You've been in my house haven't ya?

I've got the lot - apart from the flowery wallpaper - although having said that - we did do one wall in the daughter's bedroom with flowery wallpaper, so I even tick that box.

Shock

From the Union Jack doormat in my front porch alongside the rusty watering can with flowers in it - to the tin heart hanging on my bin cupboard by the front door to the 'Home for the Harvest' wood sign thingy I bought in America 15 years ago hanging on the porch wall - you step into a painted furniture house with gingham table cloth and enamel coffee pot, old books, cushion and lots of vintage/rusty old strategically placed stuff.

Ah Fontella, I would love your house. We have CK Antique Rose wallpaper. It's been up 8 years, and I still love it as much as I did the day it went up. I feel anxious at the thought of ever having to replace it. "Shudder".

Bluntness100 · 17/07/2017 19:13

Yes, decorative hearts. I love mine. They are pretty and cheer the place up. One sparkles!

I've spotlights in the kitchen, bathroom and the bedrooms.

I've ikea beach furniture in my daughters room and I genuinely think it's nice,,,,

My house 'look' was born of necessity due to leaving the ex with NO MONEY - and we weren't married so I got sod all out of the house and as it turned out never even got child support from him.

I had to start again with two kids aged 4 and 6 with nothing, and it was all make do and mend and charity/secondhand shop stuff. I got some real bargains though, painted things, fixed things, improvised things and slowly but surely made us a cosy home.

Now the kids are grown up ( but still at home) and I'm better off financially - but I wouldn't change what I've got. I don't want new fancy stuff. Even if I came into loads of money, I wouldn't change my ways. I love painting and fixing and doing things up. Picking up bargains and making and mending. It's just what I like and I won't ever change.

Bluntness100 · 17/07/2017 19:27

I painted the spare room orange pine furniture with chalk paint, didn't distress it, but it's lovely in there, pale winter grey with white bedding,

Fontella, I'm the same (though my circumstances are different), I would always rather "discover something" in the charity shop or a car boot than I would buy it from a normal shop. Had some lovely stuff for pennies. There used to be a stall at the local big car boot..two men who did house clearances..they had such lovely things and would sell them for pennies. Every room in the house has a set of vintage, rusty kitchen scales, most of them cost £2 (but sell for loads more on ebay), courtesy of that stall..Old Roberts radios (not the new ones where the leatherette rips it you look at it the wrong way)..Old enamel bread bins, etc...I think the last thing I got was some utility china (another love), an old bottle of antiseptic (still half full), and a ration card. Happy days.

Fontella · 17/07/2017 19:29

Do you think we ought to post a few pics?

In particular I would very much like to see pics of jugs!

I too love jugs, but trays are becoming my thing for some reason! Bought two more yesterday.

SeashellsSeaShells · 17/07/2017 19:55

Grey! Grey! Grey! With pops of colour!

I'm rather partial to a tray too!

Grin

I particularly like those older style ones that have got a sort of wicker surround with handles and then a decorative panelled bottom - almost glass like.

Unfortunately I only own two trays and they are not of the right vintage/style, but they are nonetheless too nice to chuck out.

dontcallmelen · 17/07/2017 20:08

I love jugs & trays too, also pretty bone China plates & teacups.
I also have chalk painted furniture in my living/dining room, some of it was that dreadful orangey pine & battered dark wood couldn't afford to replace so painted, looks lovely.
Also have fairy lights & some heart decorations & pretty floral wallpaper in my kitchen/diner & distressed photo frames/mirror in pretty pastel colours.
Also have various small tables/cupboards dotted around painted in bright colours, I love rummaging in charity/house clearance type shops finding unusual & pretty things.

JaceLancs · 17/07/2017 20:26

I have to have very neutral walls carpet etc to compensate

JaceLancs · 17/07/2017 20:28

I love pottery - just some of my collection

From 1930s onwards
I also collect Victorian and Edwardian glass

Fontella · 17/07/2017 20:30

Wow! that is amazing!

I've got a sort of Welsh dresser type thing in my kitchen with a few bits and bobs in and I was going to post a picture of that, but I don't think I'll bother now.

Do you use some/all of it, or is it merely decorative?

dontcallmelen · 17/07/2017 20:35

@jace I am sooo envious of all that pretty pottery, I love Victorian glass too I have a couple of really pretty vases & those teardrop pink cut glass ornaments ( can't remember the correct name for them😳with little metal birds entwined around them on my mantelpiece.
