Our verdict

Overall, Tamsin really liked the Rio Cot Bed, particularly its size and the change table topper which she said "makes life so much easier." She liked the look of the Rio too, and praised its comfort and adjustability, saying that her baby slept very well in it. Although the edges of the cot have chipped slightly during use - affecting the overall quality and durability score - Tamsin liked the level of safety and stability the Rio provides.

How we tested the Rio Cot Bed

Verified Mumsnet parent-tester Tamsin tested the Rio Cot Bed over a period of several months with a toddler and a newborn baby. During this time she assessed the cot bed carefully for a variety of considerations including ease of use, durability, safety, comfort and value for money. She provided scores for eight key criteria (listed above) using a carefully formulated scoring system, which then informed her overall rating of the Rio Cot Bed.

Tamsin pointed out that while her newborn has mostly used the cot bed for naps to help with the transition into his nursery environment, she anticipates this will become his main bed for many years to come.

How easy is it to assemble the Rio Cot Bed?

"The cot arrived flat packed and it was super heavy," said Tamsin. "My husband put it together. He's not the best with flat pack items so it did take him around a day. He said that it was tricky in places and at times found the instructions difficult to follow."

What comes included with the Rio Cot Bed?

"The Rio included the cot frame which can be changed based on the child's age, a mattress and the change table topper."

We particularly like that it’ll adapt as our baby grows and the changing table as it meant we didn’t need to find a different dedicated area in his room for changing

  • Cot Bed Base Height Position 3: 48.5 cm

"Yes, it has three different levels and these are easy to adjust between."

How easily does the Rio cot bed convert into a toddler bed?

It seems very easy to turn it into a bed by removing the sides and lowering. Due to a tricky putting together session, we do think this will probably take time and patience!

We love the changing table over the bed. Perfect height for us and makes changing time so easy for our little one. The fact that it moves across the bed frame is helpful too
