Another month has come around!

@fibrous you’re probably improving your agility hugely managing to run and not fall over them lol.
Did power yoga and SB Pilates practice from calendar yesterday, was nice at the time but am (unusually) feeling my hips a bit today so think I’ll do upper body focus today and give them a rest. My hypermobility is quite significant in my hips, I may have gone too far without realising.

Hello yogis! I thought the old thread had gone quiet. Still working through the YWA February calendar. Lots of breath work, which suits me at the moment.

Hello @Fibrousfellow parkrunner here!

Fibrous · 09/02/2025 21:10

@Poisonwood absolutely! They’re greyhounds and massive so when they stop in front of me it’s like running into a wall. And if I don’t get out of the way quick enough the boy pees on my leg. My agility gets a right workout.

hi @OhOneOhTwoOhThree ! We’re only just getting back into the parkrun after a long break. Not sure why, I forgot how fun/hard they are.

did a 40 minute yoga with Tim this eve which had a good few balancing things in it which I’m rubbish at, but it felt good all the same. Think I’m starting to get more out of yoga than just a stretch, daily practice is helping me understand the niggles more and helps me decide what exercise to do the day after (if any). My right hip seems a bit tetchy at the mo.

Poisonwood · 11/02/2025 08:29

@OhOneOhTwoOhThree hello 👋.

I had a lovely 1.5hr in-person class yesterday, breathwork was a focus; it was a very grounding practice. Did King Pigeon for first time, I’ll be doing that again.
Today has been an hour of SB power.

Fibrous · 11/02/2025 10:38

I'm working away at the moment so just some short Yoga with Tim stretches in between being out for meals and long work days. I'm feeling very stiff in my right leg so just been doing some basic flexibility stuff. Not helped by long car journeys!

Poisonwood · 11/02/2025 13:01

@Fibrous the older I get, the stiffer I am with car journeys however flexible I am generally. Hope the long work days are positive and productive.

I’ve just booked to start a new 2 hour Ashtanga Class each week from the 21st, I’m really happy as living as rurally as I do, there is very little yoga available. What’s more, the teacher is actually a good friend of mine who I rarely get to see nowadays so that’s nice too.

OP posts:
Poisonwood · 12/02/2025 18:54

30 min SB Burn, then 30 min pranayama and Sun A/B.

OP posts:
Fibrous · 12/02/2025 21:48

@Poisonwood yeah car journeys are bad, planes even worse. Long haul just ruins me these days!

nice to hear about the new yoga class. I’m semi rural but have recently discovered a Pilates class in our village, which has been great.

I did some yoga with Tim hatha yoga this evening after a very slow run with the dogs. Tried to sneak out without them but they stick to me like glue when I get back from work trips. I think my balancing is getting a bit better but there’s a long way to go.

Jumbojem · 12/02/2025 21:54

Just checking in. I did whatever was on the SB calendar on Monday but despite promising to myself I'd do yoga today, I just spent the eve sat doing nothing. Aiming to get an early start tomorrow to catch up, it's unlikely I'll ever do yoga on a Tuesday or Wednesday as office day and post work commitments. I feel so much stiffer after 2 days off, also notice I'm more grumpy! I think it's a combo of tiredness but also not having the time to just breathe and switch off your mind, it's the calming part I enjoy/need as much as the stretch part.

Poisonwood · 12/02/2025 22:03

@Jumbojem I’m exactly the same re calmness. In fact, my adult daughter told me she can tell just from looking at my face if I’ve done any yoga yet that day/done enough 😆.

OP posts:
Fibrous · 12/02/2025 22:11

I’m the same with running. If I leave it too long I’m hell to live with.

Jumbojem · 13/02/2025 15:15

I did SB Burn 30 mins this am, I was a bit concerned about the title/length but it was fine. This was the one with gorilla, which I'd done before but never heard the name before.

Poisonwood · 13/02/2025 18:12

Gorilla is a great name for it isn’t it! Did 5 slow ashtanga sun A and Bs concentrating on breath this morning. Will do the SB 20 min hips and back tonight.

I’ve been avoiding yoga this week as I’ve been under the weather ,looked at SB calendar & just thought no. Instead of subbing in like a sensible person. Got back on the mat today, subbing in because todays practice was a no,did a 10 min yoga stretch to wake up which was really nice and brought the yoga joy back

Jumbojem · 14/02/2025 21:37

I did the SB one from the other day, 20 mins of hip stretching. It was divine, there was a pretzel adaptation of the supine twist. I was amazed I could comfortably get into it, and how good it felt. Then I did the 5 min fit test which I can only describe as humbling. I came out of forearm plank and side plank before she did. Reminding myself I couldn't do side plank on both sides only a few weeks ago.

Poisonwood · 14/02/2025 22:02

@Yogachick glad you found the joy.
@Jumbojem the fit test is good for assessment isn’t it, we do have to remember how far we’ve come,

Did a Charlie Fellows video with headstands. Some A/B. Tomorrow I’m working on core, and writing out a plan for next month’s focus. I’m definitely nervous of starting Ashtanga, that maybe I won’t be fit enough.

Fibrous · 14/02/2025 22:47

I didn’t do anything today. No shame, just didn’t get around to it. Doing parkrun again in the morning so will need some yin in the evening no doubt with sore legs.

Katesboots · 15/02/2025 08:16

I do in person yoga and Pilates but can't always make it due to work commitments and can miss a few sessions in a row. Fortunately the classes I go to are very flexible and you only pay for the sessions you attend - it's a large class. I am considering online yoga and pilate sessions as I absolutely love both and really feel the benefits when I've been able to go a few weeks in a row. Id love to join this thread, who would you recommend? I'm still learning so nothing too advanced! Thanks!

Poisonwood · 15/02/2025 11:02

Hi @Katesboots 👋, welcome. A lot of people enjoy Yoga With Adriene when they are still learning. I personally find Sarah Beth Yoga far more peaceful as there’s less chatter and I love her cueing. You could see if anyone in your area has you tube videos if you want to support local.

OP posts:
Yogachick · 15/02/2025 16:02

SB 10 min for back strength followed by 20 min yoga stretch for athletes,I liked at the end when she said namaste, the athlete in me bows to the athlete on you. Not being much of an athlete I appreciate the sentiment

Katesboots · 16/02/2025 09:19

Hi @Poisonwood Thank you for those recommendations! I'll have a look at both Adrienne and Sarah Beth.

Fibrous · 16/02/2025 09:49

Hi 👋 @Katesboots

I'm no pro either, Im just getting into regular yoga and finding it very beneficial. I went to the occasional local class (which I now understand to be a restorative practice) until the yogi moved away, so now I just go every couple of months.

My boyfriend and I did a couple of classes by Charlie Follows last night, which we both really enjoyed for its lack of waffle and American accent. Might try some of her video sequences out.

Jumbojem · 16/02/2025 16:57

I like Charlie Follows for those reasons @Fibrous some of her practices were a bit tough for me though!
I am about to do today's yoga, did a long run earlier so need to decide between something to ease my aching legs or today's Sarah Beth calendar which I think might be a 10 min power yoga which doesn't sound too appealing on a Sunday Eve. Edging towards looking for some nice Yin stretches.

Fibrous · 16/02/2025 21:42

@Jumbojem well done on the long run. I’ve been stuck on sub 10ks for the last few years running with the dogs but want to do some long ones again. My DP is getting into fell races these days - the dogs don’t guilt him into running with them. I need to get him to take them out so I can escape the house without them.

one of them is ill so I was up walking her a few times during the night and had a crap day today, ate loads of rubbish which I’ll regret tomorrow as no doubt it’ll affect my haemorrhoids. But I did do another Charlie follows practice this eve to improve hamstring flexibility and was in a much better mood afterwards. So glad I got on the mat. The dog seems a bit better today too so hopefully she doesn’t need to go out during the night.

Poisonwood · 17/02/2025 08:21

@Fibrous hooe your dog had an okay night.

I did a lovely 40 min free flow yesterday, concentrating on core and breathing. I love just being able to have peaceful music on, no voices or screens. Today is my 1.5hr in-person class, can’t wait.
