Harvey Nichols Fragrance Advent Calendar 2026 review: “It should especially appeal to rose lovers”

Harvey Nichols has finally arrived with 12 doors, a rose-heavy niche scent edit and a £175 price tag. I’ve checked out the line-up against the perfumes I already love to see whether it smells like a treat or a very expensive leap of faith.

My rating:
What I like
  • An interesting mix of niche and cult fragrance houses

  • Rose, amber, musk and spice run through the edit

  • Generous 25ml, 30ml and 50ml bottles among the smaller discoveries

  • A refillable atomiser I’d actually keep and use

  • Smart reusable packaging that complements the main beauty calendar

What I don't like
  • £175 is a lot for a 12-day calendar

  • Molecule 01 feels familiar

  • A car fragrance is useful, but it still has a whiff of filler

  • Fragrance is highly personal, so every blind buy carries a risk

What Mumsnet users say

My verdict

Harvey Nichols kept fragrance fans waiting this year, then turned up with a calendar that feels rather more considered than its late entrance suggests. For £175, you get 12 days of niche and luxury fragrance discoveries with a claimed value of more than £700.

With four full-sized inclusions, the line-up is rose-heavy, musky, woody and warm, which is excellent news for me. My regular perfume rotation includes Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb, Chanel Coco Mademoiselle and Fugazzi Angel Dust. In other words, I like florals with presence, amber warmth, a little sweetness and enough musk to cling to a scarf long after I’ve forgotten where I left it.

The closed silver-grey calendar box with two front doors, the Harvey Nichols name in black handwritten-style script at the top left and three black ink splatters at the bottom right

Slide off the sleeve and you get a plain grey box with two doors, finished with the brand name and ink splatters

That points me towards Ex Nihilo Spiky Muse, Thameen The Cora and Mizensir Ambre Magique. Spiky Muse mixes rose with strawberry, pistachio, amber and woods, which sounds like 2026’s grown-up gourmand trend behaving itself. The Cora has florals and a musky amber trail, while Ambre Magique brings cardamom, mandarin, vanilla, woods and musk.

It feels current without chasing every trend like an intern with a clipboard. There are close-to-the-skin scents, dark spicy roses, amber, musk, fruit and just enough gourmand warmth.

Not everything is an obvious match for me. Molecule 01 and D.S. & Durga I Don’t Know What are deliberately understated and abstract, which can feel a bit meagre beside the richer floral-amber perfumes I usually wear. The D.S. & Durga car fragrance is fun, but it’s also the sort of inclusion that makes you say ‘technically fragrance’.

The calendar with both doors open, showing 12 drawers in dark and light grey in different sizes, each with a hand-painted number in white or black

Open the doors and there are 12 drawers in mixed sizes and two shades of grey, one for each day of fragrance

The presentation helps. Its design complements the Harvey Nichols Beauty Advent Calendar, but the bow motif on the front gives this smaller box a slightly more festive feel. It’s still restrained enough to reuse throughout the year without making the room look as though Christmas has staged a sit-in.

I can see this working for somebody who already enjoys niche perfume, or wants to graduate from the usual designer minis. It’s expensive and a little divisive, but the bigger bottles and interesting brands stop it feeling like a box of costly samples.

How I’ve tested the Harvey Nichols Fragrance Advent Calendar

I’ve had the calendar for more than a week, giving me plenty of time to inspect the packaging, open every drawer and properly nose through the fragrance line-up. I’ve only worn a couple of the perfumes on my skin so far, so my thoughts on the others are based on their notes and how closely they match the scents I usually enjoy.

My top fragrance picks from this year’s calendar

1. Ex Nihilo Spiky Muse Eau de Parfum

Rose, strawberry and pistachio sound sweet on paper, but the amber and woods should stop Spiky Muse wandering into cupcake territory. It’s the closest match here to the floral sweetness I enjoy in Flowerbomb, with a more modern, slightly stranger edge. This is the one I reached for first.

2. Thameen The Cora Extrait de Parfum

At 50ml, The Cora is one of the calendar’s most generous bottles. Its floral opening and musky amber base sit neatly between Coco Mademoiselle’s polished warmth and the soft, addictive musk I love in Fugazzi Angel Dust. It sounds luxurious without being too polite.

3. Mizensir Ambre Magique Eau de Parfum

Cardamom, mandarin, florals, bourbon vanilla, woods and musk are well aligned with my preferences. Ambre Magique has warmth, spice and sweetness, but enough structure to keep things grown-up. If it smells as good on skin as it reads, the 8ml bottle may prove irritatingly easy to finish.

The fragrances least likely to suit me

Escentric Molecules Molecule 01 and D.S. & Durga I Don’t Know What are the two biggest question marks for me in this year’s edition. Both sit in the skin-scent, scent-enhancer world: subtle, woody and designed to interact with the wearer rather than announce themselves from the other side of a restaurant.

First impressions of the Harvey Nichols Fragrance Advent Calendar

The fragrance calendar arrived at the same time as the beauty version and the two clearly belong together. The artwork feels recognisably Harvey Nichols, while the bow design on the front makes the fragrance box arguably the more festive of the pair.

Left: a smiling woman with blonde hair holding the glossy black bow design on the grey calendar sleeve up to the camera. Right: close-up of the calendar’s drawers, numbered 1, 7, 12, 9, 6, 10, 4, 2 and 11, in dark and light grey

The bow on the sleeve has a glossy finish, and the numbers on the drawers look hand-painted

With only 12 days, it’s smaller than the main calendar and much easier to find room for. The restrained design earns its keep after Christmas too. Fill it with perfume samples, make-up or the tiny objects every household somehow accumulates, and it won’t look like forgotten festive décor in March.

How many full-size products are in the Harvey Nichols Fragrance Advent Calendar?

Harvey Nics says four of the inclusions are full size. I’ve raised one eyebrow. The obviously generous bottles are Vyrao Free 00 at 30ml, Thameen The Cora at 50ml and Granado Amazônico at 25ml. There’s also a refillable Harvey Nichols atomiser and a D.S. & Durga auto fragrance, both technically full sized, I suppose.

Is the Harvey Nichols Fragrance Advent Calendar good value?

At £175 for 12 days, this is not an impulse purchase unless your impulses have access to a very healthy credit limit. Divided by the 15 listed inclusions, it works out at roughly £12 per item, or £15 per day.

Harvey Nichols claims the contents are worth more than £700. The 50ml Thameen bottle and larger Vyrao and Granado fragrances do much of the heavy lifting, while the smaller niche scents let you try expensive houses without committing to a full bottle you may later resent.

Angled view of the open calendar with several drawers pulled out, showing a green box inside drawer 7 and fragrance boxes in drawers 2 and 10

Each drawer slides out to reveal a fragrance inside, and the smaller drawers hold slimmer boxes

Mumsnet users are understandably watching for a reduction. HolidayHattie said it would need “a big discount” to tempt her, and Lurkingshark would also buy at the right price. That caution makes sense. Fragrance is a riskier blind purchase than a calendar full of mascara and moisturiser because disliking the scent rather ruins the entire point.

Who should buy the Harvey Nichols Fragrance Advent Calendar?

This is one for fragrance enthusiasts who enjoy discovery and don’t mind a bit of experimentation. It should especially appeal to rose lovers, along with anyone drawn to amber, musk, woods, spice and modern skin scents.

If you want familiar designer blockbusters, very sweet gourmands or 24 separate doors, this is not your calendar.

Final verdict: is the Harvey Nichols Fragrance Advent Calendar worth £175?

The Harvey Nichols Fragrance Advent Calendar has more personality than the usual parade of tiny designer bottles. Its rose, amber, musk and spice-heavy line-up feels current, while Ex Nihilo, MATIERE PREMIERE, Thameen, Mizensir and NISHANE give perfume fans something worth nosing through.

The fragrance calendar sits alongside Harvey Nichols’ bigger Beauty Advent Calendar for 2026

It has its duff notes. Molecule 01 will feel familiar to seasoned calendar buyers, the car fragrance is unlikely to be anybody’s Advent fantasy and Harvey Nichols could be much clearer about which four products it counts as full size. At £175, it’s easy to see why some Mumsnet users view it as the fallback rather than first choice.

The generous Thameen, Vyrao and Granado bottles, reusable atomiser and varied niche edit outweigh the padding for me. It’s not a safe blind buy, but it’s a far more interesting one than most. Four stars.
