The headline seems to be accurate - the £1 million was paid to a single person

How much have they wasted in total?

200k a year for 5 years to provide advice? Wow. Good work if you can get it!

The Scottish Government and other publicly funded bodies in Scotland behave as though they have unlimited funds to spend on their ideological hobby horses. This particular payment is so outrageous that I'd say that it should be investigated. I assume that the person concerned will have been working far less than full time to produce human rights advice to one public body over a 5 year period.
Getting independent all-round legal advice from a good law firm would have been the obvious way to go and would have cost a small fraction of that price.

No wonder that face is grinning from ear to ear!

If the advice given is contrary to UK law, can they ask for the money back?

whoever was stupid enought to pay for bad advice should apologise and resign. The advisor did what they were paid to do, the fact they don’t know that they are talking about falls under the due diligence of the person who decided to pay them.

I seem to have missed the reporting of the action Police Scotland is taking to identify and re-train, discipline or otherwise deal with the person responsible for the breach of policy of releasing - and recording? - incorrect, misleading information about the sex of the suspect in this case.

Easy mistake to make - clearly it is more important for a government to have a trans-sport committee than one for transport. No one really cares about the roads or the trains being on time, transport is just not a hot topic.

The Scottish Daily Express asked for all minutes/notes from internal meetings about this recording the correct sex of rapists, and the correct recording of suspects' sex and were told that these don't exist. The force said: "The Chief Constable and Assistant Chief Constable for Policing Together attended meetings on 6th, 10th and 11th of November 2025 which involved discussions relating to sex and gender data recording.

"The Assistant Chief Constable for Policing Together also attended meetings on 4th November 2025, 27th January 2026, 6th & 7th February 2026 and 4th March 2026 where sex and gender data recording was discussed. Please note, the meetings may have included discussions around Sex & Gender data recording. Furthermore, these meetings were ad hoc and minutes were not taken."

The statement is worded a little oddly. Is the implication that notes were not taken in the second block of meetings but could have been taken in the first?

In the second block of meetings we are only told of one attendee (the Assistant Chief Constable for Policing Together) is the implication that they were talking to themselves?

Seems like a lot of high level meetings taking place with not a lot of notes being taken.

So, it's so important that it deserved a 9rice tags that gob smacked a human rights expert but also so trivial it was decided in 'ad hoc' meetings that weren't minuted. Perhaps they chatted while sharing a lift or waiting for the kettle to boil.

Eight meetings (8!) attended by a Chief & Assistant Chief Constable about policy and none were minuted / recorded in any way?

Just shows how incompetent they are if this is how they work. Or maybe they're being economical with the truth?

Or that they don't want a paper trail showing that they are biased and or breaching the Nolan principle
