My teen dc like to go shopping in the area. We're currently abroad on holiday so they are obviously not there today, but I know how worried I'd be seeing the headlines had the met up with friends in the area which they so often.

Looking at the photos in the DM article and checking google maps streteview, it appears the stabbings occurred right outside of 83 Endell Street in London, a hostel providing supported accommodation and care services for homeless individuals with complex needs. Reportedly and allegedly the victims were attacked with scissors so not a typical 'male' kind of weapon.

Make of this what you will.

*It shouldn't need saying here, but regardless, all thoughts prayers and sympathies to the victims, no matter the nature of the assailant."

Was this the first post to express sympathy with the men who have been stabbed?

Whereas the first post hints at disbelief that the male victims were unable to disarm their attacker, which has undercurrents of victim blaming....

I think it was. However, it does begin "It shouldn't need saying here", as I take the humanity and empathy here as a given.

Really? Then why did you make this post? If you care about the victims, you wouldn't create a thread for "speculation".

Is Netmums down ?

Deflecting with snark doesn't change the point; weaponizing a tragedy before the police have even named a suspect isn't debate, it's just agenda-posting. If you actually cared about the victims, you'd wait for facts.

Seriestwo · 05/08/2026 16:32

BBC says two victims sent home, 2 have, effectively, minor injuries. For the benefit of the monitors I’ll loudly add THESE MEN WILL BE PHYSICALLY OK AND THAT IS GREAT NEWS. For the point of the thread - goes to show that women can’t do significat harm to men even with a pair of scissors. The harm the BBC has done to its own reputation and trust is marked. www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cn0nk17881yo

Try reading the thread again, because it is clearly NOT about blaming victims or assuming that no women can be capable of violent behaviour.
It is about the fact that the BBC is no longer a trusted news source. Well, not in my house, anyway, without checking with at least two other sources.
(That's before we consider how much news it actually bothers to report on at all.)

GreyskySexRealistsky · 05/08/2026 15:55

It won't, thanks.

Ten years ago it wouldn't have occurred to people to speculate on someone's sex as reported in the media.

A decade of lying has got us where we are.

Unfortunately I agree with this.
Having learned that it's suspected to have been a locally known woman experiencing homelessness and with MH issues, I find it feasible. But my initial thought was that it was another man with a female gender identity.
And that is down to repeated inaccurate and misleading media coverage.

Ah, I see the problem here. I can hold two different ideas at the same time.

I guess it's a curse.

St Mungo's has been named. Anyway, seeing this happened right outside the centre, it's likely connected.

Nitgel · 05/08/2026 16:21

There is a real increase of homeless people with mh issues in central london. Its depressing.

I think the Mayor changed their designation to 'unhoused' or 'houseless' or something as equally meaningless, either way there are no 'homeless people' in London any more, the Mayor says so.

BunnyLake · 05/08/2026 16:43

Velvera · 05/08/2026 15:49

It was a homeless women with MH issues who was known to local businesses.

Don't let that stop your speculation though.

It’s justified scepticism though isn’t it. People didn’t come to be sceptical for no good reason. Blame the media and police for their history of trying to pull the wool over people’s eyes and being so dishonest.

There's a difference between healthy media skepticism and making up facts about a live crime because the news hasn't confirmed your specific bias yet. If the BBC isn't reliable enough for you, which 'trusted sources' are you using to verify details about an active investigation before the police have even released a statement?

HotGrapefruit · 05/08/2026 16:45

I think I know the suspect as I spend some time in that area and she has approached me on a few occasions. Clearly very unwell. Tiny but looks drug-addled and is very intimidating.

You're missing the point.
Nobody has made up any facts.
It's about the word "woman" and whether the reports actually do mean Adult Human Female or a bloke who feelz like a lady.
A few years ago we wouldn't have thought to question it, and now we do.
Why is that?

HotGrapefruit · 05/08/2026 16:48

Hmm no I've seen the images and it's not the woman I'm thinking of. There are a lot of very unwell homeless people in the Endell St hostel though.

Sorry, I meant to start this thread in FWR, not AIBU

I'll ask for it to be moved. It seems to have confused some.

Who's making up facts, all I'm reading are people lamenting the fact that when you her a report about a woman committing a crime, or in any other capacity for that matter, nobody trust that it is a women their talking about.

Assuming every crime involving a female suspect is secretly a trans woman until proven otherwise isn't "questioning the news". It's an unhealthy obsession. You didn't wait for any facts; you jumped straight to a conspiracy theory because you're so fixated on trans people that you start imagining they're involved in crimes even when there's no evidence at all.

Nobody trusts it's a woman' because a small group of people are completely obsessed with trans people and choose to invent secret cover-ups on every thread. Pretending that self-induced paranoia is 'just asking questions' doesn't make it fact.

No, you are wrong. Dial down the outrage!

It is questioning whether the reports are using the word "woman" accurately.

Nothing to do with unhealthy obsessions, conspiracy theories, being fixated on trans people or anything else you are hyperventilating about.

It's a good thing to question the media.

More that it would be an unusual woman who couldn't be overpowered by 4 men, but yes my post was poorly expressed.

Yes, but the men were apparently random people walking past, they were not in a group known to each other, the initial reaction would be to get away from the attacker unless trained to react/disarm an attacker? With a scissors you could have walked on a bit before noticing that you had been attacked?

IlikethoseBalenciagas · 05/08/2026 16:58

Same thought here. The media and police have lied so many times about this sort of stuff.

Although, yes, a very unstable woman lashing out in rammed Covent Garden could easily stab four men quickly in a few seconds.

SodThisHeadache · 05/08/2026 17:02

I expect you didn't immediately trust the reporting because of this (these are only the ones I know of):

Male crimes reported as female crimes by the BBC:
Hollie/Ryder Hansom
Nicole/Kobi Earle
Joanna Rowland-Stuart (we don't even know his previous name but he murdered his partner with a machete)
Scarlet Blake/Fangze Wang
Nathan/Naomi O'Brien
Isobel Murphy
Zara Jade
Zoe/Kyle Watts
Jessica/Alan Brennan
Debra/Christopher Wright
Katie Birtles/ Robert O'Farrell

You can google these and you'll find there are murderers, paedophiles, rapists and a transwoman who stole nappies out of a bin and smeared their contents o around the site of a nursery. I know I stopped mindlessly trusting the BBC (and police forces such as Lincs, Notts and the Met who send out lying press releases) when they started this nonsense at the say-so of transactivist groups such as Stonewall and Press for Change.

Glad the victims of this knife attack seem to be physically on the mend.

A hell if a lot topics is the answer.
From politics to the way our very warm summer is never reported as a climate change isdue etc etc…
See Gaza p, the war with Iran etc etc etc….

So no it’s not just a gender/sex/trans issue here

Saying that the BBC don't report on weather without any mention of climate change, is like saying the BBC never talk about a licence fee.

Nearly all reports on extreme weather mention climate change.

Telling people to 'dial down the outrage' while you panic that every news report using the word 'woman' is secretly lying to you is top-tier irony.
According to official Ministry of Justice prison data, trans people make up roughly 0.3% to 0.4% of the entire prison population in England and Wales. Out of tens of thousands of offenders, it is statistically microscopic. Pretending that every reported female crime is secretly a trans person isn't 'questioning the media'.It's pure statistical delusion driven by an online obsession
