Keir Starmer has now signed the 'trans pledge

Every Labour leadership candidate has now signed a document that says women meeting to discuss women's issues is 'hateful' and something that must be 'fought against'.

That isn't the same pledge.

Lollygaggles · 13/02/2020 10:29

Has he now signed the Translabour pledge as well? I knew he'd signed the LGBT+ one

CaptainKirksSpikeyGhost · 13/02/2020 10:29

Typical

ThinEndoftheWedge · 13/02/2020 10:32

If they are all thought transwomen were women then they would sign the women’s pledge - after all there would be no differences between women and trans women.

Ooh surprise, they haven’t done that.

Labour, TRAs all can tell the difference between transwomen and women.

Women don’t count. Transwomen do count. It’s Labour Policy now. Trans women aren’t women, they are superwomen.

CaptainKirksSpikeyGhost · 13/02/2020 10:32

Remember when the MP's said they would speak up before any drastic changes happened, i can't hear them?
Labour: No women, No Jews, theoretical socialism for everyone else.

Barracker · 13/02/2020 10:39

I'm currently not on twitter
How does one trans pledge differ from the other?
And how many fecking trans pledges does labour need?
And how many of the leaders have refused to sign the women's pledge, which predated these ones?
I'm sure they should be able to sign them now they've announced there's 'no conflict' between women's rights and the rights of people who aren't women but have cooler, more signable pledges

TimeLady · 13/02/2020 10:45

Keir Starmer

@Keir_Starmer

These pledges and
@LGBTLabour
have my full support. I stand in full solidarity with our LGBT+ members and the wider community, will defend LGBT+ rights and protections, and campaign with you for the changes rightly prioritised here. Look forward to the hustings!

We're asking each of the Labour Leader and Deputy Leader candidates to sign up to our 10 pledges that we believe are vital to protecting and extending the rights of LGBT+ people in the Labour party and in wider society.

This is what we're asking for

Of course there is a conflict when someone attempts to occupy your space and claim it as their own.....It is called colonisation.

The idea that trans people don't have the same civil rights as everyone else is a nonsense........what is being sought is additional rights to everyone else. the right to self declare one's legal identity and have the world conform.

Take that to its natural conclusion then equal rights would mean we could all identify as whatever we liked and it would be validated and protected by law.

WhatAGreatDay · 13/02/2020 10:45

The LGBT Pledge is a different one, but it does include allowing gender self-id. I don't think Labour actually wants to be in government.

BlueHarry · 13/02/2020 10:47

Labour are a mess. They're just a mess.

TheQueef · 13/02/2020 10:48

So he's the last, there is no one with any gc views to vote for?

Gertrudesgarden · 13/02/2020 10:50

Looks like I'm going to be politically homeless for the rest of my life. Oh how wonderful it is to live in these times, knowing that, for the crime of being born with a uterus, I am now a non-person.

It feels great.

exexpat · 13/02/2020 10:50

He's tweeted support for a more general LGBT pledge that includes GRA reform, but he seems to be steering clear of supporting the specifically Trans one from yesterday (he's a lawyer, maybe he can see that declaring a couple of organisations to be hate groups and calling for expulsions is not a good idea) so marginally better than RLB and the others but I have to say I am disappointed.

TimeLady · 13/02/2020 10:51

This is the one he supports:

Note: "I believe that transwomen are women", etc, etc

Keir Starmer has now signed the 'trans pledge
ClubfootMaestro · 13/02/2020 10:53

Hmmm. I’m still voting for him to be leader as the least bad option. This pledge does call for reform to the GRA and for self ID but stops short of the expulsion/hate group bullshit. He hasn’t signed the trans pledge, I expect deliberately. He has also in the past said it is a “finely balanced issue”. I think he has signed this as a half way house to try to make sure he maintains support in the party and gets elected as leader, but without going as far as that disgraceful misogynistic “trans pledge”.

Mossyrock · 13/02/2020 10:54

It's a wider set of pledges, this time throwing LGB in with the T.

He lost me at 'I will campaign to reform the Gender Recognition Act to introduce a self declaration process'.

Also pledges to campaign for the end of parental rights to remove children from sex and relationship classes. This does not sit well with a simultaneous campaign to end conversion therapy. Many lesbian, gay and bisexual people regard the transition of children and genderist woo taught in schools as conversion therapy.

jay55 · 13/02/2020 10:54

How can you end conversion therapy and support trans rights?

CaptainKirksSpikeyGhost · 13/02/2020 10:57

Also pledges to campaign for the end of parental rights to remove children from sex and relationship classes.

Which is one of the most frightening things that's tacked on to all of this.
Sex in the classroom will no doubt have Peter Tatchell rubbing his hands with excitement.

BaolFan · 13/02/2020 10:57

I think this is something that will quietly hit the long grass post-leadership contest.

It's a hot button issue now so they have all been good little sheep and signed it, because they can't risk a pile on now.

Doesn't make it right, but I'm not surprised he's done it - he couldn't afford to be the odd one out.

Gertrudesgarden · 13/02/2020 10:58

I'm surprised Labour politicians are still standing upright....most of them have tied themselves into so many knots trying to square the circle that I'm amazed they're not shaped like pretzels. It must be painful. I do so sincerely hope they all suffer from stress induced heartburn...

CaptainKirksSpikeyGhost · 13/02/2020 10:58

he couldn't afford to be the odd one out.

So you think a spineless follower who is pressured into things is the sign of a good leader?

Mossyrock · 13/02/2020 11:01

Which is one of the most frightening things that's tacked on to all of this.

I agree. It's chilling. With all the attacks on safeguarding I would 100 percent want to know what my kids are being taught in SRE and reserve the right to remove them from it.

jadefinch · 13/02/2020 11:04

How many of these ridiculous pledges are there?!

RLB just told Victoria Derbyshire a woman is someone who 'wants to identify as a woman'
