I love,

Make do and mend - making something nice out of old/tatty/battered.
Hand sewn and hand knitted blankets and cushion covers (even though I am shit at both knitting and sewing, I've had a go and the results are 'interesting' and certainly unique).

I love decoupage. I've transformed some really rough old furniture with it. Likewise distressing and paint techniques. I decorated my lounge on the cheap last week - two coats of emulsion on the walls, and distressed some old mirror frames and a bookcase with paint, sandpaper and wax boot polish - and it loos utterly fab if I do say so myself.

I love candles, baskets, throws, rugs, floaty voile curtains, old kitchenalia - biscuit tins, utensils, pots, pans, plates, jugs, even my cooker is old - and I mean original old not reproduction old.

My house is a sort of old Hippie, Shaker Style, late 80s/early 90s stencilly, rustic, Shabby Chic country cottage hotch potch.

Most people love it, or say they do, but frankly I don't give a shit what anyone else things, because I love it!

Fairy lights
Floor length curtains on curtain poles but I can't have them in my house Sad
Wallpaper - looks far more luxurious than bare painted walls
Thick carpets (thinking of having one in my bathroom)
Next furniture and accessories
And yes, UPVC windows - warm, draught-free and NO painting

Brick walls (as in decorative brick behind the oven etc) and real wood flooring.

I like the "back to basics" look when it's done well.

Forgot old fireplaces. We have two massive 17th century ones. They are plain and unfussy: the one downstairs contains a massive dog grate that came with the house and the upstairs one contains a multi fuel stove.

Jugs!

I have a thing about jugs.

They are such useful wonderful things - at least they were once back in ye olden days. Indespensable I would say.

It started when I found one chucked in a skip at the back of the charity shop I volunteered in. There was nothing wrong with it - not a chip, the manager had just chucked it in there because she couldn't be arsed to rinse it out before putting it on sale.

It is plain navy blue, but a lovely shape, so I stuck a pound in the collection box and took it home. I now have several and I use them to water my pots, for household tasks - rinsing and so on, I put flowers in them, use them as drink pitchers when I'm entertaining.

I love a jug!
