Croeso/Welcome to the Bluestocking Women's Pub, with our lovely gerbil staff, the icy Mojito foot-bath for those of you fed up with the heat, a Quilting/Craft Nook, lots of yummy food and drink with zero calories, gluten, or allergens, the Gerbil World Cup, and a brand new magic pool that becomes a babbling brook whenever you want it to!

Come on in! All women welcome! (Men welcome at The Staunch Ally pub down the road aways)

(security provided by the capybaras, lovely folk, but try not to get in their way)

(oh, and don't mention triangles, please. Gubbins gets very overexcited)

(did we mention the Gerbil World Cup?)

On a rather random incursion in to the current conversations, my hedgehog daughter is fielding the idea that we all ought to go to centar parks for three nights to celebrate grand hoglettes fifth birthday.

well last time we went our bedroom was strategically positioned next to the dining area, to ensure the grand hogs would have to get up, at an impossibly early time, and parents could have a niace lie in.

Was so fucking tired by day three, i snook in to the laundry cupboard and had a jolly good kip there.

the second issue is the Portuguese outlaws will be invited they do not speak any English, and the grand mother AVO wants to compete with me.

I cannot blame her BTW

Sooo it is my very worst nightmare.

Hedgehogforshort · 27/07/2026 19:42

Golly i just realised i have an AIBU thread in the making..

EmpressaurusKitty · 27/07/2026 19:44

You do!

Can you & Mr Hedgehog realistically get a lodge or cabin or whatever to yourselves? Or at least insist on getting first pick of the bedrooms?

In further bad news, the oven in the holiday cottage has incinerated dinner. Ten minutes and the pies were burnt on top. I haven't found a visitors book yet, but I will be looking for it, so I can leave a "beware the oven" message.

Admittedly this is minor bad news compared to other things, but this dratted oven has been irritating me ever since we arrived. Apparently the toaster has similarly incendiary tendencies.

That sounds like a very bad idea in an ancient house which looked rather flammable (unless it’s damp but this summer it won’t be).

It's raining! Well, it's drizzling. Actually, it's more like a lot of cloud and some mist, with a breeze thrown in.

But, it's definitely water falling from the sky! 😃💧

Yes… I went out for a walk with a delicate misting on my face and returned in light drizzle. I rather enjoyed it.

Misting for free how wonderful

Oh, so not just me, then! I always just thought it was something posh, European, and forrin that I wasn't getting.

It really is a very "interesting " choice for a brand name for things to do with food.

<snigger>

I had to look it up - of course it’s an initialism, Smalterie Metallurgiche Emiliane Guastalla, ‘Emilian Guastalla Metallurgical Enamelling Works’

DauntlessDamson · 27/07/2026 19:53

Sorry to hear about the interview Myrtle, the job market truly is a horrible place to be at the moment.

I hope you had an alternative option for dinner Magpie. I don't like to think of you all going hungry.

When my family insist on a general get-together, Hedgehog, I always insist on having my own space. Much as I love them, I can only cope with them in limited doses!

Fantastic! It really, really doesn't work in English, does it? (neither does EGMEW)

I suppose we're all just used to it now.

On your second point directed at me, (thankyou)

my daughter has a view “that the child needs a village” until it does not suit.

She is a bossy fucker and i only have myself to blame.

Very flammable, we got pages and pages of fire hazard warnings when the booking was finalised. Rightfully so, of course, but you'd think they might be more aware of the state of the appliances. We're strictly forbidden from flambéing anything. Which is a shame because that's always the main thing one wants to do when on holiday, I'm sure you'll agree?

I would be very surprised if their appliances would pass inspection, and therefore their insurance might be invalid. How on earth did they get insurance to rent out, on a various basis (rather than one set tenant), a house as old and flammable as that?

I hope they at least have working smoke alarms, Magpie?

At least one in every room. I wouldn't touch the place if I was an insurance company - half the plug sockets are so old they're round pin jobs. I assume there must be a specialist insurer for places like this, and the owners must be paying through the nose for the privilege.

I’ll start packing up the crafts room.

Well, that went quickly, didn't it? I've actually come to bed very early because I'm either exhausted or not feeling very well. So, for the first time, I might miss the move!

Could somebody please remember to book the moving tractor for all the craft stuff? And risk life and limb by reminding Carmela and the other camels that they'll be moving again? Do we have to take all the Gerbil World Cup paraphernalia, or just a few momentos? (Griselda will want her award!)

And if someone could leave some instructions nailed to the front door (outside, please!) so I'll know where you all went? Rather like Martin Luther ...

(just in case I fall asleep before the Big Move)

Thank you! 💛

I'm likely to go to bed fairly soon too, it's hard work relaxing!

Tractors are here. The gerbils have decided to go old-school.

Sleeping in the Nook at the new place, I found it ok. No need to nail directions to the door now 😀

Noswaith dda, everyone, have a good evening!

Carmela and her sisters are packed up and ready. They will amble along to the next location at their own pace and woe betide anyone who tries to hurry them along!

A couple of them hitched a lift with the tractor convoy, which I thought wasn't really in the spirit...
