Panda Cloud Bamboo Duvet review: “Very fluffy, very light and cloud-like”

After four months of testing, the Panda Cloud Bamboo Duvet has proved exceptionally soft, light and comfortable through warm and cooler nights. It isn’t completely faff-free, though, especially when a super king duvet meets a 10kg washing machine.

My verdict

If duvet shopping has taught me anything, it’s that 10.5 tog can mean almost anything in practice. Some duvets feel like padded envelopes, whereas others seem to have been filled with bricks. The Panda Cloud Bamboo Duvet sits firmly at the floaty end of the scale, and for the most part that’s exactly why I’ve loved it.

My husband and I have slept under the super king version every night for four months, alongside Panda’s bamboo bedding set. Our dormer bedroom gets very warm, particularly during a heatwave, and we also share the bed with two small white dogs who have never shown much respect for personal space. The duvet has remained comfortable throughout, including as the weather has turned cooler.

The Panda branding is consistent and well done

It’s very fluffy, very light and lives up to its name. I’m a side sleeper and find it easy to wrap my legs around the cloud-like duvet without having to wrestle with a heavy or rigid filling. It drapes generously across our super king bed, stays silent when either of us moves and gives us both plenty of coverage.

I should say that there was an adjustment period. We previously used a much heavier Ava Innes cashmere and wool duvet, so the Panda initially felt as though there was barely anything over me. If you find the gentle weight of a duvet reassuring, this one could feel insubstantial. Once I got used to it, however, the softness and freedom of movement won me over.

I do like the little Panda logo on the corner of the duvet (though you can see it through the sheets)

The corner loops are a clever touch, although not quite a perfect one. Tied loosely, they came undone after a few weeks and the duvet started disappearing inside the cover. Tied more firmly, they stayed put but made removing the cover for washing more fiddly. Common sense from Panda, then, with a small side order of knot-based admin.

Overall, this is one of the most comfortable duvets I’ve slept under. It’s beautifully made, has kept its shape and has coped with four months of nightly use without damage, flattening or clumping. It isn’t cheap, but I would pay the full price for it.

How I’ve tested the Panda Cloud Bamboo Duvet

I tested the 10.5 tog Panda Cloud Bamboo Duvet in super king over four months, sharing it with my husband in our warm dormer bedroom. We used it at the same time as Panda’s 100% Bamboo Bedding Set, taking it through hot summer weather, milder nights and the first cooler spell of the year.

During testing, I assessed its comfort, softness, temperature regulation, weight, drape, noise, construction and durability. I also washed it after one of our elderly dogs had a seizure on the bed, which gave its stain removal and post-wash loft a rather more thorough test than planned.

Unboxing is easy and the duvet comes with its own storage bag

Because the duvet remained inside its cover throughout testing, and we’ve also been using an air purifier, I can’t fairly credit it with any change in allergies but I can say that neither of us has experienced any irritation while sleeping under it.

First impressions of the Panda Cloud Bamboo Duvet

The duvet arrived with the Panda bedding set, packed inside a reusable storage bag and an external cardboard box. Delivery was quick and well communicated through Panda’s PR company. There was no noticeable smell and it didn’t need airing or vigorous fluffing before use. It was ready for the bed straight away.

A closer look at the duvet storage bag

The duvet's storage bag is as well made as the duvet itself

Its weight, or lack of it, was the first thing I noticed. The duvet felt incredibly light, very fluffy and soft to the touch. The stitching was neat and consistent, with evenly sized pockets designed to keep the fill spread across the duvet rather than collecting in the corners.

Four months later, that first impression still holds. The filling remains even and the duvet hasn’t developed any thin patches, loose threads or signs of damage.

What is the Panda Cloud Bamboo Duvet like to sleep under?

Exceptionally comfortable. The filling is soft and flexible rather than stiff, so I can tuck it around myself or wrap a leg over it when sleeping on my side. Despite its fluffiness, it doesn’t feel bulky and I’ve never been aware of the stitching or individual pockets while lying beneath it.

It’s also completely quiet. There’s no papery rustle when one of us turns over, which matters when you share a bed and don’t particularly want a running commentary on every midnight movement.

The duvet is very fluffy, lightweight and incredibly comfy

The super king size drapes well across our bed and leaves enough coverage for both of us. We haven’t had exposed feet or a nightly tug of war, even with two dogs occasionally attempting to claim the middle.

The only real question is how much weight you want from a duvet. Anyone who likes a heavier, cocooning wool or feather duvet could find the Panda too light. It still feels cosy, but it doesn’t press down on you.

Does the Panda Cloud Bamboo Duvet regulate temperature?

Based on our four months of use, it has handled changing temperatures very well. Our bedroom can become uncomfortably warm and my husband is usually the first to complain when bedding traps too much heat. He hasn’t woken feeling too hot under this duvet, including during the warmer part of our test.

As temperatures have dropped, it has remained warm enough without making the bed feel stuffy. I haven’t felt cold beneath it and would happily continue using it through winter. Panda sells a 4.5 tog version that can be joined to this one to create a 15 tog duvet, but that would probably be too warm for our bedroom.

The Panda cloud duvet is made up of 100% organic bamboo

The duvet is made with organic bamboo and is reusable

Compared with our Ava Innes wool duvet, the Panda feels less warm and considerably lighter. Its temperature regulation has been just as effective for us, but the experience is different. Wool gives us more weight and insulation; the Panda relies on breathability and a much airier feel.

If you’re comparing the best all-season duvets, this is a convincing leave-it-on-the-bed option. Very hot sleepers could still prefer the 4.5 tog version during summer, but the 10.5 tog has worked comfortably for both of us.

Do the corner loops prevent duvet drift?

The Panda duvet has one small loop at each corner. These attach to ties inside Panda’s duvet covers, which is the first time I’ve seen a brand design both parts to work together. Ingenious, if you ask me. Duvets sliding down inside their covers have caused more than enough marital negotiations in our house.

The system works, but the ties need to be secure. Ours came undone after a few weeks when we tied them loosely, leaving us with an increasingly questionable duvet-to-cover ratio. Tight knots solved the drifting but made stripping the bed more fiddly.

I’d still rather have the loops than not. They’re a sensible design detail and don’t get in the way if your duvet cover doesn’t have matching ties.

Is the Panda Cloud Bamboo Duvet easy to wash?

Panda recommends washing the duvet at up to 30°C and line-drying it, with a low tumble dry permitted if needed. I washed ours once during testing, after our elderly dog had a seizure on the bed.

Reader, I used a 40°C anti-stain cycle. I’m a bung-it-in-the-oven-or-air-fryer-at-200°C sort of cook and apparently bring the same level of nuance to laundry, where almost everything gets an hour at 40°C. Sue me. The urine came out without any trouble and the duvet survived my approach without shrinking, clumping or losing its fluffiness. Do follow Panda’s 30°C instructions rather than treating my laziness as care advice.

A hand touches the Panda bamboo duvet

The duvet is designed so the fill is kept even during use

Getting a wet super king duvet through the process was the harder part. It took some coaxing to fit inside our 10kg drum and became very heavy once soaked, although the machine eventually managed a spin cycle. I wouldn’t recommend forcing one into a smaller machine. A laundrette with a larger drum would be the less argumentative option.

It then took two days to dry indoors over a clothes airer. Once dry, it fluffed back up easily and the filling remained evenly distributed. It has become softer with use, while the loft still springs back after being sat on or squashed.

Is the Panda Cloud Bamboo Duvet good value?

Prices start at just under £100 for a single, while the super king we tested costs £160. That puts it well above a basic synthetic duvet, although the bamboo cover, part-bamboo filling and finish make it feel like a premium product rather than an expensive version of the same old thing.

After four months, there’s no damage, sagging or migration of the fill. The five-year guarantee and 30-night trial add reassurance, particularly if you’re unsure about switching from a heavier duvet to something this light.

For me, the comfort justifies the price. I’d pay full price for it and would recommend it to hot sleepers, couples with different temperature preferences, vegans and anyone wanting a soft year-round duvet. I wouldn’t choose it if I wanted an entirely natural filling or the grounded feel of a weightier wool duvet.

Final verdict: should you buy the Panda Cloud Bamboo Duvet?

Yes, if you want a very light duvet that still feels soft, fluffy and properly cosy. The Panda Cloud Bamboo Duvet has kept both of us comfortable through warm and cooler nights, stayed silent and retained its shape after four months of daily use and one fairly testing wash.

It won’t satisfy sleepers who enjoy a heavier duvet pressing down on them, and washing a super king at home is not a task I’m rushing to repeat. The corner loops are clever rather than flawless too, as the ties either need a firm knot or occasional readjustment.

Those grumbles haven’t dented the overall experience. It lives up to its name, feels exceptionally comfortable and has earned its place on our bed.
