My verdict of the Benefit beauty Advent calendar

Benefit has been in my makeup bag for years. My girlfriends love it, my mum loves it and the brand’s They’re Real! mascara has been my go-to since my early twenties. That familiarity makes Hotel Beneville an enjoyable calendar to open, but it also means I know exactly which products I’ll use and which will be heading to a friend.

The case is the star this year. It’s unmistakably Benefit, properly committed to the Hotel Beneville theme and fun without needing its own side table. It also feels worth keeping. A teenager could use it for makeup, while a younger child would happily fill it with assorted treasures and carry it around the house.

Inside, there are plenty of recognisable Benefit staples. Hoola bronzer was a welcome opening after I’d recently run out of bronzer, the 24-HR Brow Setter is a favourite I’ve previously used up far too quickly and the eye masks are the sort of treat I enjoy - plus, my purse has already claimed the mirror.

The theming is great this year IMO

Admittedly, five mascaras is a lot - even for me - and I was disappointed to find They’re Real! in a fun size when it’s the formula I’ve used for years. Both Shade 3 brow products are too light and warm for me, and the POREfessional skincare won’t earn much bathroom space either.

£149 is a lot for a calendar with only four full sizes. Benefit devotees will get more from it than occasional users, but I’m sticking at four stars. The case is excellent, the makeup is familiar and it’s an easy gift. The value is harder to defend.

How I’ve tested the Benefit Hotel Beneville calendar

I received the Benefit Hotel Beneville beauty Advent calendar to review for our 2026 guide. I checked the packaging and build, opened every compartment and looked at the sizes, shades, product mix and value. I also tried familiar products from my usual routine, including They’re Real! mascara, Hoola bronzer and 24-HR Brow Setter, and checked how the fixed shades worked with my colouring.

My colleague Charlotte has tested this year’s edition too. She also thought it would suit a teenager building a makeup collection, although the fixed shades and small number of full sizes narrow its appeal.

My skin is dry and sensitive. I’m already familiar with Benefit’s makeup, but I’m less enthusiastic about its pore-focused skincare and haven’t made long-term performance claims for products I’ve only just opened.

What’s in the Benefit beauty Advent calendar?

The Hotel Beneville contains 24 products and accessories. Benefit divides them into four full sizes, seven minis, 10 fun sizes and three extras.

My top picks from Benefit’s Advent calendar

1. Hoola bronzer

Benefit’s bronzers have been long-term favourites of mine, so finding a Hoola mini just after I’d run out felt less like discovery and more like timely stock control. It’s familiar, useful and will be finished.

2. 24-HR Brow Setter

I’ve used this before and got through it quickly. It keeps unruly brows in place when I’m overdue a threading appointment, and the clear formula avoids the shade problem created by the two tinted brow products.

3. They’re Real! mascara

They’re Real! has been my go-to mascara since my early twenties. I’ll use every drop, although finding my favourite in fun size while other Benefit mascaras receive larger billing was mildly irritating.

4. Eye Gotta Glow eye masks

I love an eye mask, so these won’t sit forgotten in a drawer. They add a welcome change of pace to a calendar dominated by mascara, brows and complexion makeup.

5. Mirror

Some people will call it filler, but mine went straight into my purse and has already earned its place, which is more than I can say for several much more expensive calendar inclusions.

And my least useful products

The POREfessional products are the weakest fit for me. My skin is dry and sensitive and pore-focused primers and skincare aren’t what I reach for, so I’ll probably regift them. Benetint isn’t a personal favourite either, while both tinted brow products are too light and warm for the darker, ashier finish I prefer.

First impressions of the Hotel Beneville calendar

Hotel Beneville looks exactly like a Benefit Christmas release should: bright, playful and fully committed to its theme. It isn’t enormous, which makes it easier to display than some of this year’s table-hogging calendars.

The case arrived intact with no crushed doors or damaged products. It feels sturdy and the handbag design gives it a life after December, even though the internal segments are fixed. A teenager could use it for a beauty stash, while a younger child would almost certainly fill it with toys and carry it around the house.

There is one practical catch. Open it flat with both sides lowered together, like a book or suitcase. If one side is opened while resting on top of the other, the inner boxes can fall out. Once you know, it’s easy enough, but it’s not an elegant first lesson.

How many full-sized products are there in Benefit’s calendar?

There are four: BADgal BANG! mascara, 24-HR Brow Setter, Benetint and Cookie highlighter. That’s the same number Benefit included in its 2024 calendar.

Four recognisable full sizes give the calendar some substance, but they still represent only one-sixth of its 24 contents. I’d have liked Benefit to promote at least one or two more favourites to full size, particularly given the £149 price.

Benefit calendar: Are there any fragrances?

No. This is a makeup-led calendar with a small amount of skincare and three accessories. Anyone hoping for perfume, body care or a broader beauty mix should look elsewhere.

What about the makeup shades?

The clear 24-HR Brow Setter is the most universal brow inclusion, but the two tinted products are both fixed at Shade 3. They’re too light and warm for me because I prefer a darker, ashier brow.

The calendar also fixes the cheek colours: Hoola Original, Shellie, Crystah, Willa, Benetint and Cookie. That gives you variety within Benefit’s range, but not the freedom to choose shades that suit your skin tone. It’s worth checking the colours before buying this as a gift.

Are there any hair products?

No haircare products are included. The hair clips are the only hair-related inclusion and are classed as one of the three extras.

Is the Benefit Advent Calendar good value?

Benefit charges £149 and states that the contents are worth more than £300. On the minimum stated value, that’s a saving of at least £151, or just over 50%, and works out at around £6.21 per door.

The headline saving sounds strong, but usefulness matters more than theoretical RRP. Five mascaras are handy if you enjoy comparing formulas, or enough repetitive padding to leave you supplied until the next decade. The same applies to the brow and POREfessional products.

This isn’t the best-value calendar I’ve tested in 2026. Four full sizes feel lean for £149 and the fixed shades cut the usable value again. A die-hard Benefit fan who’ll use the mascaras, cheek products and POREfessional range will get much more for their money.

Who should buy the Benefit Advent calendar?

It’s best for existing Benefit fans, makeup lovers and younger gift recipients. The branding is fun, the products are recognisable and the smaller sizes make it possible to test several formulas without buying each one separately.

Charlotte and I both think it would make an excellent gift for a teenager starting a beauty collection. I’d consider buying it as a present. For myself, there’s too much I’d pass on to friends and not enough full-size favourites to make £149 feel comfortable.

How does the 2026 calendar compare to previous editions?

Benefit hasn’t reinvented its formula. The 2024, 2025 and 2026 calendars all contain 24 items, with familiar repetition across mascara, brows and cheek products. The 2024 calendar cost £156 and was worth £295. We didn’t review last year’s edition, but the Glam Cube was priced at £135 with three full sizes and a claimed value of more than £266. This year’s calendar sits between them at £149, with four full sizes and a claimed value of more than £300.

The size mix tells a similar story. The 2024 calendar contained four full sizes, five minis and 15 fun sizes. In 2025 that changed to three full sizes, seven minis, 11 fun sizes and three extras. This year Benefit has swapped one fun-size product for a full size, leaving seven minis, 10 fun sizes and three extras. The fourth full size is welcome, although the mirror and hair clips still won’t hold the same value for everyone.

Packaging remains a Benefit strength. The 2024 pink supermarket basket gave way to 2025’s colourful, Rubik’s Cube-inspired Glam Cube. Hotel Beneville changes direction again with a handbag-style case that’s easier to reuse than last year’s puzzle-box design.

I prefer this year’s theme, but Benefit hasn’t solved the familiar problem. Fans get plenty of old favourites; anyone hoping to discover new brands will have more fun with a multi-brand calendar.

Final verdict: is this the beauty Advent calendar for you this year?

This one will land best with die-hard Benefit fans and younger beauty lovers. It’s fun, familiar and brilliantly presented. I’d find £149 harder to justify if, like me, you won’t use the pore-focused skincare or the fixed brow shades.

The calendar's a good choice if you're an existing Benefit fan

There’s enough here that I’ll use, especially Hoola, 24-HR Brow Setter, They’re Real!, the eye masks and the mirror. There’s also enough repetition to stop it reaching five stars. Five mascaras, two unsuitable brow shades and a pore range I’m unlikely to touch make £149 feel steep, despite the impressive claimed saving.

As a gift, it makes far more sense. It looks exciting, offers a full 24-day countdown and gives a younger makeup fan a broad tour of one of Britain’s best-known beauty brands. My verdict is four out of five.
