPAbaby Ciro Highchair to other parents?

"We love that the chair has an adjustable tray and the way the seat has been designed does make life that bit easier when dealing with a lot of cleaning in those early months of weaning."

I think the adjustable, dishwasher-friendly tray and the adjustable footrest do make it a great option, but it is a premium price considering it’s not that long lasting in terms of the rest of childhood, so something to bear in mind. It also doesn’t fold down which is sometimes a specific feature people are looking for.

Is there anything you would change about this highchair?

"It takes two hands to adjust the tray and sometimes I wonder if this could have been designed in a way that didn’t need two hands as often, I have a bowl of food in one or a baby in the other and want to quickly move it. Now being used to needing two hands to adjust it, I don’t often think about it anymore."

Overall verdict

Overall, I think this is a wonderful chair that looks great, is a lovely size and feels sturdy and secure. I think it has great features and how easy it is to clean is a huge plus.

"However, based on the longevity it seems like a lot of money to spend on a highchair that can only be used from six months to three years, compared with others which grow with your child.  If you have the means or plan to have multiple children that will then make use of it, then perhaps, but I wouldn’t say it’s a necessary amount to spend on a highchair by any means."

Finally, we asked Bethan to rate the UPPAbaby Ciro Highchair for the following aspects:
