Another month has come around!

I did 40 min power yoga and then practiced crow for a while. Don’t think it’ll ever come fully but it’s interesting to explore. I managed both feet off the ground for 3 seconds or so this time!

Poisonwood · 02/02/2025 21:31

30 min power/posture videos then Sun As for a while…lost count tbh. Tomorrow is my in-person class.

I did the next SB core practice. Forearm planks are worse than a full plank I think!
Thank you for the new thread. I know everyone says Jan went on forever but I feel it went quickly, but then when I think back to YWA Prana at the start of this year it feels like ages ago!

Fibrous · 03/02/2025 07:54

Morning, can I join please? I started daily practice in January and I’ve started to notice a difference by now. I’m finding the moves less tricky. I’m doing yoga at the gym this morning but at home I’ve been doing a mix of yoga with Adriene, Sarah Beth yoga, and yoga with Tim.

Jumbojem · 03/02/2025 09:47

Welcome @Fibrous great to hear it's making a positive difference for you!
I usually like to follow a mix of yogis too as I get a bit jaded following the same all the time. Generally Sarah Beth, YWA and Yoga with Kassandra for me. Although I have the SB app now so will probably be doing mostly her practices for now. Although I did look at the YWA Feb calendar and will do some on there which look interesting.

Yogachick · 03/02/2025 10:56

Welcome @Fibrous !
I did the 20 min Core Power in the morning then the live with SB yesterday.
The chatarunga practice bit is a killer for me, I can barely bend my arms before collapsing. Planks are improving though.
I uses to love a bit of crow & could do it easily, really feeling the lightness. Now I can just about get in position but lifting even a toe mail is out of the question😳I’m sure with practice I’ll be able to aspire to your lift @Poisonwood , in time

Fibrous · 03/02/2025 12:08

Thanks @Jumbojem - I used to only do YWA but I was a very infrequent yogi. Months could go by without me doing any. But now I'm injured so frequently I'm finding daily yoga just helping me make peace with that as well as make me feel better. I love a deep stretch! I'm chopping and changing between channels to find something that works for me but still feel like I don't have much of a plan. I've gone part time at work so I have time to heal, so have a lot more time on my hands these days to actually put into a routine.

@Yogachick I managed a two second toes lift in the crow at the gym the other day and was very pleased with myself. I think I need to dig out some videos on balance so I can practice. I've also got really poor lower body flexibility from years of running and cycling without stretching after.

My DP does yoga with me usually but he has just been dipping in and out these last two months, and I've left him for dust, now. Just goes to show doing a bit every day really works wonders!

Poisonwood · 03/02/2025 13:05

@Fibrous hello 👋. I used to do YWA but moved to SB as found her to have a lot less chatter and my body felt more all-round ahhhh after her practices. I really enjoy her live sessions too.

I've done today’s SB calendar video this morning before yoga later - I found January’s calendar such a great mix and am actually enjoying the discipline of following…I’m such a different person to how I was before yoga became a part of my life.

OP posts:
Yogachick · 03/02/2025 17:09

I repeated the Feb 1st Core practice before today’s Stretch one on SB calendar. I do love a booty drop stretch!

Jumbojem · 03/02/2025 19:50

I'm a runner @Fibrous and find regular yoga does keep the injuries at bay, although not entirely remove them. When I was inconsistent with yoga my shins, knees and hips complained. I'm planning to look up some ankle flexibility short practices as I think mine aren't as flexible as they could be and I'm hoping to do more trail running once the mud dries up a bit. I hope your recovery goes well, I keep asking my OH to join me as he also runs and permanently wears a knee support now. He isn't on board with the breathing and any talk about chakras and energy flows just switch him off.

Today's slow hips and hip flexor stretch was much needed but a bit painful at times, seated forward fold has always been a challenge with my stuff lower back and tight hamstrings.
As for crow, just getting my knees onto my upper arms is as far as I've managed, I would be over the moon if I managed it. Do you need strong arms or just getting the perfect balance?

Yogachick · 04/02/2025 12:20

@Jumbojem strong arms and core as well as balance for crow I think. Have you tried sitting on a cushion and bending your knees for seated forward fold? I have a dodgy lower back & have to remind myself every time to hinge from my hips to go forward, else I over extend & pull my back bending forward.
Today I did 5 mins abs then added 30 min Rinse practice. I had that one on my to do list after @Poisonwood did a 60 minute strength workout Rinse practice she enjoyed. Great recommendation,I really enjoyed everything about this one. The flow asana & pace, then to booty drop & skandasana,2 of my favourite poses. ( skandasana might help with ankles @Jumbojem ?) Another one to favourites.
As an extra, this morning I woke feeling very well, light & decongested in my hips & pelvis. I imagine this was helped by the hips practice yesterday, clearing out root & sacral chakra maybe, which is where I hold some of my childhood trauma. Just guessing but for someone whose default state is fatigued, clogged,in pain & unwell,it made a nice change🌻

Fibrous · 04/02/2025 14:57

Hi @Poisonwood ! How do SB's live sessions work? Can anyone join or is it just for app subscribers? I'd be interested in a live session but don't want to pay for anything at the mo as I already have an expensive gym membership!

Ha @Jumbojem - my DP is the same. The slightest mention of chakras and he's off. I don't know much about them myself but I like to think I'm a bit more open minded and spiritual than he is so currently this stuff just wafts over me until I understand the philosophy a bit more.

Poisonwood · 04/02/2025 19:14

@Yogachick booty drop is fantastic isn’t it. I’m glad you liked the recommendation. I’m glad you felt lighter today, feeling decongested in your hips is a brilliant term.

@Fibrous I’m pretty sure they are member only. It’s worth keeping an eye out at traditional Sales times, she does reduce prices regularly.

I had a superb yoga class last night, my hips felt drunk afterwards 😆. Today I did the SB calendar then an hour of mixed power videos. My physiotherapist told me today he wants me asking my teacher for advanced core work, so I need to get those SB videos added to favourites too.

The SB video for digestion (nice), her 5min fit test, followed this evening with an hour powyin practice. I do see improvement in the fit test, but can’t hold the ending side planks for the full length of time, I alternate them twice more. I’ll do it again in a few days.

OP posts:
Yogachick · 06/02/2025 06:29

Sb yoga for bloating and digestion

Fibrous · 06/02/2025 07:23

We did a thirty minute SB stretch yoga. It was my DPs first SB and he was complaining about all the chat. I need to find a ‘yoga for miserable men who hate talking about feelings’ channel for when he joins me. But anyway, felt good after.

is the SB fitness test a subscriber thing too?

Poisonwood · 06/02/2025 08:24

@Fibrous I just checked, it’s in her Warrior Series and member only. I find any of her videos that say (Min Cues) are less chatty but they also expect a knowledge of asana but might not work great for him yet. I find her far, far less chatty than Yoga With Adriene but you could try Kino Macgregor or Yoga with Kassandra for him…or there’s Yoga with Tim (not sure if his business name, sorry).

OP posts:
Poisonwood · 06/02/2025 17:46

60 min SB ENERGY power yoga, 20 min SB bedtime yoga tonight. It was a great mix of asanas, wanted to give up 2/3 of way through as tired today but persevered and glad I did.

OP posts:
Yogachick · 06/02/2025 20:40

Popped the 30 min Energy practice on my Watch Later playlist thanks @Poisonwood ,your recommendations are good.
I was rigged up to a monitor with tubes for 24 hrs so managed the Bedtime practice this morning, with difficulty. I have a new respect for people who have to live with such things every day! Better for practicing ,however clumsy it seemed at the time

Poisonwood · 07/02/2025 18:04

Did the exhausting 4 minute Tabata practice, then really nice 45 min CORE practice and have added that one to my favourites. The old me seriously wouldn’t recognise Yoga Me 🤣.
I did yesterday’s bedtime practice with the screen off (and by firelight, very relaxing), and I did today’s with the screen off too. Much prefer it.

OP posts:
Yogachick · 07/02/2025 18:48

Firelight yoga sounds amazing @Poisonwood !
tabata was not enjoyable as a practice so added 20 min Awesome yoga practice which had all the goodies in plus gorilla, lovely on the hands

Jumbojem · 07/02/2025 21:06

The Tabata one reminded me of why I don't go to in person exercise classes. I just can't move in a coordinated way at pace to instruction. Was getting it all wrong and ended up cycling between down dog, high plank and updog. I followed it up with tomorrow's yogalates as I will be out all day.
@Fibrous I find yoga with kassndra good for less chat, I didn't think SB was too bad though. YWA is the worst for chat. Charlie Follows is also low on chat from what I remember, she's also English which makes a change as so many of them are American.
As for lives, I think Kassandra might do the odd live and I think there are some recordings of her "lives" so to speak on YouTube. Although not sure how that would be different to just a regular recorded one?

Poisonwood · 07/02/2025 21:22

@Jumbojem I definitely didn’t feel my positioning was good in Tabata, though the last time I tried it actively hurt and I had to give up almost immediately…so there is improvement but i prefer other fit tests.
@Yogachick I love how different we all are, and our differing body needs, how yoga caters to all…gorilla is maybe my least liked asana, either that or boat anyways 😂

OP posts:
Fibrous · 07/02/2025 22:59

Cool, thanks for the tips @Jumbojem ! I don’t find any of them too chatty, I quite like the chat. And the whimsy from Adrienne.

this eve I did some yin with Sarah Beth and Tim after the gym. I could really feel some knots in my right hip. Doing park run in the morning so might need to explore some more hip stuff tomorrow.

good effort on getting a practice in with monitor @Yogachick . Hope the monitor gives the results you want.

I also yoga by firelight @Poisonwood - it’s so relaxing. The only problem is all our animals (two dogs, two cats) also want to get involved in the heat and they take every opportunity to stretch out on the yoga mat underneath me. So I end up contorting around them. Not ideal.

Fibrous · 08/02/2025 18:48

I did a YWA 45min full body stretch. Needed it after parkrun this morning, I usually run with my dogs and they stop every five meters for a sniff or a pee so running continuously is quite hard. Should really get out on my own more but they get so excited when I put my running stuff on I feel guilty leaving them behind.
